A DLC or something where you get to play as the aliens would be cool. Maybe you have to investigate the planet a little first to determine how its society works, and you can pick from a number of goals like subjugation, or annihilation, similar to the base game's factions.

A semi cheesy way to get exotics is to allow the Servants to work their story line. As you can imagine that comes with a price tag to keep them in check. Once the Servants get far enough they can get an org that will allow them to build the Alien Administration which lets them build something to hand their control points off to the Hydra directly so that the Hydra can control human countris/armies. BUT as long as your fixer can assault the Alien Administration before it is fully built you can collect exotics. As you might imagine once you're done collecting exotics this way you need to lean HARD on the Servants and purge all Hydra from Earth.

Because of their slow speed and maneuverability, assault carriers and motherships are very vulnerable to massed railgun fire. The only issue is saturating them with enough to overwhelm their very good PD. Avoid the large 4 slot railgun batteries and stick to the 1 or 2 slot ones. 2 battleships with nothing but 1 slot/2 slot rail guns set to total offense(so they don't use their railguns to try and shoot down incoming missile or kinetic rounds) and another 2 monitor ships with 4 single slot lasers/point defense set to total defense are good enough to take out a single mothership/assault carrier as long as you keep all 4 ships very close during battle so the monitors can protect everyone. Plasma batteries are great end game weapons because they can't be deflected or blocked and each shot has a high speed so only very small agile ships are able to dodge and even then only at very long range. The problem with plasma batteries is that they can't do a lot of damage against more heavily armored ships like battleships, motherships and assault carriers. In time they can take them down, but it's going to be a back and forth slugging match. Your biggest issue is that your delta V is far too low to force them into a fight. Unless the aliens think they have clear superiority in combat strength they can just maneuver away when you try to engage them. They run you out of fuel and just a few hours later will be landing troops on earth while your ships are still trying to make their way back to refuel.

Pravus, another thing: When Alien armies land, you have 30 days to use a assault alien asset mission, which if successful, will prevent the alien armies from totatily landing entirely meaning you don't have to use armies or nukes, but its very hard to land, so if you want to try this, use a councilor with high command Also, if Aliens are now building troup carriers, getting Trans-Interface Warfare might be a good top priority as it will grant you orbital defense from bombardment, but will also prevent aliens from landing in your nations if you build enough.
@andrewyoung85502 жыл бұрын
25 command councilor with 256 ops points dumped into it will barely get you to 20-30% success. Better to just use your armies. I’ve been holding the line with 6 US armies and 5 Eurasian armies (5.8 and 5.1) respectively.
@shadowwarrior10032 жыл бұрын

The phased array lasers by themselves are mediocre, but if you research visible lasers too then you can get green phasers which are great. If you go beyond that to UV lasers, you can get UV phasers which are a little better than green phasers at the cost of being unable to bombard through an atmosphere. Though honestly I never use bombard, if I want to bust an alien mine, I just landed marines.
@lordhelmchen31542 жыл бұрын
Bombarding can be useful to help your troops on Earth or target a rampaging Megafauna, though you need to be pretty far down the tech tree and have a sizeable fleet to actually do helpful damage. When I only had a small fleet of a few Green Arc Laser ships one month-long bombardment run did like 5% damage to an Alien army so not really worth it (just nuke the Ayys if your armies can't handle them). Late game however with lots of Coilguns and a large fleet I could decimate a Megafauna in a matter of days and didn't need to try to send my troops into that unallied country.

This lesson is a perfect example of hubris, also, I've never been so on the fence about buying a game as i have been with this one, in regards if Pravus's opinion.
@lordhelmchen31542 жыл бұрын
I bought it and absolutely love it, almost finished my first Resistance playthrough! :D What Pravus said here about the game dragging on in my opinion is only happening in that specific phase he is in in this video, around the mid 2030s, when you have secured your Earth powerbase and first space mining operations but are still trying to stay below the Mission Control limit to not trigger open war with the Aliens. After their first assault however things start to ramp up again and the game moves on from Geopolitics strategy game to 4X space warfare/strategy game. :D When you decide it is time to show the Aliens whose solar system they walked into and start building up your fleets, trying out different ship designs and expanding your space colonization further outwards, constantly moving fleets around to defend against or attack the Aliens you always have a ton of things to do, it's in my opinion more stressful than the early-to-mid-game. And the good thing is all the space action is actually "real-time" and not depending on the "once-per-month" assignments on Earth so you don't just wait until 30 days have passed. The game is not perfectly balanced yet and there are some quite important quality of life features missing (mainly regarding strategic and in-combat fleet managment) that make it kind of annoying from time to time but the devs know of these problems and they tend to get fixed slow but steady with every new patch that is released. So I can definitely recommend it! :)
@Marioand64Luigi2 жыл бұрын
I will say even as someone who enjoys the game quite a bit, Pravus is absolutely correct in that the 2030's point of the game he is at things can get quite... slow. Mostly because you're trying to avoid pissing off the aliens while building up your tech and infrastructure, and at this point you're full on control points, so not much to do there either. After this it definitely ramps up but yeah, may be worth keeping an eye on and waiting for some content patches in a few months.

