Im 12 now and I've been building these motors for people since I was 9 or 10 and right now im build a briggs flathead for somebody, and a gx200 with a nitrous injection going in my mud dragster

$200 to build it, (labor) but he wants someone to buy the stock engine ($99), plan the build, buy the parts (w/ shipping, $400-$500), build it and then ship it to him($?)... I'd say $800.00 min

I did my Hisun 196 similar except a Tillotson Pk1b, PVL flywheel, 8 degree key (36 total), Autolite plug (said to decrease chamber cc), CS cam and 22# springs. That girl can eat, I'll tell you what! She puts 15HP down with a TAV 30. Sounds dumb flat out. There's a walk around on my channel.

Is there a way to set the billet fly wheel without a timing gun??
@KeithDoerr8 жыл бұрын
The flywheel is set with a "key" like the clutch, to the crankshaft.
@icelover37 жыл бұрын
This is not accurate. I can verify this. The cast screw holes for the magneto on these predator and clone blocks aren't always right. I hooked a timing gun up to mine and it was way off. To get it to 32 degrees BTDC (what my F275 cam called for) I had to ditch the key and just keep slightly moving the flywheel and keep re checking the timing with my gun.

@ianbuilds77128 жыл бұрын
um u do not need the flywheel or rod until the engine is capable of breaking 5000rpm... and with stock valve springs it is just not a possibility. it's cool to have but I got a pred with all kinds of mods but the stock springs just won't let it go fast enough to break. the highest I've seen is 5010rpm and been beating her for 2 years hard.
@ianbuilds77128 жыл бұрын
stock rod will break at 6k after about 4 hrs constant(with oiling mods even higher for longer)and is tested to 5.. I've seen billet rods taken well over 7 never ever seen or heard of one breaking

nicely done, you know your stuff. I was wondering if you will use a flywheel timing advance key ? I like the build and the posting of the part numbers. if it runs rich you will dial in the jets. don't give away all of the secrets. best of luck

looks like you have about 500 into that by now, maybe a honda might have been a better choice, please comment
@brianboyee89725 жыл бұрын
NOPE~ then he would have 700 into it and less cc’s and also have to buy an $80 NR racing rev limiter defeater
@KeithDoerr11 жыл бұрын
about $400 and I'm very happy with the Predator. My other choices would be a BSP race ready or an B&S Animal, but dollar for dollar a predator is a good one to learn how to build on. Next build will be a better carburetor, flattop piston(compression), more rod (stroke), and better valve train components, add another couple hundred...

Leave the stroke where it is, gains are much more easily gained elsewhere without sacraficing rpm and longievity

@Keith Doerr So what you're saying is that if line the fly wheel up in the slot it will be fine? I was nervous because I see people using timing guns with the billet fly wheels
@KeithDoerr8 жыл бұрын
Keys come in offset degrees so if need 4 degrees before tdc you use the offset. You do need to set the coil gap, with a standard gap gage.

I stopped watching when he measured a +/-.0005" tolerance with a $5 digital caliper. I used those calipers in machining for screw hole depths which generally have a tolerance of .005 or .010". To accurately measure round parts you must use a micrometer. I could probably measure to .0005" with my $120 Browne & Sharpe caliper but I wouldn't even pick it up if a mic is close.
@MudGoingUphill8 жыл бұрын
Fyi those $5 calipers are only good for +/- .002 if you get a good one. Some of them have as much as .001" difference between the base and edge of the jaws because of the calipers low strength.
@ianbuilds77128 жыл бұрын
I've never used any measuring tool I've successfully put together many of these 4 strokes using billets or even swapping parts around the truth of the matter is these type of engines including Briggs and genuine honda gx all have higher tolerances than any cheap mic.. we're not working on precision stuff here. that being said I do use plasti guage if swapping around conrods
@icelover37 жыл бұрын
Higher tolerances than any cheap mic? Huh? That made no sense. And I disagree, this is precision stuff man if you're crank journal is too big, you will seize up the engine.

Very nice build don't mean to be a smart ass or criticize but i wouldn't trust those clutches they get the job done, but wont handle the high rpms they begin to vibrate really bad. Also did u balance the crank I've seen a lot a people crack their blocks because of so much vibration.Get a tillston you wont be disappointed the 304 or 334wx are great carbs.
@KeithDoerr10 жыл бұрын
***** I'm not racing, it's just a backyard bomber. But even so, I have had it up to 50 briefly and so far no clutch problems. So, this was a budget build - a how far can I go with all cheep parts? ie: Motovox roller, Predator 212, and only what I need to have for a small "cam build"... p.s. I don't trust those clutches, or rods, or flywheels, or lifters, or springs, or gaskets, or....nuts n bolts...or..

That depends on what you would want done. This engine cost $100 stock and I put about $400 into it. Why not build it yourself? Top speed (so far) is 53.5mph

I really don't want to break your spirit, but shipping it would just cost to much to be worthwhile. Also, if you ever need to repair one you'll need to know how a small engine works. You need to do this yourself. Make it a hobby, a couple hours a week is all it takes. It'll be fun and learning how will be worthwhile...

$120 motor with $1000 upgrades why not just put a 2 stroke Dirtbike engine on the mini bike or go kart and have 10x the power
@Deucealive757 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Best thing to do is re jet, give it more air and get a better spark plug for about $30 and run them. Who wants to spend $200+ on parts for an engine to get 1000 more rpm's or so? And in many cases more money on parts than the mini bike is worth in the first place.

Ok, I called ARC to settle this argument and was directed to "the" guy who knows about rods at ARC. He said, "every billet rod is tested for 60 hrs at 12,500 rpms before leaving the shop." Hard to believe, but true. I concede to MHx14, good call. ARC also said, with these engines (clones) even fully built, (alcy, etc.) you'll never get above about 9,000 - 9,100 rpms, and that most stock rods will give up around 6200 - 6500, w/ predator 212's (big piston) at 6,000. Call ARC Tech (229) 435-2647
