it doesnt even have to be wild dogs. I live in the country where theres no leash laws. My neighbors lets their hunting dogs run loose at night and as a free range guinea fowl farmer it doesnt end well for me. Ive lost almost my whole flock to those dogs, down to my last two, thankfully a male and female.

10 years or so back I used to hunt a lot of ferals in QLD, including dogs. I set up trail cams a few days out to see which water holes they went to first thing every morning. Up here they often ran in packs (bob tails). When I found their water hole I would go in and get in position around 4AM and wait. I would ID the alpha male and take it out first. The others would not know what to do and hang around long enough for me to pick then off. I used a .243 Weatherby Vanguard on a bi-pod. Average range was 70-100 metres.

"Boring as batshit". I love it. Is that an Australian expression or is it unique to you? I found your channel last week and watch as many of your videos as I can. I like your explanations, and you certainly can turn a phrase. Here in the States, wild hogs, foxes and coyotes are a real problem, and they are hunted constantly because of all the damage they do to property and livestock. And of course, there are those who cannot abide killing those poor creatures. They do not educate themselves about the harm caused by these animals. Thank you for the great content.

I think it's just Aussie slang that one 😂. Really glad you enjoy the video's, great to hear. We have many issues with these introduced species in Australia. There's definitely people who have not taken the time to understand the "why" and just think it's all mindless shooting. Couldn't be further from the truth although I absolutely enjoy my hunting and work.

@tidelovinyankee1368 When those bleeding hearts get on a hunting channel, and then cry and rant all about it? They'd be 'having a sook' mate. 'Spitting the dummy' as well. Our politicians are like yours, they are 'as bent as a dogs hind leg' cos they 'Couldn't lie straight in bed' the bar-stewards..

You are like a professional guide presenting an inspiring lesson in conservation .... except its animal pest control. Every time, it is always about the task ahead and the job that needs to be done. From eating on the job to getting the job done. I watch because of the no frills approach. There's a few others on KZbin like that. Condensing it all down to 15 minutes or less, super effort. A long comment to make up for my lack of comments

Hey Nate, noob questions here - do you set the scope at 200m when you have setup the overwatch spot, and then back it off to 100m for night, or on the scope do you know where to aim lower/higher depending on range, or finally, is bullet drop not that important with that particular type of weapon?

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK thank you brother, I might just have to get the day timeskill level up o speed for the time being…! Last question; I have recently saw a dog wander out of some scrub not far from my bolt hole up in the sticks. 100-150m from the house. He was scenting, scanning then retreated, I figured I’d get ready to have a crack on the 3rd night at sunset but as you’d expect, that opportunity didn’t present. What would be you best couple of whistles/brands that might coax him out?

Well done mate. Great info on the the effort involved in this type of pest management. Surprised the KFC even made it to the property. Maybe you had a tweeny on the the way out. 🤣

The Hunter Valley is looking green, which part of the HV do you shoot ?

I hunt all over the valley mate. Like to keep a little discretion and leave it at that 👍

@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK totally understand. Not been up to the HV for around 8 years. I used to install coal train loading systems up around the Singleton mines. It’s a lot greener than my last visit….straight shooting mate 😃

People don't realise just how much damage cats and dogs can do to wild life and farm animals I've a great believe that cats and dogs should be kept in at night.

Did you swap the scope from glass to thermal on the 6BR in field? Or did you take two rifles? Just curious how you would swap scopes in the field and know that’s it’s zeroed. Cheer, good hunting as well.

@EDGEoftheOUTBACK 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely I swapped the scope in the paddock. Carried the thermal gear in. I just use really good rings and return to zero has been excellent 👌

Mosquitoes are bad this year. What do you use to help you cope with them?
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK 2 жыл бұрын
Just Bushmans red can spray. When they are this thick the buggers find all sorts of gaps to bit you on/around/through and under. I hate them 😩

Another great instructional video mate regarding tactics and methodology when hunting the feral wild dogs. The dirty bird does cop a flogging as your snack of choice. 👍🏻

Ive always been a pretty good shot with small calibre stuff like .22 and air rifle, but pretty inexperienced with the bigger gear. How you think i can get more experienced without spending bulk coin?
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK Жыл бұрын
You don't need to spend a coin if you can shoot well with a PCP 👌. They take more control with follow through than a centrefire.
