Today I wanted to talk about just when we can expect the Switch 2 to be announced, what form that announcement might take, and when we think it'll actually release.

I think it’s fair to say for Switch Online that Nintendo has basically run out of their games for NES, SNES, and N64 but I’m hoping they announce in the June direct a big wave of games coming for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance to keep us busy before the Switch successor comes out.

I think we still got about a year of notable Snes and N64 games, but yeah hopefully more GB soon

One thing they could do, is announce a bunch of games in sept for the switch 2, and show the main gimmicks of the switch 2 in Jan 2025.

I don’t think they would show it fully off this year if they want to meet the quotas for this fiscal year. I’m guessing that if there’s a direct this September it will still be mainly Switch 1 games with possibly a Switch 2 game. Then the big blowout in January and then the Switch 2 releasing in April or May. Just my opinion

I’d say reveal in November and release in April. It’ll come with MP4 and a new Mario Kart as launch titles. I do hope they don’t rely on ports like that rumored Botw remaster, don’t be another Sony

I am going with what Nintendo did with the Switch Reveal by revealing Switch 2 in the Fall of This year. In the trailer will show a new 3D Open World Mario,New Mario Kart,ARMS 2,Crinsom Desert and Dokev coming to Switch 2 as 3rd Party games,Elden Ring as well and RDR2 getting ports along with BG3.

I thought maybe June/July, but that’ll just undermine whatever Switch 1 games they show off. So it’ll likely be September. Even if they wait until Q1 2025, I can’t really see them launching in November 2025. Providing games are ready, Switch 1 has been out long enough, there’s no competition (Switch is established so the Christmas launch FOMO isn’t necessary), and early 2025 seems like the latest you can release to have a few months transition period. Can’t imagine they have notable monthly releases past Q2 2025, so waiting until Q4, and _then_ releasing Switch 2 exclusives only (basically) would be poor. I think November 2024 would’ve worked better, but it’ll be fine.

My take is - Nintendo gives more information about the next console in their August investor meeting. - Have a September Direct going over Switch games already announced and revealing Switch 1 games coming out early 2025. - Do a console and software reveal in January 2025. - Console either comes out at the very end of their Fiscal Year (March 2025) or at the beginning of the next Fiscal Year (April or May).

The only thing I would add is maybe a 30 second tease in early November. The strategy would be to undercut potential sales for Ps5 pro and the Xbox series upgrade model. Sources are claiming those will be on sale this holiday. If consumers know how much it is and at least vague details, they may hold their money until April
