This is quite interesting. After doing a recent event I went in search to see what other uses the word for post fader pre-fader. It seems like everybody has used pre-fader for monitors and post fader for effects. The event I did I put my backing track channel into post fader set a reasonable level in the house and then adjusted an offset on the monitor. This way I knew it was gonna be a reasonable volume on stage and as I jumped between different backing tracks some quieter or louder than others the stage volume will follow during the talent show. So as my brain boiled when I got back home I decided to search on the subject.

Glad you like it! Let me know how it works for you if you decide to try it out.

Interesting approach. How do the band members respond to it?

Very interesting, could you provide a demo of this the next time please.

Would love to, I just need a copyright-free multitrack to provide examples. I do a full on demo on this in my IEM Mixing online course on gainmedialab.com.

interesting.. so does everyone get the FOH mix plus or minus themselves?
@gainmedialab2 жыл бұрын
No, not the FOH mix. Their own AUX mix, tailored to their needs. What this approach allows is to have their own channels at consistent levels in their own mix, even if it is being changed for other AUX mixes.

@@gainmedialab sorry i meant LR mix layer mix. im confused why everything is set to 0db post fader. wouldn't that give everyone the same balance of everyone else except themselves? or does it being at 0 act as like a master fader for each channel post the send level for each mix?

That's interesting, but how can you do that sitting behind the mixer while the band is in another location without it throwing everyone off?
@gainmedialab2 жыл бұрын
Never had an issue with that, because all changes to IEM mixes need to be very subtle. It is just a way for the mix to sound more musical. Plus, communication is key. If someone does not like it, I can easily just put their mix in pre-fader mode.
@ItsMeScareCro2 жыл бұрын
@@gainmedialab - Ahhh, gotcha. Plus I'm sure it helps that the band knows that you're doing that. I know when a sound guy starts messing with our monitor mix while we play, it's distracting when nobody asked for any changes. It would definitely help to have a dedicated sound guy.
