Tim's Rhaena bad baysitter theory makes so much sense to me but maybe that's just because I'm also an eldest sibling xD I like to see Rhaenyra having a grey character moment, blaming Rhaena out of grief, and Daemon being a dad for once. If we can't have Nettles, at least give us some complex character moments, please... I wonder if Hugh's arc will be his continuation of losing faith in the government (first Aegon then Rhaenyra and then the greens again till he loses hope). Which will be what drives him to become the one in charge. The blacks and greens are both disappointing and maybe at his lowest point - losing his wife & turning cloak just to realise the greens are the same - the prophecy is presented to him as a calling to become a better ruler than the two terrible options they have.

For Nettles initial question; I honestly think something that made me feel something or change my perspective was Aegon as a person. I absolutely hated him in the books and watching him in the show. I don't feel that same hatred. I don't like him but I don't feel like I hate him anymore

And you know, I've seen people put their finger on EXACTLY why. He's the only one with human motivations, they're not great and he's certainly not a great person. But out of all members of house Targaryen, him and Jace are probably the only two who are fleshed out but are unruined by the stupid prophecy. Even though Jace literally knows about it now. It just did not factor into anything. Aegon doesn't, which made every single interaction with him come off as natural. The writing helped Tom out here, because he's "insignificant to prophecies" he made it out of King's landing with only "what should I do next" in mind. Not "what should I do next to either bring a prophecy into fruition, or avoid it altogether".

Alys knows the future. I don't think she actually deeply cares for a particular set of smallfolk. She cares about saving humanity from the Others, this is how I see her goal with everything she did with Daemon. Her telling him about women and children suffering because of him and William is one of the ways through which she gets through to him - he might be a monster, but he got onto his hero journey this season, and this is part of it. If Alys' concern were indeed the lives of the smallfolk here and now, she wouldn't be trying to get Daemon back to Rhaenyra knowing what Rhaenyra will become and how much death and destruction is going to follow in this war. If she wanted to save the realm from the atrocities of the war, she would have poisoned Daemon and Aemond on sight. That's not her agenda. Instead, she kills an innocent old man to ascertain that the war continues with Daemon getting his army. For some reason it is clearly paramount that both Daemon and Aemond, alongside their dragons, die at God's Eye. Why I don't know, trees drinking the blood, whatever. She now has Daemon where she wants him - he completely bought into the prophecy and will be ready to die when the time comes, whatever the actual motivation in the plot will be. Now she has to somehow convince Aemond to face his uncle, when he knows that he will die at this location. How do you do that? Well, what will Aemond think when he meets a witch with weird powers? "She might help me avoid the fate Haelena told me about". Self-fulfilling prophecy. Alys needs Aemond to trust her completely, so she would play along, seduce him, make him fall in love with her which will not be difficult with his preference in women, his emotional instability and his hope to cheat death through her magic. If she needs to allow him to kill thousands of people to make him trust her, she will - for the "greater good". I don't think she will love him, she will use him and his insecurities to get him where she needs him. I'm also curious to see what will become of him having Aegon the Conquerer's dagger - will he find out about the prophecy? Will he think that he himself or his child with Alys is the Prince that was Promised? There are so many things they can add here to make him fall into the deadly trap. Bottom line is, when he gets an invite from Daemon to come fight at Harrenhal, he will believe that he will win and survive despite what Haelena said, and of course this is exactly what gets him killed. Alys will have accomplished her mission. Of course, there is a way to make him embrace his death for some grander purpose. It is possible, be it through the prophecy, or by invoking regret for what he did to Aegon, or what not. But a) we already have one character who went through the "therapy" of Harrenhal and became a different man, we don't need a repitition; b) it would be difficult to reconcile with the burning of 30 towns and is frankly not necessary; and c) there is a fundamental difference between Daemon and Aemond. Daemon was solely to blame for all his mistakes, crimes, grudges. No one has ever spited him, or harmed him. His brother loved and protected him, Rhaenyra loves him, Laena loved him. It was his hubris, ambition, failure of character that led him to push away the people who loved him. He imagined all the slites against him. And so showing him visions of his loved ones to force him to confront his demons worked - he learned the lesson, he understood that he is to blame for all of his failures. That will not work on Aemond because his grievances aren't imagined. Show him Viserys, and he will remember how his father neglected him, or took Rhaenyra's side after he lost his eye. Show him Alicent, and he will remember how she scolded him for obsessing over his dragonlessness, or overall what a shit mother she is. Show him Aegon, and he will remember how his brother bullied him, or was generally an idiot unworthy of the crown. Etc, etc. If anything, such a "therapy" would only convince him further that yeah, he is right about all of his grudges. And Alys could use this against him to create an "us against the whole world" scenario in which she is the only one he trusts blindly, which is exactly what she needs to get him to God's Eye. This was a long way of saying that I don't think there is any issue here, with how they will make the relationship between Alys and Aemond work, I think all the seeds for both characters have been planted. It will fascinating to see how exactly they are going to execute it, but I don't see any major obstacles.

