Thank you so much. I have been struggling with how to cut the hardware fence on the corners and still have it overlap. You explained it perfectly. I'm all set for tomorrow!

Racoons and some dogs can tear right thru chicken wire. I'm using discarded chain link fence.

Hey thanks, coming from a coop builder that means a lot!

Great idea with the wire mesh, I did something similar on my greenhouse to keep out ground squirrels and am going to do the same thing of the coop that I am building for predators.
@JoeSimple4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, how's that working? Luckily I don't have any ground squirrels those things are a pain.

I liked the tips about the burst on the cable. So true . Took all the cable I had on the ranch to the metal recycle a couple of years ago. Would have had a use for it. Maybe rope would work.

Burrs not burst.

Dang you put a lot of thought into it.

Yes sir, I think I went a little overboard.
@valerie751042 жыл бұрын
Never overboard! We've lost so many to different predators. Its disheartening after spending so much time on their well being from chicks.

I'm wondering how you made out through the summer/fall fires
@JoeSimple4 жыл бұрын
So far so good, still not out of the woods yet. Forecast is calling for first rain mid next month. Our county and surrounding had some fairly large fires. but our local fire agencies are next level professionals. I see you are subbed to Blancolirio he is in our county and gives great local info. how about you?
@brucemcmillan87504 жыл бұрын
@@JoeSimple We had a summer of cold weather and rain ,one fire over next to Alaska for about 10 days. most of our fire fighting planes and crews went south into BC, Oregon,Montana and possibly Calif.. I'm up here in the Yukon

Racoons seem to be our biggest problem in Missouri. They are a bigger animal and crafty enough to work out problems. They can dig and work locks. The other problem is hawks here and we can't free range on our property, though others near us do.
@JoeSimple Жыл бұрын
Interesting, I would take a look at what the others have around there property that are allowing them to have free range. covered chicken tractors, dogs, forested areas , geese, ducks, raccoon bait(I.E.trash, compost). I am studying permaculture and am starting open my eyes to the coexistence of systems on our property. and how even predators can play a role in our homesteads. let me know what you think?
@American_Made Жыл бұрын
yes, for sure. the racoons are like the free trashmen. They play a very necessary part in keeping things cleaned up. WE have deer regularly too and we just feed them and for most part they only get in our garden from time to time. Next year we will be enclosing our garden with 8 foot high poles and electric fence. I will still plant some areas for the deer though. pretty sure our cats are killing mice regularly and then they leave them dead outside and I think the coons clean those up too. I'm finishing up a new coop now that will be all enclosed hardware wire for our 8 chickens, it's 12x6 with a single pitched metal roof@@JoeSimple I will be placing it in a semi permanent spot and putting the hardware cloth around it on the ground. Our one neighbor I think had a roster and does have a lot of tree cover, he also has a couple big male Turkeys so maybe they help dissuade predators. lots of coyotes around, we hear them all over at night, but don't see them in our yard, at least when we are awake.

I used the same method for the viewing it was such a pain in the ass but I used a bunch of cables that weren't needed in the end.
@DMills-un1tl3 жыл бұрын
Using the cable or running everything up to a high pole at the center point is what I plan to do for my cat run. Birds of prey are as dangerous as coyotes here in AZ.
