Great video sir. I too tried the same conversion kit, only to have the same clearance issue. I just used the the plastic nipple that was cut off the back and inserted it on the side. Didn't think about the epoxy. Thanks for the video.

Great video and I’m so glad I found it. I have a newer 8750 also and had to make the modification to the air filter housing like you did. I did it a little different though. I cut the air intake “nipple” off the back and was able to reuse it. It is tapered (one end larger than the other) so I drilled the hole on the side of the housing just large enough to push the small section through from the inside of the air box to the outside. I actually used a heat gun to basically almost melt the area around the hole to make it “pliable” enough to force the nipple through and snug up tight. I also used my Dremel to shave a little extra area off the back of the housing to make it fit right and used JB Weld to plug up the hole where the original problem nipple was. Again, so glad I found your video. I probably wouldn’t have attempted the work around(s) IF I hadn’t!!! 👏👏👍👍

Don’t forget about the generator safety rules: Always make sure you follow all the generator safety rules whenever you use your portable generator. This is only a reminder. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. It is important to keep your children safe especially little ones. The portable generator can be hot during an operation. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. Nice video, 2 questions. Why are you using 4.5-5.5kw carb on a 7.0-8.75kw generator? Have you tested under a heavy load to see if it's capable of max wattage still?

I bought the predator 9000 a few months ago I have been looking to convert to Natural gas. your description says dual But also says cng is that natural gas from my house? Also another company selling the Carburetor said I need a new air Box for $24 You show how to adapt the original one thanks I have been looking all over you tube you are the only one who addressed this Thanks for a great video

Hi Michael, you are correct the same carburetor can do LPG and CNG. That said, I’m not 100% sure about home natural gas but it should work. It all has to do with the pressure of the gas and since the carburetor can work with both low pressure and compressed natural gas that means it should work. I would try it and if it doesn’t work right away you may just need a variable pressure regulator at your natural gas line to dial it in. I hope this helps.

LP gas pressure should be 11inches of water column. Natural gas should be 3.5 inches of water column.

I have a brand new predator 9000 with 7200 running watts. I'm going to install this dual fuel kit. My question is this... doesn't the new carburetor have a propane regulator already attached to it? If so, why is it necessary to also have a regulator at the propane supply tank? Won't that reduce the pressure even lower to the point the engine rpms may drop significantly? I had a propane patio heater with a built-in regulator and I had to use a supply line without a regulator before it would work.

There is no regulator on the new carb kit. You need one on the tank.

Ok, here is the right answer. Nat gas to your house is already regulated to low pressure. Propane from a tank is high pressure until you install a regulator on the tank just like for a gas grill. Now you have low pressure propane available. The diaphragm/regulator on the carb does a final regulation but its main role is to “carburete” or meter in the gas based on the inlet manifold vacuum pulses. It is critical not to assume the “regulator” on the carb is to reduce high pressure propane to low pressure. Use a proper regulator on the tank to do that. See the video where there is a typical regulator on the tank. The unit on the carb will also stop gas flow when engine stops as it is no longer receiving vacuum pulses. It just stays closed. When using propane or NG do not use the choke. That is only for gasoline.

Did you just cut the 5/16" LP hose and stick it on the barn with a hose clamp?

Originally yes just to test it and it works fine. Later on I ran a short piece of LP tubing to a quick disconnect and clamped it to the generator frame. So now I have a quick disconnect on the tank and the generator which makes it a breeze to connect.

How did you make a quick connect with the barb fitting on there? I believe that barb is pressed on. I have the same kit and the fitting doesn’t have threads on it.

I just converted my HF 4375 212 cc generator to propane. Cost was around $55.00. My generator was from California(got out) and it has an evaporative canister. I removed that and plugged the intake fitting to the air cleaner box. The original carb has a return spring on the throttle . The new carb and all photos I’ve seen do not have that spring. I eventually I went with no spring. I’m not talking about the throttle arm which is long with a thin spring. Safety issue guys! If you are converting to propane and have the fuel line still connected to the gas tank shutoff valve the possibility of opening the gasoline valve is high and if the gas tank is empty it could easily fill with propane gas and that could explode. Plug the gasoline fill hose to prevent this. Leave written info about the line being plugged if gasoline is no longer being used. The current setup with the 2 different fuel lines sharing the carb is not safe when all the lines are open . Don’t count on a cheap aluminum shutoff valve to stay closed and keep you safe. I’m still looking at a better way to block propane flow from the carb back to the gasoline tank. Anyway my 2 cents worth on converting.

