Pregabalin (Lyrica) is a medication in the gabapentinoid class. It has anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, and analgesic properties. As such, it's used for epilepsy, neuropathic pain, anxiety, and other conditions.
Despite being a GABA derivative, it doesn't appear to be operating through a GABA-related mechanism.
The substance is also used recreationally due to its euphoric, anxiolytic, and pro-social effects.

merncat75 I was on 75mg 2 x a day,so 150mg daily, years before I was prescribed lyrica I’ve been on antidepressants since November the year of September 11 planes ,twin towers,I stopped living and just exist ever since. Cipramil 2x20mg once at night ,muralax (oxazepam 30mg) 0-2 a day extreme anxiety and ptsd and it’s the only way I can find me or bring me back when I disassociate from me(it’s very complex)lol, and I was also on anti inflammatory medication for my lower back,that was (BRUFEN 200mg) 1 a day. I think I started taking that about maybe 5 months before I started on lyrica then I found out brufen was linked to heart attacks so I stopped taking them,I don’t think I was on brufen when I started lyrica,I’ve been reading the comments and I read antidepressants and lyrica are not good together,I know it was lyrica that made my memory all messed up and my eye sight blurry and I don’t know if this feeling of ice going down my back and the back of my legs and the feeling of being burnt mostly the size of a smoke burning me but sometimes it can be the size of my hand burning like a flame oh and electric shocks i feel at least 2-3 times a week,this could be because the nerve damage I have is from my neck and daily migraines and nerve damage around my elbow. I hope this helps.🙏💞Sorry I don’t think I said how long I was on lyrica to be honest I don’t know or remember exactly how long I was on it but I know it was less than a year.

Just DO NOT attempt to abuse this medication as I can see the abuse potential and I know people who have took large doses with no prescription to feel good and high . I have general anxiety and social anxiety and at 150mg a day (seems low doesn't it) it really helps my anxiety, by reducing physical symptoms (and panic attacks) and making me more confident around people and relaxed and also helps me sleep (used to have horrible insomnia with around 4 hours or less sleep)

Have been taking it for about 7-8 years for pinched nerve in my spine.. - It was horrible pain.. - Was prescribed Lyrica and the pain stopped.. - After 6 months of intense pain, I was ‘cured’.. - Had to adjust it a bit, am taking 225mg a day.. - Not only did it stop the pain in my spine,, it also stopped all migraines I was having for years.. - Was having at least two migraines a week, but when I started taking Lyrica, they simply disappeared..

As someone who's used high levels of gabapentin [3200mg daily/7000+mg recreationally] I can tell you that withdrawal from gabapentin is longer lasting as far as sleep disruption and intense night sweats. I've abused lyrica as well at levels as high as 3000+mg per day and although withdrawals are much worse [flu-like symptoms], they will only last 3-4 days. The addiction potential is very low with lyrica. I'm sober now [from an intense bout with all drugs, but mainly benzodiazepines and amphetamines] and currently studying to be an addiction specialist, while continuing to take Lyrica at levels of 150mg TID. I often forget to dose and have only taken it as prescribed since getting sober. It also has greatly removed any craving, but mostly regarding the desire for alcohol/benzos which makes sense due to GABA activity (even though they differ on the site). I've been watching you since way back. Thanks TDC!

Since you seem to have plenty of experience with the same regimen of substances as myself, I've never been tempted to use my scripts in a purely recreational way. After getting off benzos (with all the fun "brain shocks") Gabapentin and hydros for over two years, my pain levels returned with a vengeance. I'm now prescribed 150mg Lyrica tid, and 5mg oxy's, up to pid, along with both a muscle relaxant and anti-anxiety med. I've experienced that feeling of euphoria a few times and am curious if that is the "high" so sought after when looking for alternative uses? Also, I've noticed a definite flu-like response if I accidentally miss even a single dose of the Lyrica. Sinuses are a real problem when using these in tandem (at least for me), but I've never read in either the printed or online version of warnings and side effects about it. Best Regards.

