Here is me (and briefly, Egone) stripping down my beloved VFR at the end of Feb & early March 2015. Crappy weather means plenty of time to clean her up. Exhaust off & polished, wheels powder coated, new rubber, full service and a final polish & wax, ready for the new season, and our Norway tour in July! Dude, so envious of your attention to detail and facilities, I think every biker on here would love to follow your example and I know my '98 VFR would welcome such TLC!!! Keep it up mate and look forward to watching your next tripe, hope you might catch some of mine this year to Harz though I'm a rank (!!) amateur for sure...

I am a bit daft like that, Gareth. Hate things being upside down, so you can imagine what it was like for the 2 wks that the wheels were away being powder coated and the exhaust away being welded... Garage was like a building site

RichyVida Oh Hell Yeah, I'd need counselling after that!! I'm lucky as I have an understanding wife, so even though I'm not away until June, I'm writing lists, test-packing the gear and loading tunes onto my Garmin in preparation!! Before the Metzellers, were you running Pilot Road 3's, what did you think as I've got those on my new (to me!!) Sprint GT??
@RichyVida9 жыл бұрын
I was runnin PR4's. Great tyre, but I was disappointed because they were shot about 2000 miles shy of what my PR3's did. I was going to go straight back to the 3's, but someone recommended the Metzeler's so I felt like a change. I would have PR3's over any other tyre. They're superb. Looking forward to playing with the Metz though.

Keep me posted, I might need a new set of boots before June!! I'm changing jobs so have five weeks off so will be trying to put some serious miles under my belt to build the confidence levels!! So Norway for you next and I might have an idea for another!; ever thought about the Slovakian Tatras (Mountains) for some high adventure?!?!...

Hi Rich,I could do with your help buddy. I'm looking for a set of new tyres for my VFR and I`m currently running Bridgestone battlax bt023r but I never felt I could put my confidence in them. Like most sport tourer riders I want grip but also a tyre that does not square off after a long motorway trip. I couldn't see in your vids a tyre review, but if figured with all the miles you put in you are the man to recommend a set of tyres. Cheers Mr V. All the best Paul.

Hi Richy enjoyed watching your video and interested in the usb charger you've fitted to your bike. I'm looking for something to charge my phone and Drift camera while touring the Scottish Highlands in June this year. I've a Hella power socket fitted to my 2001 BMW R1100s which is a factory fit and was looking at a Hella to usb but the one you've got looks very neat was it a straight fit direct to the battery. I was also thinking of a power bank so I could charge that during riding and charge camera and batteries at night when camping. I wondered how you deal with this problem while touring many thanks Pete
@RichyVida9 жыл бұрын
It's not a problem at all, Peter. The usb charger is a simple plug and play to the battery. It has an inline fuse, and also protects the battery by turning itself off if the battery drops below a certain point. So you can keep things charging even when the bike is turned off, knowing that it is not going to drain power from the battery. About £25 with a nice long cable so you can place it in a convenient place. As you saw on the vid.

Sweeeet. That must be the tidiest '03 VFR out there, a job well done :D I'm currently looking for a VFR, do you have any advice on what to look out for in the older ('02-'03) VFRs?
@RichyVida9 жыл бұрын
Well mileage is nothing to go by on these really. Mine has done over 50k now, and still fresh as a daisy. I replaced the CCT's (Cam Chain Tensioners, with genuine honda) last year as they were starting to rattle a bit and I couldn't believe the difference. As long as it's been serviced and looked after you should be fine. Just don't buy a pig just because it's a bit cheaper.. Still love it, and will never get rid. I think the vast majority of people who own one will say the same too.

That's what you call a proper spring clean! You're getting me hooked on these VFR800's. Being looking at a few over here in New Brunswick where I live. The only thing is i'm a beginner. Going to take my motorcycle test in the next year. Some people tell me to start with a 250cc and some say to start with a VFR800. Personally i'd like to go with a VFR. I'm 47 years old so you'd think at this age I should be careful and safer. Any advice Richy?

Will do! I saw a 2005 VFR800, it had over 25000km, full service history for $3250 CDN! It was advertised on a web site called kijjii yesterday, I checked again this morning and it was sold! When I get one I"ll send you some photos. You're videos are good and keep them coming. Egone has a following here in Canada!!

The bike looks great. Instead of polishing my pipes I went for black pipe bandages on my cb1000r. Your pipes looks really nice. And that goes for the rims as well. How much did the powder coating cost? They rims look awesome. Safe ride to Norway.
@RichyVida9 жыл бұрын
Jon, the powder coating cost £85 and they are spot on. They really were getting scabby, and I've been meaning to have them done for a couple years. Thanks mate :-)
@banarne719 жыл бұрын
RichyVida Did you have to sand blaster them yourself or is that included in the price? Price is for both rims? I had myself a sunny ride this morning although it was a bit chilly. Season is upon us and that is great and a big part of what we are living for.
@RichyVida9 жыл бұрын
Amen to that Jon Wanglöf No, that was all included in the price, for both rims, job done.

Is that rust on the downpipes or do they just go that orange/brown colour due to the heat? Been looking at a few VFRs on auto trader and when you look at them from the front through the gap in the fairing or from the right where you can see where the exhaust system is exposed they all look rusty 🤔
@RichyVida8 жыл бұрын
Yes, the downpipes do go a bit rusty. The Stainless system would be a better shout. They do clean up though with a bit of elbow grease.

How are the m7rr's in the wet mate? I ride all year round so would like to know if they come close to the pr3's or 4's. great vid!! !
@RichyVida8 жыл бұрын
+Tony bennett the M7rr's are bloody superb mate. I will always have PR3's for touring though, as they last longer. Not sure how many miles I've done on them now (took them off to tour Norway and they're back on now) but probably around 4k Mark. Super in wet, I've never had 1 doubt about them. I wouldn't mind a 2nd set of wheels so I can keep both sets of tyres fresh. I will defo have more M7's ;-)
