What I have learned is to not take the Bible and see how it is about me, but how it is about God. This is God's story and God is trying to reveal how big He is to mankind. If we can get the focus off ourselves and magnify God then we can relate like David of how big and awesome our God is and greatly to be praised!

yess!! one of my favorite things to highlight or underline is whenever a characteristic/descriptor/etc of God shows up. it's really changed how i approach my reading

I just bought a new Bible, and I was going to use it just for reading because it's a personal size that fits nicely in my huge purse. I have a study marking system I have been using since 2002, and I can't go back into my other Bibles and highlight over entire verses. But, you just gave me the idea of using this new baby by doing just that! I admit that it will be a bit of a struggle for me to only highlight verses because I am so used to chasing rabbits whenever I see certain names of people or places, etc. And, I'm a student of eschatology, so I'm used to finding end times nuggets and chasing those down too. It will take a great deal of discipline for me, which is a good thing, to just read and highlight according to a specific topic. I'm going to give it a try though. Wish me luck!

Look at other translations because in Genesis 48 9 where you see pray in the kjv the word actually means please it doesn't actually mean prayer I would not recommend kjv to anyone new to bible study unless they have a good commentary or a good dynamic equivalent translation to compare to.

NASB is a good solid substitute or the New King James version.