Lyrica was a godsent for me. It took me off of any antidepressants, it took away most of my general anxiety, it took away my back pain and it keeps my depression very well in check. I take 150mg/day but it is a medicine for me, however, i took it recreationally several times out of curiosity and i found out that a good recreational dose is around 600mg at once with mild or no tolerance at all. If you go over 600mg, the side effects like dizziness and drowsiness, impaired motion will be too intense to call it a nice experience so, yeah.To describe the high is very similar to mdma but without the energy and the visual enhancement just the cozy, loving and relaxed feeling with a really strong mental euphoria in the first hour. There is no comedown, it has a pleasent afterglow of general good mood that can last the other day too. Good to know is that pregabalin builds tolerance incredibly fast so basically every other reacreational dose will be significanly less intense so you might wanna use it rarely to enjoy it. As i said i personally use it daily as medication at a common dose, worked very well for me. The only noticeble side effect in 3 years is weight gain so you might keep in check your diet because you will have increased appetite in time from pregabalin (you will get fat fast if you dont pay attention to it), otherwise nothing negative, i feel way less anxious overall, i'm more empathic (i know for sure that for me it has a mild but welcomed entactogenic effect even at a small common dose), and more relaxed in general both physically and mentally. If you wanna quit it after a prelonged daily use DO NOT go cold turkey because you will experience bad withdrawal symptoms like headaches, unsettleness and bad migraines that can last for days. Please taper it down, gradually reduce the dosage until you finally quit, take weeks or even a month if necessary dont go cold turkey on it.

People who like recreational drugs really sleep on pregabalin. It is probably one of the best medications to use for recreational use, it can be addictive but compared to benzo's, opiods and even alcohol it is alot harder to get addicted. The high is best described as the euphoria and sociability that mdma gives first time users, and the anxiety reduction and relaxation associated with benzos like diazapam. This is a great substance and the only thing someone needs to be careful with is mixing it will alcohol, I have had full blackouts mixing it with large amounts of alcohol even when taking it at medical doses

I get severe sciatica at least once a year or more from a herniated disc and the pain lasts months. I get prescribed lyrica, it's works well and I can move with minimal pain but I do get many side effects. It makes me eat more, I want to drink alcohol when I usually don't, I feel dizzy and it makes me think and act differently. I do like talking to friends on it though and I can string a sentence better than when I'm pain free and soba, it kinda enhances cognitive ability. If I had the choice I wouldn't take it but the pain I experience is extreme and debilitating. I do feel drugged up on it. I usually take 150mg a day but somtimes do 300mg. I currently live in Thailand and recently went to one of the government hospitals to get consultation for back surgery. Before I left America two and a half years ago a neurologist said I need back surgery to fix the L4, L5, & S1 but I opted out, out of fear, Hind site...LOL! Well with all the doctors and test I went through here in Thailand and although all the other doctors cleared me for surgery the spine surgeon here said that he did not recommend surgery due to my age (70) and medical history (heart disease) and prescribed Brillion 50mg three time daily which helped with the lower back and sciatica pain to a degree but did not stop the pain. I have been on Brillion 50mg for about two months now and thinking about increasing my dosage ever so slightly to see if I can improve its effects. I think this video was very informative and really mirrored the comments made by the spine surgeon here on its effects.

It has been shown in some studies that Lyrica can cause both atrial fibulation and congestive heart failure. A family member just went through this. That fluid retained can also collect around the lungs and cause congestive heart, which it did in our case. Of course the dr.'s didn't agree with my suspicions so I searched and found some legit study cases, printed them out and gave to the dr.s.

Dan Curry it sucks how well gabapentinoids help opiate withdrawal because they block your brains ability to create new synapses, thus making you just as as likely to be an addict. The best way by far is cold turkey, if you have the strength. Get ahold of some shrooms if you need motivation, overkill is the only way you can hurt yourself so don't go over 3 grams. They definitively help mental illness and it's a shame about their reputation.

I made a little change to the TDC website pages. From here on out, particularly for pharmaceuticals, I'm including short "conflict of interest" sections for each paper I talk about. I'll mention if the study was sponsored by a pharmaceutical company or if the authors have some form of connection to a company. Company-sponsored papers can obviously be useful and are often entirely fine. But the potential for bias exists, so it's worth pointing it out. A bigger issue is ultimately publication bias and there's not much I can do to address that issue. So, I'll do what I can in terms of highlighting possible conflicts.

