Bought this piece of junk yesterday, got it today, tried it 2 hours ago, gave up, and ende up here just one hour after the video was uploaded. Well fk me, at least now I know why I can't get it to desolder for the love of me. Goes straight back to where it came from.

I have purchased a few Preciva tools over the years and they are some of the best examples of 'you get what you pay for' that I own. Glad to say this soldering station isn't one of those though! At least you have done us all a service reviewing it.

Thank you for pointing out that a solder iron tip should be grounded. I run an 80w watt Ebay cheapo that has a digital temp control built into the handle. It probably isn't great for pcb work, but combined with a 12v to 120v inverter and a power point (cigarette lighter) lead extension is great for repairing wires on a car (or excavator, golf cart, whatever is in the shop this week), but I need to check to see if it is properly grounded. Safety first!

This thing is not isolated from the main. The cheaper and simple version is the soldering iron with transparant case handle. The controller is in the transparant handle. It is cheaper. Model like : wep 908, sl 905, sl 907. They use 4 wires heater.

KMS Tools has a WELLER temp control station for $69Cdn. It's a basic job with no display, but who doesn't have a thermocouple for their DMM? It comes with a regular Weller pencil that plugs into the AC socket on the side, so presumably any pencil would work, like the one with LEDs. Made in MEXICO.

Things usefull you need to buy are a box of heatshrink tubes (different sizes in a box) and also some crimping pliers (especially ones for awg 30-20 uninsulated).

@@KeepOnTesting yoy friend. For chinese soldering things i keep with my fav brand : proskit, mechanic, yihua. Crimping pliers are very usefull for electronic projects and repair. I ended up with SN-01BM, Tekiro 9 in 1 crimping plier, PZ0.25-2.5. wish you can add your pliers photos on your website. Nasi goreng and teh celup for this morning friend :-)

This explains a lot, I bought it a while ago now and it was working fine fresh out the box but not now. I thought it was the soldering tip not actually transferring heat but now I see the problem. I’m glad I didn’t waste too much on this pos. I really thought I was getting a good deal, I guess the reviews on Amazon are bullshit.

@@KeepOnTestingI’ve just taken a look at mine (after it being stored away for months obviously) my soldering tip is actually already grounded and with a bit of tweaking of that inside potentiometer I got it accurate enough. It was almost like it was set too low. I still gave it 1 star on Amazon because I shouldn’t have to open it up and manually calibrate it. Their QA must be awful.

I have this iron, albeit the UK version (240v) and I don't recognise the temperature sluggishness. It's actually the fastest soldering iron i've got for heating up. No idea why the discrepency in performance. However, it's definitely a budget iron, had to replace the hearing element once already (2 years old).

It looks dangerous. The heater is powered straight from the mains, and the electronics from a capacitive power supply. The lack of connected ground is the icing on the cake.

Worst iron I've ever seen and it's *hilarious* that it has a sleep mode as the only thing that they could have done to make this iron worse would be to have it fall asleep occasionally so that you have to wait another 20 minutes for it to reheat. I've still got a cheap, dumb 18W iron that my Dad bought in 1982. It has no electronics whatsoever, heats in 1-2 minutes, and works better than a supposed "60W" chinesium station that I bought 8 years ago.

It's actually decent for the money. You got a lemon. Send it back. I'm an electronic engineer at Apple and i have one of these at home that me and my son use on our rc cars, $60,000 rc jet and boats. Works great.

NO quality control on this one, cheaply designed poorly built and assembled - not worth the time to open the package. Right outta the box had to open case solder the ground and make adjustments that should have been done in assembly and checked in QC, a safety hazard and performance fail. Judging by other comments this isnt a one off either.

So true! Suffice to say Preciva has some poor QC that just oozes crap. This is the result of making a buck at any cost. This soldering station really lowers the bar for mass production standards. Definitely a brand to stay away from.