Something I've often thought when watching Terra Invicta, since it's promo copies went out to content creators even, is that I think the Long War devs got too hyped up about their reputation as creators of the "long" XCOM experience. They got it in their heads that they were gonna make the "BIG" strategy game, the one you spend 100 hours on a single run or something like that, and didn't realize what that can do to pacing. I'm not saying they're bad, just inexperienced and overly excitable. They have a great chassis and concept though, which I hope to see refined over time into more interesting games.

Orion engines aren't good. Currently Daedalus engines are the best, followed by neutron flux torch (this is a pretty widely held consensus). Advanced antimatter engines are also ok. Everything else (in the late game) is a trap (I'm looking at you protium converter torch and firefly torch) or a expensive meme (pion torch). There is a really nice spread sheet online that can calculates the waste heat (and required heat sink mass) for all the drives along with giving their DV and thrust; it is super helpful. I'd work your way to neutron flux torch or Daedalus. Nice series Pravus!

I get your feeling that the game goes nowhere. I am currently in 2057 and have earth under control but cleaning up the aliens is hard. You need to win this game on a strategic level and the more mistakes you make early the harder it gets. Regarding the Troop Carriers: That are unbelievable sturdy ships.. shooting them down is a real hard task and takes a fleet of several thousand combat power. A single mother ship I find less threatening than 3 carriers surrounded by a small defensive fleet.

So EU and the US both have super armies? I recommend once you’ve dealt with the THREE carrier situation that you pick 1 superstate to have the next age army and disband the other superstate army and Russian army. Disbanding the army will give you back points to use so you can jack up science from your state. You aren’t worried about human factions attacking you at this point unless you lean really hard on world conquest. So your new focus is on making a space fleet and building the space economy while building economy and science on earth. Z pinch techs are where it’s at for engines. Good job researching dimonoids earlier for adamantene armor. Good job going for phaser arrays. Do you have rail/coil guns yet? I think you got green phasers those are great to get your exotics.; mount it on the nose. Feel free to build PD boats as long as you keep formation tight so they can do their job.

I personally really, really like coil cannons. They hit a lot harder than plasma and very quickly overwhelm PD. Plasma can't be targeted by PD but this can actually be negative, because it means all the alien lasers set to guardian fire at you instead of your barrage of steel slugs. Plus you can call your big coil battleships MAC daddies. I wouldn't mix plasma and coils though, because you need to saturate PD.

@lordhelmchen31542 жыл бұрын
Early to mid game it's quite effective (in fact the earliest way you can destroy Alien ships is probably with missile spam), later on I'd say it's a bit suboptimal (Coilguns, Plasma and Phasers are more reliable) because you need a ton of missiles to get through enemy point defense. Those Point Defense lasers on Motherships and heavier battleships (and space stations) are no joke and will swat down dozens of missiles at once like it was nothing. I heard using a mix of normal multiple-missiles-per-salvo systems together with a few nuclear torpedos that hide inbetween the weaker but numerous normal missiles works but I haven't tried it out yet.
@chrishutchins93842 жыл бұрын
@@lordhelmchen3154 Yeah, I was thinking a combo system that doesn't just rely on missles. I don't know enough about the game to know if that's even possible. In my head it makes a lot of sense to make the enemy have to swat down a bunch of ships, potentially wasting shots due to firing more than what is necessary to destroy an individual ship. But! You have to be able attrition down the enemy before they shoot all your stuff down. But this is assuming the aliens have enough firepower to take down a battleship with ease. Also having enough time to actually build ships is another factor.

It is definitely a really long game. If you make it to the early 2040s and are super fast I can see you easily spending around 50 hours. I'm not complaining though I really enjoy the depth and breadth of the game and I don't think you can have that while being fast paced.