Its EXTREMELY controversial in terms of of withdrawal, following discontinuation... Therefore, people have HORRIBLE withdrawal due to Dr.'s not 'believing in' w/d symptoms. MANY Patients go through HELL due to this controversial view on it, within the medical field. Something NEEDS to be done about that because abrupt use can cause reoccurring seizures and the dreadful 'glutamate storm' which is arguably cause irreversible damage on the brain... WAYYY more long term research needed for this drug. WAYYYY to easily and inconsiderably prescribed. That being said... Some find extreme benefits and minimal negative side effects, IF/when the drug us discontinued... Theirs a game of Russian-roulette for ya'! Sounds desirable...

Sorry, I was prescribed Lyrica at one time for mixed connective tissue disorder (lupus, fibromyalgia, schleroderma etc) and lost 4 days of my life to one starter dose pill. I don't remember anything but my mother said I became very belligerent and refused to allow her to take me to the hospital. Hi Seth. Great video mate! I spent around 5 or 6 years on pregabalin whilst waiting for an operation on my neck. The surgeon now refuses to do the operation due to "ongoing other health problems". I asked him about this stuff that he had put me on all those years ago and was told, that, "It's ok, you can continue to have these prescribed each month at 300 mg x 2 per day". I spoke to my GP and spent the first 3 months or so of this year, whittling the dosage down until I was finally free of the stuff. Kids, if you wanna get off your face then there are plenty of less harmful things than this awful shite. Months after bein free of it, my head is still clouded to hell. I forget way more stuff than I even hope to remember. Which sounds ok until you start forgetting more important things in your life. Like how to get home!

I've been taking lyrica for anxiety for about 9-10 years. The only good thing it has done for me is to lessen the amounts of panic attacks I have, and the intensity of the attacks. But the body just wants more and more with time, to keep the good effects. I take 150mg now. I have gained a lot of weight, I'm tired and I can't think clearly.. theres like a heavy fog in my brain. I'm gonna go down in strength very soon and phase it out of my system slowly, because it's very addictive. In my country it's classed as a narcotic now. Withdrawals here I come..

Come off slowly mate, l was on 300mg per day (150 x 2)..after watching this l now realise this wasn't a large dosage.. it helped ptsd & anxiety somewhat..lve got pinched nerves in my neck, it didn't help with this tho. Anyway, reducing your dose, try not to cut down by greater than 30% decreases.. My anxiety flared ridiculously as did my insomnia...l read a fair bit online in forums, not a gd idea, they're never positive places. But l took about 14 mths to rid myself of taking it slowly..none for over a year now.. so good luck with it mate..it has gd results..but definitely wasn't for me.

Mawk Grasper I’ve been on it for 11 years & in some ways it’s worse than opiate withdrawal if one tries quitting cold turkey. Withdraw symptoms are so bad that I try to keep at least half a month extra as a safety net in case of the “unknown” & I have to find a new doctor or something. It HAS improved my quality of life, I was suffering with severe nerve pain. I’m almost 53 & ok with the fact I’m gonna be on it for life. Anyone who decides to start taking this medication needs to talk with their dentist about dry mouth & a proactive plan to battle tooth decay.

Thank u Seth. Wow the amount Northwestern got from this drug! I've been on it for fibromyalgia for a number of years, and among the various prescriptions I've had or have, this is the one that seems to help the most, with the fewest negative cognitive effects - and that's a big deal for me. As a professor I don't know if I could continue working if I had to rely only on opioids and/or benzos. I do think it's begun contributing to vision problems over time but that could be just normal aging.

It also has negatives. Such as being so deep asleep your "I need a pee" waking fails to happen. What does happen is 15 minutes later your "There is something wrong with the bed" waking works. Then you find wet boxers and a patch of bed wetting. I had a week of this every night, by the end, my wife and I went from me very upset and her calming me down, to both getting up she changes the sheets and duvet cover and puts the one the absorbent puppy pads down. I got my ass into the shower and then took the soiled stuff down to the washing machine. Amazing how quickly you automated things! By the end, we didn't say a word until it was all sorted, and then we resumed the conversation we were having before dropping off. That was me dropping off mid-word. It's damn strong stuff!

