Please, remember in your prayers Ashley, who is fallen asleep at 24 y.o. on April 19, 2018, and left behind son Ralph and daughter Isabella. I'm not sure if Ashley was an Orthodox, but there is a very good chance that the children are, since the father is a Greek man and from the faithful family. Foristo poli ✝

With all of the murders happening, I feel a need to pray for those who have been murdered. I believe as Jesus said, "With God all things are possible." So, I have a deep empathy for the innocents who have been murdered. I need to pray for them. This will help.

Where in the Bible does it say go to Church on Sunday?
@user-lv4ov5rp6d4 жыл бұрын
@@StNicholasTarpon One of the ten commandments is “remember to keep holy the sabbath day. Six days you may labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord, your God. No work may be done then…in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy” (Exodus 20:8-10).

What about Decree 18 from the 1672 Synod of Jerusalem which was signed by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem? Is it correct to believe in purification of souls after death and that the prayers of the living can be of benefit to the souls of the dead? If not, can you explain what was meant by Decree 18 in this Synod to me?
@LoveLove-jk9kz4 жыл бұрын
Synod of Jerusalem 1672 Degree 18 We believe that the souls of those that have fallen asleep are either at rest or in torment, according to what each has done; - for when they are separated from their bodies, they depart immediately either to joy, or to sorrow and lamentation; though confessedly neither their enjoyment nor condemnation are complete. For after the common resurrection, when the soul shall be united with the body, with which it had behaved itself well or ill, each shall receive the completion of either enjoyment or of condemnation. And the souls of those involved in mortal sins, who have not departed in despair but while still living in the body, though without bringing forth any fruits of repentance, have repented - by pouring forth tears, by kneeling while watching in prayers, by afflicting themselves, by relieving the poor, and finally by showing forth by their works their love towards God and their neighbor, and which the Catholic Church [i.e., the Orthodox Church] has from the beginning rightly called satisfaction - [their souls] depart into Hades, and there endure the punishment due to the sins they have committed. But they are aware of their future release from there, and are delivered by the Supreme Goodness, through the prayers of the Priests, and the good works which the relatives of each do for their Departed; especially the unbloody Sacrifice benefiting the most; which each offers particularly for his relatives that have fallen asleep, and which the Catholic and Apostolic Church offers daily for all alike. Of course, it is understood that we do not know the time of their release. We know and believe that there is deliverance for such from their direful condition, and that before the common resurrection and judgment, but when we know not.

My dear sibling in Christ. I'm shaking my head at my own self for my foolishness. When I read your second post, the declaration 18, I took it for someone's answer to your first post asking for clarification. I said to myself yup, that's a pretty good answer. 😅 I figured out my goof and am left with the question: what is left unanswered for you? Lord Jesus Christ Son and Word Have mercy on us sinners

The priest is confusing - he says God knows what we need, but, then encourages us to remind Him to tend to them? Also, the father says we cannot change God's mind, yet, does Scripture not have examples when God did exactly that - change his mind?
@user-lv4ov5rp6d4 жыл бұрын
"...does Scripture not have examples when God did exactly that - change his mind?" God never changes His mind as humans do. Where did you find that verse?

I hope this reach you even your comment is 3 years ago. God knows our need but we must tell and ask him from it. Why? because he wants a relationship with us. God doesnt change his character, but when you pray- you change.

It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment Hebrews 9:27. We all have to do business with Jesus directly to enforce Jesus victory on Calvary. The thief next to Jesus called directly on Jesus and received his free gift of forgiveness and salvation. Saint Paul called directly to Jesus and receive his free gift of salvation and forgiveness, Acts 9:1-21 .Saint Stephen called on Jesus directly and received his free gift of forgiveness and salvation.acts 7:57. Sean Rath why is it you ignore St Paul’s words to pray for one another?
@seanrathmakedisciples15084 жыл бұрын
StNicholasTarpon you’re right it’s so important to pray for one another. The early believers broke bread daily from house to house and devoted themselves the apostles doctrines, fellowship, Breaking bread and prayer. It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment. All that matters is that we receive our free gift of forgiveness and salvation and eternal life. We receive our free gift by calling on on Jesus directly as did the thief next to Jesus Luke 23:34-44, Saint Paul in Acts 9:1-21 or Saint Stephen in Acts 7:57. Jesus dealt with the sin of the world when Jesus died on Calvary and we have all to appropriate this sacrifice by calling on Jesus directly. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus will given the free gift of eternal life and Paradise Romans 10:9-13 Ephesians 2::8-10 Call on Jesus right now. Baptism always followed immediately after believing and repentance acts 2:38-46

What heresy, praying for the dead. This is so unbiblical. If they say the church fathers taught this, it's one more reason to stay away from this dead religion. Why pray for those who are true Christians and passed away and are present with the Lord?? Those who are not Christian and passed away are waiting for the great white throne judgment. Run run, run the direction from this teaching.

@@costa328 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living (Mark 12:27 / Matthew 22:32 / Luke 20:38). Remember the second commandment synthesized by Jesus from the 10 Commandments ? "Love your neighbor as yourself". Who is the neighbor? Relatives, friends, strangers, so the living and guess who else? The dead! How so? For example if your parents die they don't stop being your neighbor -> Commandment nr. 5: Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12) Honoring them continues after they die. This means the dead are still your neighbor. Still unconvinced? Then look at nr.9 (you can be dishonest regarding a dead neighbor) and nr.10 (coveting for something that was in the possession of a neighbor that died and must be passed on according to the law or his wish / or coveting while he was alive and now that he is dead suddenly transforms coveting into something ok) ,so you can clearly see they apply for the dead also. Praying for the dead is ok and a clear act of love since God asks of us to love the neighbor as our own selves. There you have it. Accept it or not,it's up to you.
