Given that heights come up quickly when climbing from Manali to Leh it is best to spend a day in Jispa/Kelyong area. In 2 days time you guys were going up from 6500 feet to 19000 plus feet...I mean that is insane and outright threat to life. What happens in AMS is O2 is less and so brain starts behaving erratic since there is less O2 going into the body. Drinking lots of water is fine but there is no substitute for climbing 3 or at the most 4000 feet and staying a day...then moving up again. For all those reading and following Prashant's blog please note he has way higher experience than anyone accompanying him. Anyone who is along with him must know irrespective of how your body is, how strong you might feel...in the absence of good O2 going into the body better start climbing down. After a while there could be permanent damage or what is called cerebral oedema. Please be a better judge of how to approach mountains (or deep sea). Cannot challenge nature especially when it starts giving signals early on. The symptoms of AMS (at least headache) would have started to come between Darcha and Sarchu. By the time you got to Hanle it was severe. Our doctor at Hanle would have said the same - go down. Naturally going to Umling La from there on...would have been well...sad. Glad both of you are back and down... Everyone - please climb up slowly, take your time and do not think you can do it just because someone else is doing it.

Dear Prashant, Keep garlic cloves in your mouth and slowly suck the juices.. garlic helps the blood vessels to get enlarge so they can carry more oxygen to the vital organs of your body. Due to extreme cold temperatures the blood gets condensed and rarified air aggrivates the acuteness of oxygen level in the blood. Water also helps but drinking cold water will cause hypothermia and hot water will dehydrate the blood vessels. So sipping water is good but won't increase the oxygen level in the blood quickly. Garlic is the best solution and is being used since ancient times. Btw I have stopped travelling to J&K, Ladakh it has become a lawless place. I prefer to travel to South these days. People are educated there and traveling is fun not pain. For Mountain life nothing can beat Himachal. People, places and weather all mind blowing. My retirement plan is to build a small cottage in Pangi Valley...And spend rest of days of my life there. Live Long N Prosper 🖖

Can i take mine maruti Spresso car from pang intersection point via tsokar when traveling from manali ? Will this car can succeed to umlingla pass? I will be traveling from mumbai along with mine wife. I have travelled to leh twice & had stayed in tsomoriro home stay( but at midnight i moved to army tent ) along with mine wife & 9 year daughter in 2013 in minus 13 degree in march . That time i had hired car from leh . But this time its a self drive from mumbai. In this june i already covered mumbai to vaishno devi self Drive with my wife , total drive was 5167 km to & fro . In may i travelled to kaza from Chandigarh via Peo - nako - kaza - hatu peak -komic - kibber- hikkim through local bus. Awaiting to hear from you about the above . Regards
