Pre-WGU | Study.com after 1 week (skipped CySA+)

This is an update video after trying study.com. I took the class that allows me to bypass the CompTIA CySA requirement for one of the WGU classes. Overall I think the class was ok, but I need to work on learning to cite my sources better using the MLA format for assessments. Writing a paper in MLA format is easy, but citing sources in MLA is a weak point for me. I'm also not sure if I'll be able to knock out classes once a week like I originally planned but I'm not giving up! I'd say study.com is definitely worth it if you're trying to quickly earn college credit to transfer into WGU.
As mentioned in the video, the WGU class that would've required me to complete take and pass the CompTIA CySA+ exam was the Cyber Defense and Counter Measures class, but I've bypassed that requirement by completing the Study.com class called Computer Science 331: Cybersecurity Risk Analysis Management.

I know this was made about a year ago, but for anyone stuck on the sourcing portion: find an article that already has citations in it and use the bibliography/reference section of that article to find additional articles/books/etc. Even better if that initial article is already in the format requested (in this case MLA).

Transferring in almost 75% and will be joining WGU come November. Just an FYI: I have 3 monitors as well and they're ok if you just cover it with a blanket or towel. Great video, the quizzes are impossible to fail and honestly most classes are as well, just take a lot of time like you said. Biggest gripe is they take forever to grade the proctored exams and assignments, especially annoying when I need only 10 points to pass an exam. Last tip I'll give you is just half-ass the things that you struggle on (e.g. sources), hell, even skip them. You touch on needing just 210 so don't put yourself through the grief.

That's true. I ended getting far over the 210 requirement once everything was graded so I won't stress as much going forward when I do assessments for other classes. Good luck on your WGU journey! What degree are you going for?

If I pass my CASP+, which is a higher certificate than CySA+, wouldn't that automatically grant me WGU "credits" for lesser certs? What about expired certs like CCNP that I had ages ago, will WGU take that into consideration? TIA

For WGU? It depends on the class. Some require an internal exam to pass the class, and some require you to write a paper. For some classes you need to pass an external exam and obtain an IT certification. The requirements are per class though and you can use Study and Sophia to bypass a lot of those requirements. In this video, one of the classes I took at Study.com meant I don't have the take the CySA+ in order to pass that class anymore at WGU. I also don't need it anymore to get the degree because the whole class was skipped.

I was planning on just using Study for my General Ed. Been 5yrs since I was in the iT field how long would you say that’ll take to complete

Your experience in IT will definitely help, but there are too many other variables to for me to accurately give you an estimate on how long it'll take you completed the degree. It varies greatly from person to person. Your study habits, how disciplined you are, and how quickly you can retain the information is what matters. I think the average time for most students is 2.5 years to complete the bachelors degree.

If you didn't get 300 points in all the tests, but your scored 210 to pass the class, will you be graded as B or C for your score ?

After viewing your video, I was genuinely surprised by your struggle to cite your sources. This struck me as unusual because, in the United Kingdom, when you pursue higher education, citing sources is considered a fundamental skill. It is expected that you accurately reference your material in a specific manner, which is ingrained in the educational system. While I have not personally attended university in the United States, I assume that a similar practice is followed there as well. If not, it would be perplexing because it would mean that sources could be drawn from anywhere without proper acknowledgment. However, I believe that traditional universities employ a program called Turnitin to scrutinize the authenticity of sources. I apologize for my surprise when you mentioned finding that aspect challenging. It appears to me that Western Governors University (WGU) does not require source citation in writing assignments
