Moreton Bay Prawn Season Begins: In search of prawns.
In the Moreton Bay region, prawn season begins around early December and continues into April, growing bigger as the season progresses.
Being mid-December, this was our first chance to get out and look for some bay prawns. At this stage, they should be of a small edible size, making them a tasty Christmas lunch.
So, join us as we use the sounder to locate a bit of action and come home with a bucket load of early season prawns.

Great video fellas.. loved the “love a good spread” although I enjoy both Promite and Vegemite. 😂😂 Getting a top pocket net soon for the season.. but most likely a bcf not a $300 because I have never cast net before ever so will be a bit of practice I’d say.

Thanks for watching. A top pocket net is the way to go. One from BCF will be fine. That's where i got my 1st ones. When you get into it you can up grade to a handmade one from one of the local guys. Finding the right throwing style is the bigger challenge. I've thrown a few different ways and not all would give me that good circle. You'll have to do the same until you find the one you're comfortable with. Good luck hey

$300 net is not good i only use $100 net in creeks use the $300 net out in the bay where you are sure about the bottom if it does happen try to pull some of the sides of the net up to get to the chain to try save some damage, i love prawning myself but to damage a costly net shits my day as i know i up for hrs of fixing it haha

Yes you are correct there. I use the old one in the creeks and the new one in the bay. Ive had to repair dome good rips and holes and im getting ok at it. Thanks for watching and commenting

which way did you go from the boat ramp? i have been getting a few near the old bridge but not very many at a time.

Hey Ryfly. We went up river from the boat ramp to one of the bends. If you go up that way these days im sure youll see boats casting where you also need to be casting. Make sure its on a tide change. I prefer low. Thanks for watching and asking.

@@AdventurePrimal cheers. I wrote my comment before your nets landed on trees 😂. First time prawning for me so would you recommend a 10 or 12ft net ? How far past the bridge was this too ? Cheers.

Hmm net size would depend on your size and strength. 10ft is easier to learn with but youll want a 12ft in the end. Yeah a few bends up from the bridge.

How well does the tarp work to keep the deck clean 😂

It does a job enough job. It can get very muddy at times. I use it more to stop the water getting into my storage hatch which is there. Everything in there gets soaked if I dont hae it down.
