Rio Maybe she means taking education, a good home, loving parents etc. for granted. It is a good point. Precious is extremely unprivileged, comes from the worst circumstances, was raped, has aids because of the rape, is abused by her mother and so on...yet she still is able to love and move forward. She deserves so much better, but she was practically born into this situation. Nothing that happens to her is her fault. And seeing something like this, while knowing it does actually happen in real life makes you appreciate what you got more. You shouldn't complain about trivial thing, but appreciate the good things in your life.

Cristina Sanders a piece of paper? A degree is more than just a piece of paper. It's the next step to achieving one's goals. Someone who is aspiring to become a teacher or doctor or chef or pilot wouldn't think a degree is just a piece of paper. I don't know if you know this or not, but there are actually some people who want to pursue a career in something that requires higher education. And for those that are fine with a high school education, that's great for them too! But don't try to downplay the importance of a diploma.

Agree, I was raised by a single mom on minimum wage after my sexually abusive father finally left. I was dirt poor with no one but my mom, bullied and in the worst neighborhood. I was heading down the wrong path, experimenting with drugs and heavily drinking. It was only because I met someone that believed me that I decided to go back to school, I failed, tried again, failed. Finally after 8 years I somehow finished a nursing degree. Somehow I excelled in the program and at my job. It was my ticket out of poverty and into an entirely different world.

Just like when you think your crazy but you see people crazier so you feel less crazy and feel better about your self. He didn't mean to hurt feelings of the girl he just meant you would feel better about your life after watching this.

The mother treats Precious so terribly but is devastated when she realizes she’ll be left alone. Misery loves company. There are girls out there like precious. What inspired me was how likeable precious is. She was never a hateful person regardless of her circumstances. It's a powerful message. People that go through heartbreaks like precious are special. Her mother isn't a villan in my opinion . The psychological issues are the biggest problem with people in poverty. You can't blame these people. Finacial prison is literally worse than prison sometimes. But this movie gave me a good feeling in the end because I am proud of lower-end teachers and social workers that choose low wage salaries because they really want to help people.

Still one of my favorite films of all time. Heart-wrenching, brutal, thought-provoking, yet inspiring, and courageous. She went through absolute hell. Was deprived of nearly everything, and had all the odds against her, but even with life's series of unfortunate events, she is still able to dream, and want better for herself and her children. Precious is such an epitome of strength, and the sheer will to survive. I never stop loving this film for the message it gives.

Unfortunately, there are some cruel, selfish and heartless people in this world and they like nothing more than to take advantage of and bully good people 😢 and this story happens in real life; there are children born to parents who are not able to look after and abuse young children. Some of those young children are lucky enough to be adopted; many of the others have to live through that hell that’s supposed to be there home since the day they were born and it’s so unfair. this movie makes me so emotional because it makes me realize not only that there's always someone out there that has it worse than you but also that education is immensely important. I think of all of the students in my class who don't give a shitabout coming the school and they always slack off and are disrespectful to the teachers and I just think that, there's some other kids somewhere else in this country that wishes that they had the opportunity to come to school everyday but they can't because they can't afford it or they are in serious situation that there in is holding them back from doing that. Never ever take education for granted , it's so important and I wish more people my age it would realize that.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and if you knew me that would surprise you. But I feel every single nuance this film is meant to help people understand. It gives me all the "feels" as I'm told people on twitter say haha. This film's writing and acting and message is absolutely exceptional.

It was nominated for best picture, got Monique an Oscar, the film was critically acclaimed, made a good profit, people remember it. It doesn't seem underrated. If you're waiting for the day that these kinds of movies outperform Marvel/DC movies, I regret to inform you that's never gonna happen.

I watched this movie when I was about 12 because it was the only movie at my grandma’s house that I hadn’t watched yet. I didn’t understand most of it at the time, but the more I look back at it the more I appreciate it. But also the more I realize that was a lot for a 6th grader to watch before bed...
