PRAWNING - ACTION & TIPS (Southern Moreton Bay)

G'day everyone, welcome back to another video!
In this episode, I join Kane Barclay again and we head to Southern Moreton Bay to do some prawning at the 'Powerlines', before I head home and give you some tips on how to catch prawns for yourself in the cast net.

A few places which prawning can be done around South East Queensland is the Logan River, Powerlines, Redland Bay Channel, the Saltworks at Macleay Island, Nudgee, the Brisbane River, and Pine River.

Hey Will, I have been using a smaller bottom pocket net for the past few years and had no problem with the technique with that. I got a 10ft top pocket for christmas and haven't got the technique down of throwing it yet. Do you have any videos on youtube that could show me how to throwing this or any tips? Thanks, Jack

G'day Jack, thanks for the comment mate! I am not an expert at cast netting myself, I do the same as you and every time I get a new net I have to learn how to throw it 😂 but my suggestion would be to search KZbin for some different techniques and try them out to see which one works best for you. I'd start with Sammy Hitzke's video on how to throw a cast net as he teaches a couple of different ways and they have worked for me! 😁👍 I just saw you post some videos yourself, I will watch some later tonight! 🎣 Tight lines Jack

Thanks heaps mate I appreciate it! Was so fun and they are such a good feed 👌🦐 I actually have no idea sorry mate, it has been painted all the way around so I’m not even sure of the brand! I will try to find out for you but yeah it’s great for estuaries 👌 he even uses it for Jewwies and Snapper and stuff on the close in reefs and in the seaway! Cheers mate 🎣

Hey mate, thanks for the comment I really appreciate it! I actually have no idea sorry, I always just borrow my mate’s 😅 These are specifically made for prawning and are larger than the usual cast nets you’d use for baitfish, and also have a top pocket as the prawns shoot up to the top of the net, and it makes them a lot easier to tip into your bucket. There are a few guys here in SEQ that make specific prawning nets but most tackle shops sell them now as well! Sorry for the lack of info but I hope this helps! Cheers mate 🙌🎣

Yeah mate a few states don't allow cast nets, but they definitely make it easier to catch prawns 😅😁 I know in NSW they scoop them up in little nets, but that would take so long to put a feed together hey. You should definitely give it a try if you're ever up this way! 🎣😁

@@scale2tail Yes mate over late Summer is the best time! This session was actually at the mouth of the Logan River at the powerlines, jusssssst north of the Gold Coast (we left from the Gold Coast). Would be awesome to see you out there 👌

Hey Paul good to hear from you mate, have you had any luck on the lures in saltwater since we last talked? 🎣 And the way I throw these big prawning nets is very simple, I'll try to find a video of how to do it as it's hard to explain but there are only a couple of steps. What size net do you have mate ?
