@@amykpop1 - Tell that to Erdogan who stole the Hagia Sophia Church from the Greek Orthodox Church of St Andrew to turn it into a mosque, who would not allow them to expand their Churches and schools, who treat them as dhimmies. Patriarch Bartholomew, the Apostolic successor to the chair of St Andrew (the brother of St Peter), admits this, where they as Byzantine Christians are treated as 2nd class citizens - despite the fact that they (as Greeks) were the original ethnic people of Byzantium.

No, the Pope is considered the first among equal... but we all know that Jesus wanted to give a special rol to Peter, the Pope's successor.... you just need to open the Gospel and see it. Orthodox churches are having discussions with Rome on how his primacy could affect the government of their churches if they come in unity with Peter.

The Catholic "Bishop" contradicts and refuses to obey the Bible.... "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;" (1 Timothy 3:2) And that is only the tip of the lying iceberg that is the false church of catholicism/orthodoxixm.

+your friend Yawn! Boring! Uninformed! Bigoted! Yaaaaawn! Sadly, what you have written above says everything about your brand of 'Christianity' and to what extend you have been transformed by it. Let me tell you about how the Orthodox faith, taught to the Apostles by Christ himself, and delivered to the church fathers once and for all, has transformed millions of Orthodox Christians for almost 2000 years. Literally millions of Orthodox Christians, from Eastern Europe to China in the East and from Russia in the north to Ethiopia in south have suffered and died for Christ over the past 2000 years - first during the Roman persecution of the Early Church, followed by the invading and conquering Muslims, then again under the Communists and most recently the slaughter of thousands in the Middle East under Isis. I do not recall any event in history where such great numbers of Satanists willingly laid down their lives for Satan. In fact our Lord and Saviour assured us, that if we love Him and follow Him, that we will be persecuted and killed for our faith. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and invite you to tell us about the persecution you have experienced due to your superior faith in Christ. Tell us how willing you are to die for Jesus, singing His praises and glorifying him....while your are be8ng crucified, or burnt or beheaded. Unfortunately their is no evidence of your dedication to our Lord in your loveless post above. It reminds me of 1 Corinthians 13:1 - If I.....have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. I pray that you find the Truth and that you will come home to the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church founded by the Holy Spirit on the very first Pentecost almost 2000 years ago. @@diliaruiz4649 Insisting upon the exclusivity of the Church of Christ is not hate. If I, as an Orthodox Christian, reject Catholic inventions after the Great Schism, such as purgatory, indulgences, papal infallibility, ..., then this very rejection is based upon the love for Truth and the resulting necessity to condemn false teachings, as they can jeopardize one's salvation. As a result, there can be no unity between Orthodox and Catholics, insofar the Catholics don't reject these inventions. Two groups that say different things about Christ, cannot both belong to His Body. So, it's a dreadful thing to see people outside his Body. Therefore, not only is it not hate to state that only one Church effectively is the Church of Christ, which I believe to be the Orthodox Church, but it is a crime immeasurably bigger than hate to not state the truth to those who do not belong to the Church, which is that they don't belong to the Church. It's love that makes us say that, not hate. So please, consider the possibility that the Catholic Church, as it has broken away from the Church of Christ in 1054, is not the Church of Christ. At least consider the possibility that Orthodoxy is the Church of Christ, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.

@pravolub85 жыл бұрын
Actually "Ecumenical" does mean universal. Pope Gregory the Great railed against the Constantinople Patriarchate for adopting that title. He then expounded the Orthodox teaching. As funny as it sounds, Pope Gregory wasn't a "Papist". The usual word, nowadays, used for universal is Catholic, though that is NOT what is means. In Greek, Catholic means "whole and complete, lacking nothing", not universal.
@karenbartlett13075 жыл бұрын
@@pravolub8 Actually. "ecumenical" originally meant "belonging to the universal Church" according to the dictionary on google, from the Greek word "oecumene" meaning "the inhabited earth", but it came to mean in modern times "unity of all Christian faiths". And the universal Church in the time of St. Gregory was the Orthodox Church, the original Church and the only Church. The Great Schism occurred in 1054 AD (while Gregory lived in the 500's AD) such that St. Gregory would have been Orthodox, not Roman Catholic, although of course a Roman. I don't wonder that St. Gregory objected to the Patriarch of Constantinople adopting the title "ecumenical" although I'm sure the Patriarch at that time used it because Constantinople was the seat of the Roman Empire then. Nowadays, imo, the Patriarch uses the term to try to pass himself off as the head of the Orthodox Church, but this is impossible, as the Head of the Orthodox Church is Christ.

He's not like Pope, Orthodoxy isn't reletated with Papacy or similar authorities. Only Jesus Christ should be the head of the church and should have no representatives like the Pope. The Ecumanical Patriarch is just the Archbishop of Constantinople and the First in honor. Orthodoxy is purely regional, because each nation is allowed and has every right to worship God, read the gospel and have the Mass in his own native language.

