i dare say, this was a more painful punch to Blizzard's gut, than any they ever received from FFXIV's success. because it took nothing, but the sheer creativity of one dude. and he deserves every last bit of publicity this will get him.

This was more painful than FFXIV because FFXIV "success" was basically a trend, and numbers started going down fast in FFXIV after the "it's a wow killer" trend passed and people saw what FFXIV was really about. But this, this is a WoW player making a real point and showing how hiring people based on politics and fear of being signalled by very angry vocal communities in social media won't help on making a good story.

@@simonsalgueiro6217 not to mention how he did it and the time frame, blizzard's overpaid writing team had the most compelling characters and important locations at their disposal and 2 years. This one guy, used basically unknown characters, a location no one cares about and a month to make this.

I played a NElf back in the day and I would deliberately make my way over to Westfall and level there once I hit lv10 because I liked the human early zones way more over everyone elses.

I made the mistake of doing Stonetalon once as Alliance and avoided it for a dozen other characters. They send you there from Ashenvale but the Stonetalon quests are just way too scarce & spread out to be worth doing as Alliance. Stonetalon isn't so bad with epic mount but running it is ridiculous compared to other zones.

I played Nelfs and never leveled there. I went from Darkshore to Ashenvale to Desolace. The only time I ever went there was to get the map completed when Exploration Achievements were introduced. And even that was only the very first time I leveled a character at all. Once I knew how to get to Stormwind from Darkshore, that's where I went instead.

As someone who didn't play WoW I totally bought into this all the way up until he mentioned the SoCal Lady Killer wiki page and went to look so that I could read along and didn't find one. Personally I'd have added a line about how the deaths only trigger if you're in the zone by yourself - which would make it harder to falsify.

I think a genius park of the story telling is that he allows you to continuously call in to question everything that is happening until he can hook you in. He doesn't just assume you are invested. He puts in the work to get you invested

In the Halls of Flesh-Shaping, before you summon Durumu the Forgotten, a player can spy an unidentified blood elf female huddled under one of the beholder stones. I tried questioning blizzard about it and didn't get a response. When one investigates the 3D models for the zone she's just labled as "stone" and is linked to the statue. After the statues drop away, she vanishes along with them. It's also possible to use farsight to look outside of the walls in that zone and see the untextured cubes, so many unfinished things were left inside.

I think the most memorable part about the zone was the cata rework, where they later admitted the guy who made the zone didn't properly coordinate with the rest of the crew and made garrosh way more badass and likeable than he was ever intended to be. That glimmer of hope sparked by that zone probably fueld more MoP/Horde/Garrosh discussions than any other zone of the rework.

I love Stonetalon mountains, idk why that is supposed to be the most forgettable one. Maybe for Alliance, but for Horde, it has to one of the more memorable ones. I am right, right? I always look forward to getting to this zone when I play a new character.

I love that zone too. It's one of my go-to spots for leveling in that level range (probably because I'm horde and I love pvp). For me personally, Wetlands is the most forgettable as I never go there leveling a new character. Even forgot about it until I looked at a list of Vanilla zones.

As an alliance player for most of my wow life. I did not know about stonetalon mountains until classic 2019 when I made my own horde character. I only found out this year there are shortcuts in the Sun Rock Retreat to The Charred Vale. I use to level lots of characters from vanilla - wrath as a kid but never went there ever. I knew its retail version sort of but not the original.

The most memorable part about Stonetalon as a horde player in classic WoW, is that its a legit option to escape what is known as "The Barrens Chat", other then that ... i can't really recall anything notable from that zone.

I hate stonetalon mountains, to this day. It was the point where you left the safety of the barrens. My first toon was on a PVP server, Andoral. And i forget the guild, but they had 2 guys camping the entrance to stonetalon, to one shot anyone leaving the barrens. But worse, they not only camped you, but had 2 other dudes stationed at the graveyard. I believe me and my friends literally gave up and rerolled on a different pvp server, with less DB's on it.

Even tho this is made up, and done rather well mind you, the scary part is somewhere out there a real dev for any number of games is a killer, and it makes you wonder what he/she' put into a game to silently brag their deed. Personally... the least memorable zone for me as an Alliance player is Arathi Highlands.. The level gap between quests in the zone is staggeringly high, theres not enough quests to actually level properly and most quests are group quests which are 6-7 levels higher than the other quests... In addition, when you're done with the Wetlands or Hillsbrad, you're still too low lvl for Arathi Highlands, meaning alot of players don't even return to the place.

I had logged out the night before on the other continent and when I logged in right after maintenance day I was falling from the sky with a bunch of other players above Arathi then died to fall damage to a invisible floor mid air.
