grounding internally introduces noise into the audio signal which is output directly to the pre-amp. this is exactly why panasonic grounded it separately. while the grounding circuit shows continuity between these points, one should not internally ground to the audio output...unless you're into noise.

@JohnMac - You are 100% correct! If you are doing regular stuff... You can use this method. But you are doing " Recording " or " DJ's " or " Video Dubs, etc... " than the " Ground Wire " should always be separate.

I have done this mod using an rca plate bolted into the existing circular plate ,the rca plate costs £2 . This a great way to match the capacitance of cabling to the input of a mixer .
@dab97425 ай бұрын
And after this modification, you'll have to use a soldering iron to open the turntable ! I prefer the original system, because it's one less connection, just replace the original cable with a better one, and the upgrade is even better ! 😉

I've serviced 100s of pairs of 1200s I no longer recommend the internal ground as not all mixers share the same ground and ive found the decks to be quieter with a standard ground, a nice heavy spade and some quality heat shrinking will make a ground cable last many many gigs for years.
@MannyRosa7 жыл бұрын
As great as the mod idea may be, I have a hard time believing it's worth $200 each. And anytime the turntable will need service, you have to unsolder it! I may work on my own removable version.
@xaenon5 жыл бұрын
Before Radio Shack went bust, I could pick up the parts to convert to RCA jacks for about $30. My mod might not be as 'purty' as this, but it would work just as well, and for a fraction of the cost. It just seems to me this is aimed at people with more cash than sense. Also, a separate ground wire is still best.

You are founding the negative side of just one channel, why would you do this? You re more likely to introduce ground currents into the sensitive high impendence cartridge circuit. Where did you get the idea that this is an improvement? The turntable had a proper ground already installed which was intended to tie the ground of the turntable to the ground of the following equipment whether its an amplifier or a preamplifier. I bet the design engineers would shake their heads in disbelief if they ever watched this video. .

Nice job ... but 199 Euros (plus cost of a technician if you can';t do it yourself) is a bit excessive! ... and Manny Ross makes a good point - have to be desoldered if you need to get inside the deck again! Would be better with sockets but then that would add another 100 Euros :-)

Shouldn't you also bridge the ground for the right channel (red) to prevent hum on one side of the signal when using the SL's with DVS? I want to do this myself and someone told me it's better to ground right and left to prevent earth hum on one side of the signal when use=ing DVS records.
