A tune nearly 40 years old, I first caught it in 1999, 14 years after its release, when I audiotaped 92.7 WLIR-FM's 'Flashback Lunch with Malibu Sue' program. I was 39 years old then, very much in love 💕 with a lovely 25 year old woman. Today, I'm 64, she's 50, we've not contacted each other for the past 7 years (she married and had a son with another), yet 'Appetite' and many songs & artists from the 1980s remind me of my ongoing passionate love❤ for her. My thanks to Prefab Sprout and all you 80s music makers who helped me make it through the 90s. Cori, I wish you all the best in your life, God's blessings and my all out 💕 love for you forever. 'Ta-da!' T. Hamilton, Uniondale, NY 😊

I remember their song "When Love Breaks Down" from this album "Steve McQueen" back then on MTV, but unfortunately it was the only song I ever heard at that time by them. This was during my junior year of HS. I remember thinking their style was akin to Dream Academy ("Life in a Northern Town"). Only recently did I look up that song on KZbin and sampled other tunes like this one. I remember nearly buying this album back then. Wish I had! I remember it came out around the time of Rush's "Power Windows" album (big fan here).

Armado Bellmas: "Today on Ecléctico you're listening to "Appetite" by Prefab Sprout, an English pop band. (Released in 1985.) The song appeared on the album Steve McQueen in the UK and around the world. In the United States, the album's name was changed to Two Wheels Good to avoid legal action by the actor Steve McQueen's estate. "The two types of song I admire are the really catchy ones and the really emotional ones, and this one is the perfect combination of both," begins Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies on The Independent. "[Prefab Sprout singer and songwriter] Paddy McAloon has this lovely knack of injecting his pop songs with emotion and intellect, and 'Appetite' has some great lines. 'Here she is with two small problems, and the best part of the blame / Wishing she could call him Heartache, but it's not a boy's name.' He sings this one pretty straight, he doesn't go from a whisper to a scream as he does in some songs, and you get this great sense of a 'normal guy' using his voice as a tool to express himself. "The lyrics are sufficiently oblique to allow you to interpret them the way you like. I think it's a song about a man with a big libido, but he also has this sense that he's going to mess it all up if he goes after all he desires."
