King George V once told his son David, later Edward VIII, "Don't stand around drinking cocktails like a wet weekend!" He also said, "I hope that Bertie can be king. I don't want Lillabet to miss her chance to be queen!" And he said about David, "When I am gone the boy will ruin himself in twelve months". He was right about that!

Beautiful pictorial and script. It was especially meaningful to hear nicknames family members gave to one another like "Grandpa England". It demonstrates the emotional side of The Royal Family. Sometimes we forget they are just humans living a demanding world of service and self-sacrifice (when they hold their role in esteem as their subjects do).

A very fitting tribute. My grandmother liked T. M. King Edward VII & Queen Alexandra, but T. M. King George V & Queen Mary were the reigning monarchs when she married my grandfather 02 March 1923, a wee bit before T. M. King George VI & Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. She loved the H. M. Queen Elizabeth II's great grandparents, grandparents and parents. Both of my grandparents did as did my mum's parents, but they felt betrayed by the former King Edward VIII, who had no respect for himself, his parents, siblings and nation when he selfishly abdicated to marry the Duchess of Windsor. My great grandparents & 3 of my 4 grandparents were born during H. M. Queen Victoria's reign. Papa's mum was born when H. M. King Edward VII was on the throne barely 2 weeks. So far H. M. King Charles III & Queen Camilla are doing a splendid job, although my heart us still deeply mourning H. M. Queen Elizabeth II. May She Rest In Peace! God Save The King!

Thank you for your lovely comments. I know a lot of people think the Edward and Wallis relationship was this big love story. But because of his decesion and behaviour , the crown went to King George VI and it clearly stressed his life out to an early death. He knew Waliis could never be Queen and just like Harry actually, I think he wanted out, but on his terms and if you want out, then you can't expect to retain all the trappings of being a member of the Royal family. When it was pointed out, in detail, to Princess Margaret that if she wanted to leave to have a relationship with one of her love interests, then she would have to give up so much. When she realised that she could not leave the instituation and keep all the graces that went with it, she chose to stay, she didn't even have to think about it. At the end of the day I am glad Edward abdicated because Queen Elizabeth IIs father was a surperb King. Even in abdication Edward and Wallis behaviour was deplorable proving that they were not fit for the job.