For those who need Lyrica and have to pay over $300 for the prescription there are alternatives that are natural. Most prescription drugs are synthetic versions of a vitamin and Lyrica is no different. Pregabalin is a synthetic version of GABA "Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid" which is what Lyrica is and can be purchased for $10 to $15 a bottle. While it is true that pregabalin is a derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid it certainly cant be replaced by a GABA supplement due to the fact that GABA absorbed through the gut cannot pass the blood brain barrier effectively meaning if someone gets an effect at safe dosages its almost certainly placebo. There is a chance that taking very large doses can bombard the blood brain barrier with enough GABA to allow a very small portion to force its way through but the doses required for this are not recommended at all, especially with such minimal efficacy.

I'm back on pregablin now 600mg plus methadone 30ml plus clonozepam plus rotigotina patch for sleep and restless legs and I'm awaiting my adhd medication Guanfacin and Atomoxetine. I have severe adhd so need non stimulant adhd drug (it's apparently a common mistake to be prescribed stimulant when you need non stimulant drugs and vices versa) If you can do some videos on the adhd drugs. Cheers Edit I have previously been prescribed (pre adhd diagnosis) mertrazepine, duloxetine , certroline, citalopram, non of them worked and all made me worse especially the duloxetine. So if anyone has severe adhd be careful on the above drugs if sleeping is already a problem.

I left Afghanistan in 2005 and used morphine and alcohol in the beginning and my doctor refused to give me any other addictive medication for a long time. After many suicide attempts he changed his mind and just asked me "What medication works for you? I can give you anything you feels working for you,cause I cant watch you end up in the statistics of suicidal veterans?"! I wrote a list of dozes of Xanax, Lyrica and Zopiclone which probably could sedate a heard of Elephants?

Striker Orwell i hope you get this message. try to get methadone. it is a miracle. it is nothing like other opiates. i take it for nerve pain and it has zero side effects,no high feeling at all and is the closest thing to feeling "normal" i have had. lyrica is expensive poison. and mentally fucked my head bad. methadone is a fucking miracle. once at the right dose,you will never need an increase. methadone and weed.oh. and for some reason. it makes me not care for alcohol. .i've had a bottle of brandy here for so long i think it might not be good any more. last six pack i got.i only had 3. and i used to love to drink.

This is great drug for anxiety! But much like benzo would not recommend for Longterm use (years) on 450mg a day atm, yes it has abuse potential but not worth it if you’re taking it for a general reason.

@@danielzapata9865 so many knockoffs now I used to get the Pfizer ones before the generic ones came out they where ery good , I wouldn't take the ones from a dealer or any generic ones as they're shite. At one stage I check the price for 1kg of pregabalin wasn't very expensive so dealers must have started to buy it from the net make they're own 1 pound or more a tablet. I ate strips of 14 loads before but I didn't realize how dangerous it was at the time . many people n northerners Ireland's have died from poly drug use taking the buds tramadol booze diazepam and strong coke together can just make you stop breathing I heard. Thats interesting, Pregabalin has also been said to have a strong possibility for adverse effects with other serotonergic drugs such as MDMA and its analogues and possibly certain serotonergic psychedelics. Its mechanisms of action are very diverse and quite mysterious at this point so mixing with such powerful medications could be risky and I certainly wouldn't advise it.

This is one of the worst drugs I’ve ever used. Causing severe anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and restlessness due to anxiety. And it also has withdrawal symptoms a kin to benzodiazepine withdrawal, so you need to taper off otherwise all the side effects are tenfold worse.
@serious-cyrusnoelan8127
@serious-cyrusnoelan8127 3 жыл бұрын
I know it's old, however, I like your video man... The only statement I would argue is withdrawal being mainly reported from people recreational using the drug. This could be wrong in SO many ways. First: What if the recreational user is using the same amount as a regular prescribed patient? Lets say, 150 mg (for argument sake). They find it effective and they decide to stick to this dose. Than you have a prescribed patient taking the same amount... One of the main differences would now be their bodies reaction. Aside from having medical advice from a Dr. (Which could be next to useless depending on the advice and the Dr.'s knowledge or general opinion). Second (intertwined with the first): EVERYONE reacts slightly difference to withdrawal symptoms, this especially seems apparent with Lyrica if you read up in peoples Lyrica discontinuation/w/d experiences. Some can w/d from ANY amount of taper where as others can abruptly stop and have next to NO symptoms. Again, this would have very little (if anything) to do with being prescribed the drug or taking it recreationally... A complicated subject, I'm aware. Just thought I throw in this novel due to sheer boredom. Cheers.