Well, if it's company and human connection that she wants, then a perfect candidate is on his way - also lonely and desperate for human connection. Maybe we all are overthinking it, and their story will be much simpler. Or maybe even tragic with her trying to "fix him", for lack of a better term, but then giving up when he commits his war crimes and she understands she must sacrifice him. I mean, tbh, I think all paths are open, they just need to write whatever it is going to be well. And hopefully Ewan and Gayle have chemistry.

If the ultimate goal is to getting Daemon and Aemond above the Gods-Eye, why would Aemond have to have any kind of awakening? She had to work with Daemon to get him to accept his role and fate but with Aemond, she would just need to cultivate his hate, anger, arrogance, and confidence. Am I missing something?

He’s very emotionally driven as well. We see this emotion several times. When he smoked Luke, also aegon and sunfyre,the queen who never was, when he fired his mom when he grabbed helana. no matter what helana told him, his ego, pride and emotion is something he’s struggling to keep in check , keep in mind these are human beings and everything isn’t so straightforward. I believe that Alicent lied to Rhaenyra about Aegon. She and Larys have the same Master of Secret Travel. She took her Guard and went on a little camping trip for an alibi. All of her people will have alibis for where they were when Queen Alicent was missing. Larys is master of Whispers, and Iron Rod obviously knows nothing about Larys plans. Orwile knows, but he makes sure to ask as little as possible, Tyland is off on a ship, Criston is at war, Otto is missing, and the money is gone. Alicent can say she was unaware of all this since she took a vacation. She’s hoping that Rhaenyra’s ass on the Iron Throne will be enough.

I hope that's true because then it would keep up w/the political intrigue more, but they haven't verified any of that w/even one scene. Hopefully they can confirm it next season by some sort of dialogue b/t Alicent and Larys or someone. I feel like we as the fans have to fill in more just to make things believable, yet the show spends so much time beating us over the head w/other concepts. I miss the GOT intrigue!

Re Rhaena's "guilt" for Viserys being kidnapped, you have to ask exactly what difference she could have made if she'd been on the same ship when it was captured BY A FLEET OF PIRATES. At best she'd have been kidnapped too, and at worst... the worst. Having said that, I totally recognise Tim's point about the reaction of parents in this situation.

I think Rhaenyra will tell her their kiss was a mistake, she will be seen closer than ever to Daemon under Myseria's eyes, maybe he will be taking her place by counciling Rhaenyra. My crazyass theory about Nettles and Rhaena storyline in the show: Rhaena claims Sheepstealer and pretends to be some low born girl (Nettles) and unexpectedly joins the Battle of the Gullet. She won't meet Rhaenyra or her council in person so they won't know her true identity. Later on, Daemon will meet her and when he finds out the real identity of "Nettles", they'll start spending time together, giving rise to the rumours that they are having an affair (when it was actually just quality father-daughter bonding time). All throughout this, people might believe Rhaena is still in the Vale or that she is dead or lost or something. Then once the war is over, Rhaena will re-surface again as herself. Sheepstealer would likely have died by then and then she would hatch Morning.

