Makes sense. I would do the same. I do the same. It's crazy how many pilots do not take proper care of their aircraft.

Enjoyed the video. I also preheat my Commander with oil sump and have the bands around each cylinder. Same set up with cowl plugs and moving blankets to help keep the heat contained. I turn on my preheats the night before I fly with a Switcheon.

I been doing this for 20 years. I live in VT and it get cold. I never had an issue starting and never had an issue with corrosion. If you fly your plane on a regular basis you will never have an issue with engine corrosion. Thanks for the video and I like the fact your mom and friend will always fly with you. Its not weird. Love the new bird!

Def would not want to keep that plugged in. That warmer environment will retain more moisture and condense the moisture in the engine that is part of the combustion process

Wow, it would be so lovely if i had had a hangar. Until then its the ramp for my plane. Just wondering if i leave a small generator running and have it plugged up if that would make a difference🤔. Then again somone may snatch that generator.

lol. They might. 😂 Having a hangar is a plus. But some tie-downs have electric at Orange County Airport.

There have been some instances of extensive corrosion on engines that are preheated continuously. I think the conventional wisdom is to preheat just prior to flying.

I never had an issue but yes. Pre heating before you fly can be done without always having her plugged in. I fly often and never had an issue with corrosion with any of my planes. But I can see your point if you fly not so often. Corrosion will most definitely settle in if you don’t fly often or get a not so good oil sample back.

@@PilotFun101 You make a good point, the regularity of flying maybe the deciding factor with regards to corrosion. It wouldn’t surprise me if the planes that did have corrosion issues were plugged in all winter and hardly flown.

22 year pilot, 15 years A&P/ IA. Leaving your aircraft plugged in continuously is a terrible practice. You might be getting away with it flying weekly. For anyone else plan on replacing your cam and lifters before long.
