Next best thing to a time machine is listening to these lectures of yours. I can and do listen repeatedly without ever becoming bored. I'd like to think it's because they are so information dense that I can always catch something new and not that I'm going senile and forgetting what I've already heard but even if that can't be ruled out the enjoyment is equally rich. The stromatolites could have survived snowball earth simply because the cyanobacteria making the colony constituting the stromatolites could have survived as individuals living close by active volcanos. Those last ones can create warm niches at sea, permitting photosynthesis for individual cyanobacteria not part of a stromatolite.