Hi Thomas, yes the wires run to the fuel shutoff solenoid on the carburetor. Often called an “anti-backfire solenoid”. Cheers!

@@lindotech8204 ok thanks just word of advice be sure to shut off the gasoline /Petro at the tank when not in use them solenoids are known to get stuck stay open and allow the fuel to gravity feed into engine block mix with the motor oil. And most lawn tractors also.I have predator 420 motor in my golf cart it has happened twice on me. Symptoms are heavy smell of gasoline/Petro in the air . Oil on dip stick is like water smell of gas . Tapping sounds from the motor when running. It can do heavy damage to the motor.

Hi Adrian, The run time will depend mostly on the load so I’m not 100% sure about a 20lb tank. I only used the 20lb for testing. Does this conversion result in lower engine RPMs? In my case Honda gen with same engine runs at about 3440-3480 rpm not 3600. Contacted the company that sells the kits about this and no answer! Curious if others that did this conversion have the same problem and what the solujtion might be.

Be careful that the motor is not running lean. An adjustable regulator at the propane tank may dial it in but you risk burning up the motor if you run it lean.

the little switch on the bottom left of where the 'prime" button is was set at the "off" position. what does this switch do? does it switch between NG and LP?

The on/ off switch drains the gasoline from the carb float bowl before transitioning to propane. Also the brass turn screw above the prime button adjusts the propane mixture. I just got one of these kits and am planning on installing with a quick connect, but am looking for a clean way to mount the male quick connect end.

I just installed this kit. Seems to work just fine, but I have one issue. I checked everywhere for leaks, but whenever the gas cylinder is open, I can hear propane hissing into the carburator and it doesn't stop unless l close the cylinder valve. Is my kit defective or is this normal?

I'll let you know when I can try it! I think vacuum from the engine moves the diaphragm which opens a valve to let gas in. I would think it should shut the gas off (mostly) without vacuum from the engine.

@@shuumai I purchased the regulator recommended by Amazon as frequently ordered by those who buy this model of tri fuel carburator. It allows far more fuel flow than what's necessary to run the generator, but even the lowest settings is still enough to keep the gas flowing. It doesn't mean much to me. I have no intention to keep the regulator open or tank connected when not in use. I did purchase a second carburator thinking the first was defective. It's exactly the same and has the same issue. It's always nice to have a backup. I once owned a propane powered forklift and commercial size generator. And l presently own a generac propane generator attached to my home. None of them had or have this issue. My only complaint is the total lack of documentation available. Take care, and double check all connections for leaks ( including the carburator gaskets ) before the first startup. You can never be too careful.

@@BonannoCM mine is not flowing propane while the generator is off. Unless I just can't hear it. The generator is running better on propane than gasoline at this point! I think it has a jet issue. I'm also starting to suspect that the plastic spacer might be causing at air leak.

@@AllanLindo-t2n the only big difference (so far!) is the choke. The newer 8750 has the choke actuator on the front panel. On the older model, the choke is turned on with the black lever on the carb. It is possible that the unit would work without the lever on the carb. Might be able to connect the new one. The new one has a cable the attaches to the choke on the carb with a screw. I’ve sent email to Hipa but no response yet! ( Friday afternoon west coast) I ordered the one described on your video and Amazon says it will arrive 2/28. I’ll see if I can make it work, if not, it’s returnable! But thanks for the video!

Hi for anybody watching this and there generator is failing to start or it runs badly on propane . Open the propane bottle very slowly there is a needle valve or something in the regulator on the bottle and it can lead you to think there is something wrong with your generator ,when its a safety device built into the regulator on the gas bottle side when you turn on the propane to fast 👍👍
