Yes. If you feel the private college is marginally above new or baby iim, go with IIM brand Only exception is cases like xlri or fms which are 2 notches above. in that case you can prefer private /non iim colleges

His logic is good in this, but the point is your MBA will be over in the next 20 months. The roles and packages you're gonna get is as per the present situation of your MBA college. So it is better to go for present higher ranking college than to the Tag of IIM.

Not really your tag will be looked at during every job switch. If IIM udaipur grows to avg 35 over next 10 yrs you will also earn 40 to 50 during that time. This is how industry works in India at least. Name matters.

@@kfka_birt depends on economy of the nation... 2005 Lucknow avg was less than 9Lpa... lucknow was a new iim back then. No need to even think about that college now.

But the thing is today brands like old NMIMS and XIMB are growing too at a really good and unexpected rate. Can the new IIMs overtake them in the next 10 yrs is not as clear as was the case with IKL.

Certainly, take a look at the CAP cutoffs; they are increasing every year. This indicates that the quality of students on campuses is improving, at least academically. For instance, the average cutoff for non-domicile students at XIMB is around 90-92, while a minimum of 94 is required for CAP. Not all colleges will surpass the legacy institutions, but you can definitely find groups of three from each era that do.

If you won’t get placed at baby IIMs it’s likely you might not get placed anywhere. It seems you’ve misunderstood how an MBA changes your career- you get placed for your skills, not because of the institute name.

@Arunmsharma I agree with that sir, but if good recruiters are not coming on campus than what will a student can do in that case And also mostly startups comes in baby iim which can revoke offers as they have done it in past as well Good recruiters comes only in tier 1 colleges which also includes nmims and iit delhi as well Also they provide better roles in tier q colleges So i believe one should not go to any college only based on iim tag Instead one should go after seeing quality of recruiters and roles

Its just marketing strategy of coaching institute to show no of iim selection.Prefer better colleges like sibm pune,nmims,iift,xlri,jbims,iits over new iims for high package jobs. Once you enter industry its your performance that matters.New iims have startups and companies that offer less package jobs with low profile

Why would anyone chose a college where it's easy to convert. NMIMS and SIBM are far easier to convert than new IIMs so ofcourse level of students will be better in IIMs why is this even a question. Anyday IIM os better than any private college in India

And nmims and sibm students are getting better placements than any new iims , Trichy gives 2000+ buffer calls for 200 seats , iim is only reputed to blackis, no new iims comes in tier 1 but nmims and sibm comes according to various employers

They are only easier to convert for general, 60%-70% students in iims end up through some kind of reservation. So keep that in mind when you talk about level of students. Although, I guess SIBM has reservations too, so I'm mainly talking about NMIMS.

Government backing always works in this country and all the IIMs and IITs raced ahead eventually. IIX brand always works in the long run both nationally and internationally. And in India, oh man, brand sells like hotcake. New IIMs may match in 5-7 years, and in 10-15 years eventually get ahead of other private inst. Example IIM Shillong was launched in 2007. You will also remain be a lifetime IIM alumni. And if you were always in normal private colleges in undergrads., ultimately you get a taste of an Institute of National Importance pushed and backed by the MHRD of the Indian government

@@cashmoney2159 Maybe, I don't know. My friend joined as a consultant at Bain & Co. from DMS-IIT Delhi. Basically, what they do is tell all consulting companies coming to IIT for recruitment to take some students from their Management School as well. It's like reserving a few placement seats for the MCA Students at CS Placements in a college.

IIT ko IIT ka kaam karne do, you'll feel like an imposter there, when you'll say I've graduated from IIT people will automatically assume eng, you would have to deliberately explain to them about Doms, which most people don't even know exists, joining IIM would be the part of being a legacy, and getting your education from an institution specifically made for mba and equipped with best infrastructure available to help you Excel in the field ofmanagement.
