Nice educational video! My Great Grandfather was in the Marines in WWII. He never spoke of the war to me cause I was too young at the time but one day while snooping around in the basement I found his old uniform and all kinds of other really cool things. My favorite was the mortar round he had down there that was just for display after he rendered it safe. Anyways, after I found all that stuff I told him I found it and then he started telling me some of his non-graphic stories which some were sad and others funny as all hell. He passed when I was about 14 years old and about 90% of his old things he left for me in his will cause I was really the only one in the family that was and still am very much so into those things and all things educational from the Civil War all the way to present day Afghanistan war. Thanks for posting this, it took me back to all of those awesome memories with/of him.

Just to say the inference that the Small Box Respirator was developed directly from the kind of breathing apparatus used in coal mines is incorrect. The facepiece was developed from the German Gumimask and the filter as a smaller version of that used with the Large Box Respirator. It was bulkier than the German mask but gave better protection, it was designed as a combat mask and the reason the Americans adopted it was because it offered the best protection of any combat respirator on the battlefield in 1917-18.

Where did you get the round canteen? I have a collection but most of it I didn’t buy. I have a ww2 granatwerfer 36 practice round. Which is by far the most rare item I own and I haven’t even seen pictures of it the only way I figured it out was a translated German documents from ww2. Most of my items were my grandpas before he passed. Let me know if you want to hear more of my collection.

Just in case you dint know that p17 enfield is actually an old home guard gun. Many where given to the home guard buy the us in ww2. The way you can tell this is a home guard gun is the red paint near the barrel. As it fired the 306 round it had a red ring painted on it. So a old home guard privet with poor eye site wouldn't force a 303 round in to the camber and brake it.

Nice display. However, Sergeant Quick signalled to the USS Dolphin to cease fire at Cusco Well because another company of Marines had crested the hill and was now in the line of fire from the Dolphin. The Dolphin was the only ship in the area that day. Quick was exposed to gun fire from the Spanish in the valley as he signalled.

During WW1 and WW2, the same cartridge belt was used up until the Korean war. In WW1 each pouch held 5 rifle rounds on a stripper clip to charge the rifle. During WW2 it held one 8 round enbloc clip for the M1 Garand rifle.

The patch he is referring to is a 2nd Infantry Division Patch; as well as the painted 2d Infantry Division Insignia on the helmet. It is The only division ever formed on foreign soil, and the only division to ever have a brigade of Marines, or to be commanded by Marine Corps Generals Doyen, and Lejeuene! This guy needs to bone up on BOTH Army and Marine Corps history, and especially 2d Infantry Division History! I should know, I served in the 2d Infantry division on Korea's DMZ from Nov 79 to March 81 with 1st Bn, 9th Infantry (MANCHU) . Keep Up The Fire!!

Your wrong on so many things bud, the P-17 was sent to france to be used in combat , the US had more M1917 rifles than '03 Springfields. SGT. York had a M1917 the day he did the heroic fight that got him the Medal of Honor, this guy is wrong on so many things. The 1911 is not WW1 correct WW1 Colts were blued not parkerized, this guys full of .......... WWII 1911A1's were parkerized all thought some left overs from WW1 were in use. As far as the WW1 Campain medal, those "clasps" are like battle stars like we use today He said, "for what you did". I am a military historian this guy is what we hate.
