They are declining because all.there habitats have dissapeared. Like south auckland. Bird sanctionaries like the superclinc and the vodaphone events centre are built on bird wetlands. But now they are developed. Also the last bush and much needed trees area by middlemore hospital has just been cleared. predators are not the only problem. Maybe if we still had trappers and rabitors maybe there might not be a pest problem in the first place Lets bring that industry back. And keep more bushlands in our main lands for conservation.

James, no mention of domesticated cats. They also kill birds, and it saddens me to the core, not just by the actions of the cat, but also by the dissactiin of the majority of their owners.. If you must let your cat outside, cat bibs can slow a cats kill pounce down, just enough to let birds escape. Its just a flap of neoprene hanging down from the neck, and almost trailing on the ground. The level of disconcern about this other predator problem astonishes me.