My overall thoughts on Season 2 are that it was good, despite a few mishaps. It's clear that two episodes were cut, which is a damn shame, and some of the writing is a bit questionable. However, it remains a beautifully crafted, slow-paced, character-focused season, which I love. Let’s not forget how we complained in Season 1 about the pace being too fast and wanting more time with the characters. Daemon and Rhaenyra were handled very well, in my opinion. Daemon, especially at Harrenhal, had both political depth and a character deep dive. Rhaenyra, on the other hand, mirrors Viserys with her dithering and indecisiveness, and their relationship echoes the dynamic between Daemon and Viserys. The slower pace also introduced us to Simon Strong and Gwayne Hightower, who were welcome additions. Visually, the season was stunning, with a decent amount of spectacle in Episodes 4 and 8. I’ll leave it there, as the negatives are already well-discussed and easy to find.

On the Tim prediction of the severity of Rhaenyra’s reaction, I (as an older sibling to TWO younger siblings) agree with him 100%. I can’t see how Nettles thinks Rhaenyra, having lost Luke, fearing for Jace (if not lost Jace already) AND dealing with all out war plus the clusterfuck left for her at King’s Landing, would NOT go ballistic and be just like “bad babysitter but I forgive you”. She would be PISSED. And Rhaena not being her biological daughter means she could go off on her in a way she maybe wouldn’t were it one of her own who fucked up, dragon or no dragon. Pretty sure Rhaenyra does not place the value of a dragon equal (especially a wild and unpredictable one), let alone higher, to that of her children.

I would 100% agree with you if it went like this: The plan is to go to the Vale only and stay there. Rhaena: let’s change the plan and go on some boats! Rhaena: I know it was my idea to change the plan and go on boats. But I’m leaving yall to your own devices. That’s when I could see Rhaenyra blaming Rhaena. Because her decision to send the kids on boats changed the story. In the books no one is blamed for the battle of the gullet. Because it’s an accident and a tragedy. I think the same thing will happen. Daemon would be elated that his daughter was saved and show Rhaenyra would be too because she’s perfect and emotionally intelligent. I think that the scenario you’re thinking of would be appropriate if this was a story about Rhaenyra being toxic, hateful, evil stepmother trailer trash type stuff… but the show has shown us that Rhaenyra loves everyone, and treats everyone with respect. She also thinks long and hard about everything before she makes a decision. She also forgives quickly and absolutely. I’m the first born grandchild of 21 grandchildren. We were all raised together. I would get home from school and get a whoopin if any of the younger kids did something bad. Even if I wasn’t there! It was unfair. I was responsible for every action. Not the parents. I understand the responsibility and burden of being first born. That doesn’t mean that every situation has to have someone to blame. When big tragedies happen like plane crashes, people are greatful for life. I think there might be a moment of “where were you?” and then it turns into “I’m so happy you’re alive and safe. And thank you for bringing a dragon to our cause”

Yeah the Writer's Strike meant nobody could write or do story edits. It's typical to have a writer or several on set to make adjustments on the fly, say if something isn't working out or an actor is sick or whatever. That couldn't happen during the strike. If you're a member of the WGA (Writer's Guild of America) you would lose your standing in the guild forever if you broke the strike, never work in the industry again. The last time this happened in 2007-2008, studios preyed on new young writers fresh out of school ... anyone who took that deal ended up blacklisted, even if they weren't in the guild yet. I was warned when I was in college that if a strike ever happened, to never take a deal and break a strike, no matter how good it sounded, because that would kill your career before it even began.

