I think the Szobo role is a little bit misunderstood. I mean, we all know he's the engine. But what I don't think people quite see is that he's used mostly to pull the opposition defenders out of position. He's on the pitch for his runs firstly, pulling away central players to open up space for Macca and Grav. I really believe Slot isn't too bothered about his on the ball quality right now. Both macca and Grav are better technically on the ball, and Szoboszlai is there to make space for those two, plus Salah and Trent. He runs left wing, right wing, in behind, etc, and the guys with the better on the ball ability then get the space to work magic. He's looked really bad on the ball recently, unfortunately. But yeah, I really think Slot is happy to sacrifice that for the running power.

@AllRedShow essentially, yeah🤷‍♂️🤣. I mean I agree with you, don't get me wrong! His runs are top class, but on the ball he has been BRUTAL. I'm not saying I'm okay with it, or he shouldn't be doing better... I'm just saying I think Slot is. I think he's happy to trade the on the ball stuff if it guarantees the cross country running/pulling defenders out of position he does👀 for the rest of the team. I also think Slots told him to keep it simple and never shoot from range unless it's a really high percentage of it going in. You can see it clearly on the pitch, he's so gunshy. The amount of times he's been about to rightly pull the trigger and stopped himself. For me, that type of style has stunted his confidence. He's having to supress his natural game. He's at his best when he's playing with freedom, in my opinion. When he's allowed to play naturally, try things, open up and and take shots from outside the area etc. But Slot said it himself. He'd rather the team keeps the ball than play the hard pass or take the hard shot. I just don't think that suits Szobo and it's made him very hesitant. I mean, I'm sure Slot will be asking for more from him on the ball, but I don't think he's great at playing conservatively. He gets a bit confused, thinks too much, and ends up playing a stupid pass anyway.

I know this will come across as overconfident but I really think we're going to surprise everyone and clobber these. Then, nobody, including Arteta himself will be able to deny two things: 1. Arsenal have problems that need fixing, especially at the back. 2. LFC are definitely going for the league trophy and City have us again as their pain in the ass. I'm saying it's a ridiculous 0-3 tie and it's the story of the week simply because the Gunners have to make-do at the back and we don't. VVD and Konate will do what they always do but Curtis/Macca to the wingers or Darwin will penetrate and punish them but good...or I'll be eating crow! 🤣

I'm going with Sam on the double pivot choices. I like Jones, but one thing that we have often seen is that he gets easily bypassed against better sides. Aaron's suggestion of having Jones in the pivot and Mac ahead of him negates Jones' strengths, whilst at the same time we lose some of the control that we get with having Mac in the pivot. It's a bad take in my opinion. As for Szoboszlai, I've been critical of Dom's contribution to the side, but Arsenal have a dynamic midfield and I feel that we need his engine against that. So.. Mac and Grav in the pivot, with Dom ahead of them would be my choice. Agree with Diaz over Gakpo on the left due to his energy and pitbull mentality.

Dom lost his confidence a while back. That is the biggest issue. If he does not belive in himself as he did last season (first part particularly), then who will? I do not think either that the massive criticism he has been getting helps him in any way. He became the most recent scape goat for too many sofa coaches... As for the sloppy passes, or shots without power, my take is a tiny bit different as well. His pressi g requires much more run from him than from many in the team. That can make passes a bit sloppy, but also, often people simply do not run for the forward passes. I agree, Jones should start; lets see the difference Dom can still cone on for a good 30-35 minutes if needed.

I fully agree with Macca at 10. Ppl have forgotten that he is perfect at 10. Szobozli is kind of our Pogba, I reckon. I think Thanos prefers Szobozli in 10 cuz his pace in tracking back is more than that of Macca. It's all about the right balance as in life! Against strong opponents he plays a bit like old italien teams, I have seen it so often when I was a young man in the 70s and 80s. The Italiens always had a super strong defense had two or three good goal scenes and won 1:0. !!! That's how we lost against Forest ! And often happens in the last 10 min. You want to win and 10 min before end you throwing everybody forward and forget about this one player of the other team who scores. An old Italian style was never nice to watch but they were successful with this method against strong teams. There is hard to come behind them or score ! There is no space in front of the goal with 20 players . Result playing in circles around the midfield to find that free spot for a steep pass......that can mostly be defended. But there is one counter and you are behind.... Forest won 0:1 like this..... if you think about the Jackson goal - same.I might not be right, it's just an idea....

No...I don't agree with all the criticism around Szlobo...he is a bit unlucky with his end-pass but very strong in positioning without the ball...which is extra important in Slot's philosophy... Greetings from Feijenoord...

You can criticise elements of Sobo‘s work there are elements of Sobo work you cannot criticise for example his work rates is energy is positioning. I do feel that is passing and his connection in attack has been seriously lacking and actually he has broken up a lot of our really important fast paced attacks.

I wouldn't put Jones in the team just because he had one good game. He keeps the ball too long and slows the game. Zsobo with his imprecise passes, he has the energy, strength and defensive capability to be a good defensive midfielder. I agree on playing Maca as a #10.
