This is the best discussion on this topic I have ever heard..I am a protestant who has been brought into Catholicism through Monasticism. I have been looking for answers and no one seems to know how to explain things well. Example: I asked what is the reason for the rosarie and the answer I get is that it will strengthen your prayer life or we do it because it's a devotion to Mary. If a protestant does not understand or even agree with Marianology, this is of no use! Thank you so much for describing the reason for it!

I try to make it to church at least 4 times a week and say my rosaries in front of the altar. Don't wait to pray for people. Ask.them.if we can pray now and offer up a personalized pray right there and then. Our protestant brothers and sisters are very good at doing this

Catholics are often depicted as being closely linked with praying to Mary, the Most Blessed Virgin via the Rosary. However, we ought not to be mistaken to be just praying the Rosary, and neither ought we be understood to just pray the Rosary. As Catholics we have a wide variety of prayers, we have the Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist - the highest form of prayer and worship of the Most Holy Trinity; the Liturgy of Hours - seven sets of prayers set out for different parts of the whole day; there are other many beautiful prayers that we can make like the number of Litanies, etc. The reality is that many people do not explore the richness of Catholic prayers and often are bored by the thought of making the repetitive prayer called the Rosary. No, we have a wide choice of prayers. However, our Blessed Mother loves the Rosary and she recommends this prayer - a remembrance of the very major events in the life of the Lord and oin which she herself was closely linked all recorded in the Gospels. Praying the Rosary is most convenient as the beads are small (and some are beautifully crafted) and can be easily carried around in the pocket and recited any where. It is not imperative to recite the Rosary, but the Church generally suggests it to Catholics for the sake of convenience. Besides, in loving the Rosary we love Our Blessed Mother and she in turn brings us closer to her most glorious and blessed Son, Almighty God Himself. Praying the Catholic prayers is a great and beautiful experience. Too often, many are intimidated by just the very thought - largely because of a genuine lack of understanding - thinking that prayers are only for unpleasant circumstances in life. How very wrong that is. Once we get to know the Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist and the Liturgy of Hours, the other prayers are like a garland of roses linking these two main prayers of the Church. Padre Pio would pray the rosary many times a day, and some say he would pray up to 35 full 15-decade rosaries in one day. Now is 20decades because John Paul ll added the other 5. Is a coincidence because John Paul ll went to Padre Pio for confession. Also Padre Pio predicted that John Paul ll will become the next pope, makes me wonder if Pio ask John Paul to added the 5decades is missing, I’m just saying. John Paul 2 had no authority to change or add to what was given to us by the Most Immaculate Mother of God. How he thought the rosary was not perfect is beyond me. Keep to the 15 mysteries.

Jesus gave that authority to Peter the first pope and has been passed down ever since. The traditional assertion of Catholics in this matter is that each pope has the totality and supremacy of the power Christ left on earth for the building up of the kingdom of God. The pope is said to have the plenitudo potestatis, or fullness of power. And this is why we should pray for our pope always. Jesus instructed his disciples to "go and heal people in his name," as seen in the Bible, particularly in the Gospel of Mark 16:18, where it states, "They will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.". This signifies that the power to heal comes from Jesus and should be exercised through his name. All the power through pope is from Jesus and we should repent and respect the gift that was given to us. Also who do you think instituted that rosary prayer that was given from our mother to the church? It was Dominican theologian, Antonio Ghislieri, who became Pope St Pius V, structured the Rosary around 15 mysteries. On 7 October 1571, he instituted the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. And John Paul ll our pope continue enhancing that beautiful prayer. Pray all 4 mysteries. I pray all 4 2-3x a day plus the precious blood of Jesus Christ and the 24hrs of the Passion everyday. And don’t forget the Souls in Purgatory prayer.

God isn't giving out new revelations and scriptures to this day and He said absolutely nothing in the scriptures about any church having the authority to create their own man made extra-biblical teachings, traditions or practices especially ones that contradict what God has already said. Think about how foolish what you're saying is. If we followed your logic and advice, it would give the Catholic church permission to create whatever kind of teachings they wanted too and claim that it came from God with no way of being able to test it. Just so you understand that's not how it works, we test things in light of scripture. It was God who gave us the scriptures after inspiring the apostles to write His Word. The church of 390AD had absolutely no Catholic practices, just so you know, and trying to claim ownership of God's Word isn't a good thing to do in a Biblical discussion about doctrine.
