My wife just gave birth to our second son. The best tips I can give you is not to focus on stuff for the baby. Things don't really help in my opinion. Babies only want milk and you for the first three months. The most important thing you need is to adjust your lifestyle so that you can focus on the baby. You will have zero free time as a parent at the beginning and it's a really big change. The first 100 days after birth are a shock to your household. And yes, it's supposed to sound like that when they poop for the first three months. Don't forget to eat. You're useless to the baby if you don't take care of yourself. You are not supposed to sleep with your baby, but the truth is your baby will love it and sleep longer. Start practicing sleeping on your back with something small on your chest. Your husband too. Even if it's on the couch. Infants barely sleep 2 to 3 hours at a time at night. Newborns usually sleep a lot, a lot, a lot in the first ten days and barely make any dirty diapers. They sleep in a trance and it's very heavy. But the secret is they need to be fed. They literally eat and pass out. The real infant comes out in the third week. And thereafter, your child will be slightly different and growing until it is 12 months old. Then it stabilizes and slows down a touch. If you want newborn pictures, get them scheduled in the first two weeks or completely forget about it. Here are a few tips for your registry based on my opinions and experience: Add burping clothes to your registry... probably 8 to 12 and you will need to wash them regularly. You should also get cloth bibs (like a dozen) for when they start drooling, which isn't too long after they start holding up their head. I would get a couple baby hats too. They really do like being warm. You have too many furniture items. You only need one bouncy chair and they grow out of it quickly. The snotsucker is a scam. It's wasting a lot of space in my boy's room and never used. Buy it if you need it after your baby is born. The baby laundry detergent seems a bit gimmicky... not something I would invest in unless you find your child has issues. I also recommend the Halo Sleep Sack in various sizes for night time swaddling and diaper changes. Get swaddling blankets for the day time. Using two blankets is the way to go. Do some research on swaddling if you are not familiar - it's vital to sleeping for the first 6 to 8 months. You should also consider a noise maker. We use an old iPhone and a wireless speaker. We chose ocean sounds for the first baby and we are using rain for the second. Use it at night now and get used to it. We also went very simple with the car seats and chose Graco. They are available everywhere. We had an infant seat and we got a second base for our second car. So it was easy to move the baby between vehicles. It's not glamorous by any means but it poops, farts, pees, vomits, and cries, and it doesn't care if it cost $150 or $1,500. It won't thank you for the deluxe model or grow up any different. Oh and definitely a baby monitor. We picked up a cheapo camera from amazon and use an app on our phone when we want to check in on them in their rooms. The Boppy is an absolute joke of a product if you have large breasts. Breastfeeding is not easy or natural for the baby. It takes them time to learn. You should consider buying some formula even if you plan to breastfeed. It takes time for the breast milk to come in and everything to work right. The infant gets hungry no matter what your milk is doing. We needed about 4 ounces of formula for our first son, and only 1 ounce for my second son. It's not a lot, but it's enough to comfort them and get them back to sleep in the first 2 to 3 days of life while your supply comes in. Obviously this isn't an issue if you only plan to give them formula. Hopefully this has been helpful. I know it's a bit much.

I’d say a game changer for me was being gifted a “Haakaa”. It’s a silicon breast pump, and in my opinion a must have!
@freedominabudget

Is it a manual pump? I was recommended the haakaa ladybugs that go in your bra in between feedings and pumping to catch letdown.

i have an 18mo old and expecting #2 now and what i really wish i did differently was the kind of crib i got... i got a typical white crib but would have switched it for a crib with a swing door so i wouldnt have to uncomfortably bend over to pick up my first once we dropped the crib mattress down... its annoying to bend over the crib to pick up the baby and now even more so with a bump

^onsies with zippers is a must for me now... snaps are such a pain esp in the middle of the night, and last would be to get a couple of cloth diaper covers to use over reg diapers... almost no blowouts for us when we started using them 15 months ago (and we only get cheep Aldi or Walmart diapers)

Very helpful info thank you!! This makes so much sense. Are cribs with swing doors common? I've never seen one before