The "Jesus cult?" seriously? Christianity was born in Jerusalem, and spread rapidly outward into Egypt, Africa and the West (Joseph of Arimathea and his band were in Britain by 37 AD). The Gospel of salvation in Christ, Son of God and God the Son, and the completion of the Old Covenant, touched hearts--and satisfied rational minds in search of the Truth. We do not appear to be the inattentive ones.

Bartholomew is not a pope, Bartholomew is not second to the pope of the roman catholic church, the empire was ruled from Constantinople (stop calling it istanbul when referring to the historical capital), Istanbul was not formerly referred to as Constantinople but rather Constantinople is currently being called Istanbul by it's conquerors. Also, Christianity began at the moment of creation, all creation has always worshipped and glorified Christ. Even as a historical moment, it did not simply begin in Turkey, it spread from Israel to various places, anatolia being one of those regions. All that being said, much respect for 60 minutes and this host for giving us a platform.

Did Jerusalem and Syria come before or after Rome? Clearly the Orthodox Church is the oldest. It's the ONE Church of Rome that broke off from the other four Churches. Ecumenical doesn't mean universal, it means 'relating to the house'.
@KaunasKid-vv5xi11 жыл бұрын
Although the Bishop of Rome became formally separated from the other four Ancient Patriarchates, around the 11th Century, the fact is that it's impossible to divide the Body of Christ; hence, the Bishopric of Rome is still very much part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, along with Antioch, Alexandria, Constantinople and Jerusalem, and to a lesser extent the Patriarchate of Moscow, and below that, the future Patriarchate of New York, representing the New World.
@devdasrai10 жыл бұрын
GasconyKid No, you are wrong. The Bible alone is enough to negate the Roman Catholic Church. Read below: "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you."-Deuteronomy 4:2 Because it is the Orthodox Church that has kept Holy Tradition the same before and after the schism, and remains unchanged, it is the True Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. But the Roman Catholic Church has changes quite a bit over the centuries, constantly adding to and taking away Holy Tradition, it does not keep the commandments and Traditions of the Lord, and therefore cannot be the True Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church.
@devdasrai9 жыл бұрын
***** That's not true. To say such a thing should be blaspheme! As Orthodox Christians, we may want the Muslims to stop persecuting us in the Middle East, but we know that reuniting our True and Holy Church with Rome and all of their lies and heresies, will do no such thing. Think about what happened when the Romans tries to reunite with Constantinople during the crusades. An utter mess. In the scriptures, God makes it clear that you cannot mix the Righteous with the unrighteous and expect good results. Read: Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals." (1 Corinthians 15:33) "He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm" (Proverbs 13:20) "I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false;" (Revelation 2:2) I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues;" (Revelation 18:4) So as you can see, God warns us. We must never unite with evil else it will corrupt our True and Orthodox doctrine. We must not make companions with the foolish Roman church, else we will suffer harm. We must not receive that false Church, else we will receive its sins and plagues. We must find it to be false. The Orthodox Christians all over the world have experienced persecutions for centuries yet have we never run to the evildoers for help, yet our faith has endure all and the Christian Orthodox faith is still thriving on this earth! And it will continue to do so! So this talk of a reunion will do nothing! It is through our faith that will keep the Muslims from winning! What will bring the world peace is the Coming of Christ. It is Christ will put an end to the persecution of His people. It is prayer and fasting that saves the Christian people, not the True Orthodox Church uniting with deceitful Roman church. If we keep that attitude, we will win all things! As the word says, Christ WILL conquer all evil. For if you truly believe that Christ has dominion over all, then that alone should tell you that the Muslims have nothing on us. They make look as if they are doing great harm now, but they have yet to experience the wrath of our Great God, who will put an end to all of their antichrist ways. Truly these are the last days.

Get your facts right. There is no "Pope" in Orthodox Christianity, There are multiple Patriarchs, and they are equal; Bartholemew has NO authority over and above any of the others, and in fact he has done some things which the other Patriarchs consider inappropriate and against the Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Patriarchs are not "second to the Pope"; they are different religions, with Orthodoxy being Christianity in its fullness, unchanged since the beginning.

Also, there is no single Orthodox autocrat. Each patriarchate works autonomously. A Patriarch is a Church leader for an area of responsibility. If I were the president of Turkey I would open Hagia Sophia as a church because it was built a church. Turkey can get more tourists because it is literally at the center of orthodox Christian countries, while Christians can be happy. That would make both sides quite happy and it’s the middle way.

My only disagreement, historically speaking, as an Antiochian Orthodox, is that Antioch would be far older than Constantinople and was where we were first called Christians. That is probably minutiae to most people though. I know not every Orthodox Christian is happy with what His Holiness Bartholomew has done, but what marks us as True Christians is prayer for our enemies and he certainly has my prayers. I would never want his job, and he has my respect, not because it is an earned thing, but because God demands it even if I don't agree at all with His Holiness Bartholomew's politics in the Ukraine which has contributed to so much suffering. Admonish me as you will, I do understand hierarchy and my own inadequacy.
