Addendum to my earlier comment : As per the copy of "The first Photography Book" by Peter Smith ISBN 0-85112-846-7 (for budding photographers), which I have since the 90s, ISO is expanded as "International Standardization Organization; used instead of ASA or DIN to indicate film speeds." DIN is Deutsches Institut für Normung a German associaion.

Wow..am impressed .Actually, you have a point but ISO is International Organisation For standardization and the current standard is ISO 5800:2001 but its also called as "EYSO " based on ISOS .Just like the definition for Camera, in English the meaning is its a photographic device but in Latin its Dark Chamber

I am sorry Sir, I am unable to find ISOS and EYSO also.. acronyms are uttered/pronounced like words at the go. I have seen Tony Northrup saying/uttering it as a word, something like PETA, ISRO, TRAI,NASA..yet they are acronyms comprising the first alphabet of every word in an organization's name. Jared Polin utters it separately as I S O. I guess its all about a speaker's convenience in uttering certain nomenclature or acronyms.

Dear Sir. Thanks for the video. When I started to learn photography I was told that ISO is an acronym (not a word) for 'International Organization for Standardization', much like the ASA (American Standards Association). Some of the earlier films came with the ASA certification. Later ISO certification was widely adopted by film/camera manufacturers to indicate the film speed/sensitivity. But I wasn't aware of ISO's connection with the Greek word ἶσος (isos), hence I searched for it online. The Greek word means "equal". The other mildly similar word is 'Isis' which is the name of a Goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology. If the etymology of ISO for film speed and modern camera settings is attributed to the Greek term and if that is part of the history of photographic nomenclature then I sorely missed to know about it and kindly excuse my ignorance. I also request you to throw light on the Greek connection, coz I am unable to find any links to articles that narrate the ISO / ἶσος connection. Thanks.
