I have no desire to install a digital depth stop on my drill press, but your presentation caught my attention. You sir are a natural teacher, well spoken, good camera angles, lots of detail, and a good sense of humor. You have earned a subscriber. And I appreciate the time and effort in your teachings.

Hi, This is a great solution to accurate depth measurement on the drill press. But, and I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this already, you should advise people to check inside of the press (while it is of course unplugged from mains) that the mounting holes have no live switching/wiring etc behind where they are drilling. If not then this could lead to very unfortunate and dangerous, if not fatal, results, such as instant shock or creating a live machine. Please don't take my comment as mindless negativity, I like your vids and appreciate the effort you take making them, I just think that this should have been pointed out before progressing with the actual drilling of the body. Again, thanks and keep up the good work!

I really like this design because it allows you to not only get a precise read out, but to also use the mechanical stop. The perfect combination to the two technologies. Well done.

They say hindsight is a wonderful thing. The beauty of watching someone else do all the leg work and testing gives us viewers the benefit of that hindsight. If you ended up not using the depth stop that would give two readily available fixings. Remove the depth stop screw and bolt through the holes. I will have a look at mine and see if that is possible. It is a genius idea though. I too have DRO envy and didn't think of this blindingly obvious solution! Thank you for sharing. I see you are still posting so I have subscribed.

Great video Patrick. I have this drill press and it has served me well. I do have a bit of run out in the chuck but I'll bet I can eliminate it by reseating it. I'm also going to replace the chuck with a keyless one. The only thing that is slightly annoying to me is that the rpm gauge stays on when the drill press is off. I may add a tiny push switch to it so I can get it to turn off when the drill press is off.

Well done sir... I recently purchased the same drill press through Home Depot on SALE at $238.00... Quite frankly, it is worth every penny at the full retail of $299.00! It seems to be one of those best kept secrets out there. I absolutely love the variable speed feature on this unit... I have a machining background going back many years now & this looks like an enjoyable project to get started on! Bill on the Hill, Vermont, USA... :~)

Outstanding video! I learned several things from this. How to lay out, bend and machine a custom bracket; the fact that I can machine aluminum to thickness with a carbide bit in the router table; and that I will buy a low-cost caliper made of FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) so I don't have to try to drill hardened tool steel.

Excellent idea.. I added a accessory table to to my old Craftsman drill to make it a more modern drill press i then found a 8”x8” lift stand for my drill with a knob in front to raise and lower it. It was rated at 68 lbs of lift. I found it on Amazon under scientific instruments. Now I just loosen the table clamp and accurately raise or lower.

As a note with CA glue, less can be more. You used a lot of CA glue when 3 drops would have done. CA likes a very thin layer, at most, with thin viscosity glues. CA is bailable is a lot of viscosities depending on use from ultra-thin (thinner than water) through ultra-thick (thicker than molasses). You can also apply a light coverage of glue on one side and activator on the other; they should bond instantly. If you don’t have CA activator, AKA kicker, you can lightly dust one side with baking soda; you can also use baking soda as a filler or with high viscosity glues as a quick setting paste. I’ve used CA glues for years with good results; it is quite versatile when used for its strengths and not pushed beyond its weaknesses.

Great to see another video of you Patrick! Got a little worried as it took a while since the last one. Happy to see you're doing fine! Excellent build, videography, explanation, and humor. And a free template! Thanks! After your time with this drill press, are you happy with it? I, like you, have lusted after bigger, maybe better, and way more expensive ones, but alas, although I am rapidly approaching retirement age, the last time I put my data into one of those online calculators it told me I'll be able to comfortably retire at 117. Of course, that depends on how one defines comfort, but I digress. Anyway, the Wen appeals to me mainly for the easy of varying the speed. I think I'm too lazy to switch belts and pulleys as often as I should. How has this press held up? Patrick and community, your review will be appreciated.
