Acrylic resin actually makes a stronger and more resonant bond between body and neck as well as between body segments. Hyde glues never fully harden and are effected by extreme temperature changes. Acrylic gardens to an almost glass hardness and remains stable from 50 below zero to 150 above.

Precision Guitar kits are absolutely top notch guitars. If anyone who watches this is unsure about them, don't be. You'll be mad you didn't try them sooner is all I'll say. Also, don't listen to this guy or the guy he talked to at Gibson Garage. Hot Hide Glue isn't the secret mojo behind it. The reason custom shop guitars feel good or appear to is because they're not product line instruments. They have legit luthier's whose only job is to build those. Hide glue is used primarily because if it ever needs a neck reset, it's easier to heat those bonds up again to loosen the joints to repair easier than glues like tite-bond or epoxies.

I have a Gibson custom shop r9 les Paul and have been wanting a 57 les Paul jr but don’t want to break the bank. Is the precision guitar kits jr just as good? Like the feel or is it more like a product line? Thanks
@maxwellcohen2917 Жыл бұрын
@@ethanraley9067 I had double cut Les Paul Jr from them that I absolutely loved. I will say it's not exactly like a Gibson because the neck and headstock angle along with the neck tenon are different in design and spec. Also the scale length was shortened to something like 24.662 inches to avoid being sued I think. It's high quality stuff. Haven't seen a single negative review against them. If you really want to test their quality they have a clearance section for items with blemishes, and usually they aren't super expensive. Been playing guitar for over twenty years and have built, repaired and modified many guitars in that time. I swear by them. I'm not sponsored or anything by them.

This is a fine example of PGK's custom stuff, but I'd like to mention that everything they make is that good. I've built a few dozen kits and partscasters, but only one from Precision, their cheapest alder Tele, and it's still the best-playing thing I've ever done.
@maxwellcohen29172 жыл бұрын
Check out their clearance section on occasion. You see some really interesting looking kits that way. They have some telecasters of a special nature in there now I've been crushing on. Snagged one of their 58 DC Jr.'s on clearance for $250 and built an awesome axe out of it.

You just confirmed what I already knew from looking at their website. You can literally make a better than Gibson or Fender guitar. I really wish there were better fingerboard wood options, though. I offered to send them a board that I wsnt to use, but they won’t go for that. Life is a series of compromises.

Nice job Trevor,I’ve watched your video several times and decided to give this kit a shot,my question to you is what was the neck fit like,were you able to pick it up without the neck coming from the body (dry fit,not glued) or was just that precise that the glue would do the trick (I’m not decided about which glue,but maybe ) thanks for any info you can give

Beautiful job! How was the fretwork out of the box? Did it need any leveling/crowning? How did you do the nitro finish? Also you said it’s a quilted maple top, but It looks like flame to me. Maybe just not the highest grade?
@maxwellcohen29172 жыл бұрын
Precision Guitar Kits fretwork is top notch. Even on their clearance items. Promise. No fretwork needed whatsoever. No sharp fret ends, no spots or gouges. Don't even need to polish them. Truly respectable work. If you're not sure as to whether or not they're worth it, stop over thinking it and jump in. These aren't like the cheap import kits from China, these are in fact top notch, top of the line creations with minor tweaks to improve them. For example, despite having several Gibson style guitars, they adjust the neck angle and head stock angle and my PGK guitar vs. my Gibson, the tuning stability is better. Albeit it may have more to do with the fact that the kit I got had a paddle headstock so I made it more like a PRS guitar headstock instead of it being like a traditional Gibson styled one. If you're concerned about grade of flame maple, they have different options you can select. Looks like he got the standard flame maple, they have premium options, and quilted maple as well. You're not limited to those though. You can do white/black limba, alder, swamp ash, the list goes on. They really deserve more of a following is hope dope they are.

Very close to buying a precision guitars kit in the junior model and your video has helped with my uncertainty. It’s sounds just as good unplugged as cranked! Curious, why do you prefer the 50’s wiring? Thanks
@GabeHelma Жыл бұрын
50s wiring is so much better for people that ride the tone/vol. It alters the high end roll off and it just sounds much more vintage correct like all of our favorite classic recordings. Try it, you might be amazed, i know i was!

Feel the difference in glues? Can you explain that a bit more. Feel the difference in finishes (oil, nitro vs poly) absolutely, hear the difference in finishes, maybe, but I've never heard anyone say they could hear/feel the differences in glue before. Tease that out a bit more please.

Choice of glue is irrelevant to playability & tone. Glues aren't "special."