The Tullys go to a watery hall on the bottom of the river. The Crannhog men, The Fishers, The Muds they are all sweetwater squishers! They are rivermen! Even the Manderlys are named after a river. So ofcause there are mermen in the God's Eye as well! They are the Drowned God's! They are probably friends with the Green Men with their antlers and The Children of the Forest. The Civil War is an example where battlefield tactics had not yet caught up with recent advancements in weaponry. Rifling meant greater weapons accuracy and range resulting in massive casualties and panic under fire. A similar thing happened to armored knights and the advent of the crossbow. All that Full Plate was no longer as useful as it was before.

Crossbows mostly predate full plate armour and it is more likely that well crafted full plate offered significant protection against crossbowbolts compared to mail or coat of plates. Crossbows likely caused mail only protection to fall out of favour.

Re: Aemond x Alys. Have we considered that there may be a Morgan Le Fey aspect to this relationship, where even if Aemond and Alys are in moral opposition to each other, Alys may be searching for her own Mordred. In some version of Arthurian legends, Morgan wanted Arthur’s baby and coerced him into sleeping with her, producing Mordred. Maybe Alys wants the Targaryen baby that we know she births at the end of Fire and Blood as an end in itself for whatever witchy purpose. Sort of like how Melisandre produced the shadow baby with Stannis, sort of how kings blood is required for strong shadow magic. I also think Alys flying on Vhagar doing evil things could also be master propaganda, just like we always get with women of power. I don’t think they are going to cut the relationship with Aemond entirely, I side with Tim, Alys is going to do what she has to, either to survive or to purposefully have Aemond’s child. Additionally, Alys’ head trips may not work in Aemond because he is focused, he has purpose instead of just id like Daemon, and Aemond has grown up with Helaena’s gifts all his life.

About the Alys-Aemond thing, my theory is that either Alys could try to do with Aemond the same thing she did with Daemon or she is just going to feed his ego and his delusions and fan the fire of his anger, even if history paints her a villain, because is what must be done to steer him in the path that was forseen for him. Is very posible that Alys, like Haelena, knows Aemonds end; So maybe she'll go along with it because it might be the only way for the world to just be rid of him.

Re: Helaena’s death. If it isn’t someone trying to suck up to Rhaenyra, could it be Mysaria who pushes her? Helaena foresaw Blood and Cheese; she may also have foreseen that Mysaria was complicit in procuring their services. Maybe there is a confrontation of some sort. Or, alternatively, maybe Helaena stays alive until the storming of the Dragonpit and tries to either help Dreamfyre or meet her end with her. If dreams come from dragons, maybe losing Dreamfyre means losing her gifts and that’s a fate as bad as death for her. Or simple loyalty to her bond. I do r but that Helaena doesn’t like the dragons even if she doesn’t ride as much.

(sorry for spamming the comments) On Helaena - If we eventually get a Regency show (which we need), they're likely have Jaeherah getting pushed to her death by Unwin Peake, not that the HOTD producers either care or are thinking about a future Regency show. I think someone somewhere, maybe GRRM (who wants a full ASOIAF cinematic universe on HBO) would warn Ryan away from writing Helaena into getting pushed to her death. (because he wants to save someone getting pushed to their death for a future Regency show) I think that Helaena will be in a vision and she'll be so engrossed in the conversation / battle of some kind that she's having on the astral plane that she accidentally slips to her death, maybe after a psychic overload. Maybe time-travelling Bran distracted her by trying to contact her through the weirwood net haha.

The dirt smudge on Rhaena’s face confirms she’s claiming Sheepstealer as Nettles is described as filthy in F&B. Don’t love it but get the reasoning. They’re probably ending w/hour of the wolf so no Morning hatching, no cave dwelling in the Vale. Rhaena wouldn’t have much story. & Since Rhaena/Baela are brown skinned it takes away the anomaly of Nettles claiming SS. Non book readers wouldn’t understand the importance/reasoning for a random new character. They’d assume she’s a Targ bastard since they were just told you need Targ blood and the (possible) contradiction would take too much screen time to explain. I subscribe to Leaf = Nettles personally but even if they brought her in I doubt they’d have time to really indulge my head cannon. I think Nettles will be split in 3 parts: Alice did the RL stuff w/Daemon, Baela will fight in the Gullet & be upset, never fight again since she was already upset about the prospect of burning people. Rhaena will probably still be in the Vale running around wasting time. Kidding. I haven’t worked out her part yet but assume will be on the outs with Rhaenyra for the Gay Abandon. Maybe save Aegon like y’all talked about.

