A 3D Mario game that takes a Breath of the Wild approach would be sick. You can go anywhere when you leave the tutorial, between platforming sections you can use Plessy for water like Bowsers Fury, a kart for fields, and a clown car for skies. Also, they could do a form of fast travel where you unlock paintings for places youve been that are all in peaches castle.

My thoughts, It will probably be 2027 by the time we have a new 3D Mario with galaxy in 07 and Odyssey in 17 but then again, one is in the works and they could release it later this year or else in early 2026 (would make perfect sense to do it then seeing as it'll be the 30th anniversary of 64 in 26) A new Mario kart would be welcome and given how popular recent ones are, it would make perfect sense to have it as a launch title for the new console whenever that may be. Around September there will probably be collabs and limited time/edition products and merch and maybe a few surprises so we'll see what happens around then.

A new 3D Mario and a new Mario Kart are a must. Ideally New Super Mario Bros All Stars to satisfy our 2D fix. I also wouldn't mind a Paper Mario All Stars at some point. If a new 3D Mario is coming out this year we probably won't get Galaxy 2 or 3D Land, hopefully next year. Also Luigi's Mansion or Luigi's Mansion 4. Someday I also wouldn't mind seeing Super Mario Bros All Stars HD with all the NES and SNES games in HD.

In terms of games, 3D Mario and Mario Kart 9 are a must. I like the idea of a New Super Mario collection and a new sports game but besides that I think that’s where they’ll stop for games. Actually, Mario had hos 40th anniversary in 2021. He debuted in the arcades under the name "Jumpman" in Donkey Kong back in June of 1981. And Luigi also had his 40th anniversary in 2023. He debuted in the arcades as well. Mario Bros. in August 1983. 2013, which was the Year of Luigi, celebrated his 30th anniversary.

I think the next Mario Kart would make for an amazing launch title for the Switch2, but something that I think would be cool is a New Super Mario Bros. All Stars. We already got NSMBU on the Switch and will be playable on the Switch2 cause of backwards compatibility, so why not go ahead and bring over the rest as a special to celebrate 40 years. People who grew up on this series is basically all adults now so you know they'd be wanting to get that nostalgia in, I know I would easily buy it.

Random prediction: we’re gonna get a trailer for a new 3d mario game. BUT it will be heavily inspired by Japan, stuff like mythology and traditional Japanese architecture . And it will have a very realistic art style that will look really weird, and this will lead to controversy videos with thumbnails that will say in big bold red writing “this is NOT Mario” and there will be a bunch of memes about how weird the game is. And the trailer will be a fake out at the beginning of the 40th anniversary direct. It will start with a Japanese narrator talking about legends from an old book… then it will show a strange mural in the final page which will have a big out of place looking red M on it. I know this a very strange prediction but just trust me it’ll happen….

I was just playing Bowser’s Fury and Shadow Generations and thinking I didn’t WANT Mario to be like Sonic’s open world structure because I don’t like linear levels in an open world game. Odyssey handled it better with mini worlds but I’d much rather JUST have the Platforming challenges in the open world no switching to some separate world for a 30 second challenge. It’s repetitive, annoying, and restricting in an open setting.

A new 3D Mario Game for The Switch 2 is incredibly likely for 2025. Although I’d love to see the Original New Super Mario Bros Games in a trilogy collection for Switch 1 would be also great.
