I keep on getting 191 on my ELS. I wish they showed us the correct answers after we took our test so we can learn from our mistakes.

This was an amazing video and I will watch it again tomorrow! I have struggled with my praxis writing for awhile. I technically passed for my state standard, but not by my schools standard. I’m usually off by 1-5 points. Your pointers are the edge I need! Thank you so so much! I wish I would have known about you sooner. I will certainly direct my classmates to this resource!!

Do you have any videos explaining how to quickly revise the sentence written in the passages? I have struggled with this section. I am taking way to much time trying to read and re-read the passage.

We have a grammar webinar, and it covers that. Here is the link to the webinar. If you fill out the form on this page, you'll also get a handout. mailchi.mp/navaed.com/free-praxis-core-grammar-5723-webinar-signup

I love your videos and I hope to be able to pass my FTCE English portion soon! I have two questions for you! For example, when you are talking about “I went to the Thomas Building yesterday” is the word “Building” capitalized or not? I struggled with this question. I thought “Thomas and Building” was capitalized considering it is a name. Also, another example! “We will eat lunch after Spanish class” Is Spanish capitalized? I know that when you are talking about an “English Class” English is capitalized but when your talking about a history class, history is not capitalized (or so I’ve been told). Thanks so much!
@KathleenJasperEdD3 жыл бұрын
GREAT questions, and thank you for watching. Yes, Thomas Building is capitalized because it is a proper noun in this instance. The same goes for Spanish class and English class. Names of languages are always capitalized. BUT be careful. Regular classes like math class, science class, language arts class, social science class are not capitalized. English and Spanish are capitalized because they are names of languages and are always capitalized. Similarly, fall, spring, winter, and summer are NOT capitalized unless they are attached to a proper noun. For example, The Fall Festival is capitalized because it is a proper noun. But when I say, "I graduate this spring," spring is not capitalized because it is just a season in this example. Hope that helps. Capitalization is tricky. Thanks for watching!

If a sentence starts with a subordinating conjunction does that mean it is automatically a dependent clause?
@KathleenJasperEdD4 жыл бұрын
Yes, subordinating clauses are dependent clauses. See the examples below. Thanks for watching! Although she was skilled at public speaking, Even though she was tired, While she waited for the bus, Notice above that it is a dependent clause and it needs the reset of the sentence to be complete. The subordinating conjunction actually turns an independent clause into a dependent clause. She waited for the bus. That is a sentence. However, if I put "while" in front, it turns it into a dependent clause.

Can you please help me with this sentence? All government representatives must keep in contact with his or her constituents. I said "correct" because government is ONE government --- but it was marked wrong because of representatives ---- now I'm all sorts of confused!!
@KathleenJasperEdD4 жыл бұрын
Laura Phegley the “representatives” are plural. So you would need to change “his or her” to “their.” This is called pronoun antecedent agreement.
@hockeyboy16504 жыл бұрын
@@KathleenJasperEdD but I thought you said 1 government, ignore (cross out) representatives?
@KathleenJasperEdD4 жыл бұрын
Laura Phegley in this case the subject is plural. Government representatives is plural. If you’re talking about the example in the video, in that case the subject is singular: The board of directors is singular because the subject is “the board.” “Of representatives” is the prepositional phrase. There is no prepositional phrase in “the government representatives.” It is just many representatives.