If they stick to the book, she’s not older but I think his attraction to her will be her ‘magic’, he’ll want someone to help him try to avoid Helaena’s vision. For her, I think she’s taking one for the team, pretending to be for him when really she knows Daemon is going to kill him, which needs to happen for the story. Yes, Daemon’s kids are alive but if Aemond somehow cheats death, he could have kids. Butterfly effect- could mess with the line they need to prevail.

I hope we are in Rhaenyra's head next season, see stuff she is seeing that leads to get paranoid and wary of Addam. Almost make us doubt if she is right or wrong, to really feel like her, like we can't trust anything or anybody at this point. Not all season, of course. I hate it when characters are said to be mad or paranoid but we as an audience are left outside of it. Especially with characters like Rhaenyra who we have sympathy for. Because like Dany for instance, they didn't show us how when or what made her lose all sense of reality, after the burning of KL she's like a secondary character that we know nothing of anymore. I hope they don't alienate us from Rhaenyra. We have to still feel some kind of investment in her story.

***Spoilers*** 3 possibilities with Aemond come to mind for me. 1) He is an example of someone attempting to defy fate and the old gods, possibly Aemond doesn't respect the old gods even if he comes to believe they're a real force. Could have an idea like the readers where he doesn't see it as truth but possibly as a manipulation. This makes sense if he doubts Alys for assisting Daemond along with the rest of house Strong. Also, he turned on his older woman lover even after he confided in her, and looked to her for support for so long, his sense of pride is greater than any attachment to another person. Even if he does confide in Alys as well, I could see him disregarding her opinions on what he does. 2) He is given false visions by Alys after all, tells him things similar to his mommy-lover about how strong and capable he is. He comes to believe he will win in the end, with a subtle doubt of himself thanks to his sister, he tries even harder to prove that wrong. He goes into battle over gods-eye believing his victory is certain. Things go exactly how Alys wants in the end. 3) he accepts his fate as well, eventually, but does the atrocities to draw out his uncle. He knows he has to have a fate defining duel and he embraces it, outcome be darned. Just ideas, can't wait to see

Listening to this made me wonder if show-Helaena is maybe (???) about to take on some of Alys's role from the book. Because, like you guys discussed, it doesn't seem like Aemond's gonna get a genuine goth-witch girlfriend but Alys is supposed to be the one guiding him to the God's Eye eventually, right? I have to accept that theyve repalced nettles storyline, but it is gonna cause some things 2 feel out of place. We see what it has done 2 daemon's arc. Im okay with his storyline this season, but it wouldve been more interesting with nettles in it. Even if rhaena helps out in the battle of gullet, where else can she help out? She was never at any battles, and if shes inserted, it will feel out of place. If baela is involved in some battles, it wont feel out of place, but rhaena there, will. Ok lets say after she rescues viserys or aegon and was at the gullet, then what? Are they gonna kill sheep stealer in the gullet? If so, what a waste. I think they shud still try and get nettles character because it was by removing her storyline, why daemon's was not well received. Look, rhaena up and down with daemon os gonna feel weird, unless they're gonna add baela with them searching for aemond. But then y wud daemon risk his daughters being killed, his heir, knowing succession is gonna b an issue? And also y wud he have his daughter(s) there fighting with him, that is silly for obvious reasons. Like the writers need to creatively add nettles because it is gonna feel weird and off seeing rhaena completely having nettles storyline.
