This is a great video. I would like to explore additional details as it relates to microbes entering the PA-Sinuses. Having had bilateral PA-Sinuses (Non-Syndromic) my entire life and encountering hundreds of others with the defect (especially in the era of worldwide communication online), perhaps the most discussed and most bothersome feature is frequent discharge. Nearly everyone with these sinuses complains of a strong, foul odor of discharge -- Literally a smell that is synonymous with human fecal matter (shxt!). Release of the discharge can be involuntary at times when smiling, laughing or by a variety of other facial movements -- An unexpected discharge even in the smallest of amounts can release a pungent smell that is particularly embarrassing, especially if being intimate with others. Most of us however, usually feel an itch and respond by itching the sinus location which often results in the discharge. It seems many intentionally squeeze/drain their PA-sinuses as often as possible for obvious reasons. Discharge can be clear to yellowish liquid to thick and pasty-like purulent exudate. It appears the PA-Sinus itch is intense due to the body trying to naturally heal or close off the "opening" -- The body recognizes this sinus as abnormal and as a defense mechanism develops a tiny keratin scab at the opening to close it. Just about all of us remove the tiny scab by itching, rubbing, or picking it off to accomplish manual discharge especially. Of course the sinus can't close off naturally in any permanent fashion (despite the bodies effort to do this repeatedly) the only option is surgical intervention. The video illustrations here make it seem as if microbial pathogens enter the sinuses from the physical opening (hole) of the ear. Is this completely accurate? The NIH reports the pathogens causing PA-Sinus/Pit infection is Staphylococcal species, and less frequently, Proteus bacilli, Streptococcus and Peptococcus species. Given that all of these Bacterial Flora are present in the gut/body, could this be where the buildup and fecal-like odor comes from? Perhaps during transport of various immune responses to close off the sinus/pit (of which a great deal of the immune system exists in the gut), could these bacteria be migrating to the PA-Sinus/Pit from the gut or other parts of the body? While bacteria are everywhere, it just doesn't seem as easy for the bacteria to enter the PA-Sinus/Pit from external sources versus internally. There are several videos about PA-Sinus Etiology and Surgical Repair, but those of us with these unique (and sometimes gross lol) anomalies have so many more questions. KLH, I hope you know how much I appreciate your time -- I'm sure many of us would be grateful for your thoughts on this :)

Thank you for the video. What's your opinion of using a typical q-tip to clean the canal regularly? I used to have this prearicular sinus before going for a surgery to have it removed.

Excuse me admin, would you like to ask if you have books or journals that explain radiological examination techniques for fistulography in the ear with preauricular cases?

How often do you see a fistula in adults? I'm 100 positive I've got one linked to the inner mucosa of my jaw area that's been productive for 4 years now.

I had preauricular sinus & i went thro surgery to remove it when i was 8years old. But it was unsuccessful. But after that now i am 24 years old, that my sinus got infected. So i went to local hospital & doctor did an incision surgery to let out the pus & gave me antibiotics. But it didnt work. I had dressing for one month & he then thought of giving me stitches on that area but again after giving me stitches infection came up. As a result he did another incision. N i do still go for dressing. Its one & half month running. He didnt remove it totally cause he says he is confused where the pus actually coming from. He said- when the first surgery goes wrong, its very critical to find out the cyst inside to remove it. So he is not doing that totally removal surgery. Here it hurts alot im mentally feeling so bad. I dont know what to do either. 😞
