it doesnt even have to be wild dogs. I live in the country where theres no leash laws. My neighbors lets their hunting dogs run loose at night and as a free range guinea fowl farmer it doesnt end well for me. Ive lost almost my whole flock to those dogs, down to my last two, thankfully a male and female.

10 years or so back I used to hunt a lot of ferals in QLD, including dogs. I set up trail cams a few days out to see which water holes they went to first thing every morning. Up here they often ran in packs (bob tails). When I found their water hole I would go in and get in position around 4AM and wait. I would ID the alpha male and take it out first. The others would not know what to do and hang around long enough for me to pick then off. I used a .243 Weatherby Vanguard on a bi-pod. Average range was 70-100 metres.

"Boring as batshit". I love it. Is that an Australian expression or is it unique to you? I found your channel last week and watch as many of your videos as I can. I like your explanations, and you certainly can turn a phrase. Here in the States, wild hogs, foxes and coyotes are a real problem, and they are hunted constantly because of all the damage they do to property and livestock. And of course, there are those who cannot abide killing those poor creatures. They do not educate themselves about the harm caused by these animals. Thank you for the great content.

I think it's just Aussie slang that one 😂. Really glad you enjoy the video's, great to hear. We have many issues with these introduced species in Australia. There's definitely people who have not taken the time to understand the "why" and just think it's all mindless shooting. Couldn't be further from the truth although I absolutely enjoy my hunting and work.

Hey Nate, noob questions here - do you set the scope at 200m when you have setup the overwatch spot, and then back it off to 100m for night, or on the scope do you know where to aim lower/higher depending on range, or finally, is bullet drop not that important with that particular type of weapon?

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK thank you brother, I might just have to get the day timeskill level up o speed for the time being…! Last question; I have recently saw a dog wander out of some scrub not far from my bolt hole up in the sticks. 100-150m from the house. He was scenting, scanning then retreated, I figured I’d get ready to have a crack on the 3rd night at sunset but as you’d expect, that opportunity didn’t present. What would be you best couple of whistles/brands that might coax him out?
