As a recovering gambling addict, we recognize when someone is just trying to minimize. He didn’t say it wasn’t gambling, he just said “not on his own games” He’s sad because he is 100% in debt to friends, family, banks, and apparently even strangers. It definitely makes you sad and affects your “mental” because you are constantly thinking about where to get money even knowing that you’ve already lied and scammed people you care about, hence “I’ve not been a good person.” You know you’re doing it but can’t stop. I feel bad for him, but he needs to get some help. And it’s the kind of help that lasts more than a month vacay. He’s still in the denial phase and I’m sure he’s still telling himself the problem isn’t as big as it is, despite all evidence to the contrary. Your mind fucks with you, just like any other addiction.

I totally agree. It felt pretty blatant to me. He was dancing around the gambling topic the whole time and would only outright deny betting on his own matches. It seems he's put himself in a hole financially and that's caused his mental health to decline. He's trying to put the spotlight on mental health and distract and deflect from the actual underlying gambling addiction issue, probably lying just as much to himself as he is everybody else. He said his teammates were trying to help him but he basically refused it, and for OpTic having a player with a degenerate gambling problem AND gambling sponsors (prizepicks) simultaneously is a really bad look. No wonder they dropped him.

@@BossEwok That's what I was thinking just now. Maniac struggled with drugabuse and the org hasn't dropped him. I'd like to imagine, OpTic, especially Hecz, did everything they could to help him. Hecz treats his players, content creators etc. (only talking about those, because that's the only interactions I've seen on video) like his sons basically. He cares a lot for his org and close ones. It probably was one of the hardest decisions to make. Unfortunately, winning champs and being in an org that pays top notch and on top of that, Hecz is known for giving second chances - all of that together probably enabled his addiction even more and made it worse. Hope he'll wake up and get the help he needs.

Unfortunately for me, listening to that statement from Pred screamed to me, someone who has a gambling problem and isn't ready to admit it. Everything was deverted away from it being an issue for him. Now he might of behind closed door admitted he has a problem, which is the most important thing. He might not want the whole community knowing he has an issue with gambling because it could cause him issues when trying to get on another team, especially if they are sponsored by a betting company. I just hope he's addressing the issues he needs to address and isn't pushing anything under the carpet because it will come back up if he doesn't have the correct support around me.

Long rant: This whole situation makes no sense... Why was he scrimming every day, why did he play in the 2 League matches? Why did he turn his stream on at 1AM and play 8s with Shotzzy on Tuesday night if he was planning on taking a leave of absence the very next day, why not announce he was taking a leave of absence.. He was most likely still scrimming and playing every day because he needed the money to get out of the debt he is in. I don’t think it was Pred’s decision to step away. Based on what Pred said in his video, my guess is that Hecz had offered to help Pred multiple times and suggested to him to get help. Pred wouldn’t, and continued to struggle and be cantankerous to be around, and Hecz forced Pred to get help by reaching out to Pred’s family and removing him from the team. Different addictions require different approaches. Maniac was very open about his struggles and often times individuals with substance abuse need a solid support system to hold them accountable and remind them that they are still someone to be proud of outside of using. Gambling, however, has a much more serious impact in personal relationships because you start to rely on the people that love you to bail you out of poor decisions. If they don’t, then it starts to feel like they don’t love or care about you and now these relationships become transactional leading to a world of messes and twisted realities. Sometimes you have to shock people into realizing they have a problem and I think that’s why Pred “stepped” away. As far as OpTic not mentioning anything, in my opinion, I think they felt like it wasn’t their information to share. Pred needed to be the one to address it, not anyone within the org. It’s about taking accountability. Pred needed to do that before anyone else should talk on the situation. The only person who fully knows what’s going on with Pred, is Pred. If anyone else spoke about it, it would have just led to more speculation, more narratives and more drama-bait headlines and talking points.

Being said that he's dropped cause of a sponsor. You don't do that to your player for any sponsor. You drop the sponsor. If that's true then it's truly the greedwall. With what you said, this sounds more like a gambling problem more than ever. PR wise I think this is very different from Maniac's situation since OpTic isn't sponsored by a pharmaceutical so openly helping Maniac was acceptable, but they are sponsored by a gambling company and to have one of their players have a gambling problem is a bad look to that company and the "hobby" of gambling.
