Thanks for this! I'm not a mechanic at all but wanted to get a little more juice out of a new Predator 6.5hp for my kids. Before the modifications, our steel frame go-cart would max out at 9mph. After following these instructions we just hit 26mph! Definitely enough speed for beginners - thanks again!

A gearing change can get you to a good 35 or 40 after this bypass. For when they get a little older lol

Would this work for the vertical shaft engine also? I need to replace the engine on my Ride On Spreader. It needs to operate a centrifugal clutch like a minibike/gocart. Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but I need my governor in my application. Matter of fact I need it to respond much more quicker than it does. Been experimenting some but still moderately slow at responding the way I need it to. Any suggestions would be of great appreciation. I understand that at engine rest , throttle is fully opened till engine starts in which the governor pulls back on the throttle slowing the engine to a preset position . In my case at 3200 rpms. Once a load is applied depending the amount of load, engine just pulls down and governor doesn't respond for a few seconds . If it's a lite load, governor doesn't respond at all to increase engine speed back to 3200 rpms or at least close. My engine is the predator 670cc V-Twin 22 hp. Other than this governor issue, engine runs great.

So you leave the governor installed but you took it off?? I'm confused! I've seen so many videos where they have to go inside the engine to remove governor. I'm just trying to figure this out

RedDevil ent. I think what he’s doing is bypassing the governer so it wouldn’t have the exact same result as removing the whole thing. Just a guess tho

well, yes and no. the internal governor is a plastic gear with weights in it, as the rpms increase the weights push something out and it pushes the governor rod from going 100% throttle. so I you just bypass it you have the same effect as removing the governor but if you just remove the governor gear inside the engine you wont have to mess around with any other throttle linkage stuff.

Yes I believe so. All of the Predator engines under 459cc have the same design.

In the video at 2:11 he sets the throttle assembly out of the way. On that part there is an adjustment screw. You can change the stock RPM with that screw. Back it out for higher max rpm and turn it in for less max RPM.

@@TheEliteAnimalOn the throttle assembly. On some new mini bikes like the Coleman they are welding that screw so it can't be adjusted. People are cutting the threads off with a Dremel for more rpm.

I race mini bikes and do small engine repair for a living and build fully after market engines from bone stock to racing machines . You can't leave that arm and gear in there it hits the Rod gotta take it out and put a self tapping bolt in there

Josh Schroeder I think I watched this video and then learned what your saying the hard way. The engine wouldnt run correctly and made a weird tapping then the next time I went to pull it to start it, it stopped it dead in its tracks, it wasnt siexed like I can crank it backwards to a point but it would crank normally then hit something and not move anymore, is that the rod hitting the governor gear? How would I fix that?

Valve float will start at about 6200rpm

Yes, yes it will. It is plastic and is not designed to exceed the rpms that the engine is capable of. Remove the gear. Its a good way to learn about your engine anyway.

@@khonky Its really easy to disable the governor. Its a lot harder to bypass it though. To disable it just open up the engine and hammer off the plastic wheel.

This does not remove the govenor, this is just bypassing the govenor arm. The governor gear is still inside limiting the RPM to the governed limit set.

Not true. if the internal governor has no way of getting to the throttle butterfly it is deemed useless and it cant do anything.

Aaron, that may be brilliant - or it may be stupid. But it was sure poor doctoring - if you didn't teach us why you did any of this. 1) No before & after effect. 2) No explanation of your theory of the engineering involved. 3) No tactical theory either. 3-strikes you are OUT.
