Hi EM , I’m so happy for you!! Did you ever try to play some ocean, or rain sound ? There are so many on KZbin, and they can play for hours, some can play for 8 hours or more, and no commercials. Sometimes I don’t sleeping well ((I lost 2 daughters 16 years apart, and I do take sleeping pills every night)) but sometimes it doesn’t work, so my son and daughter were very worry about me, and they found some sounds on KZbin, and it really helps me. I too have horrible dreams and flashback of my first daughter in the car accident. I turn on the sound very low, and it helps me fall asleep, and for some reason, it helps with the nightmares and flashback. I wish all the best for you❤️❤️💐🌹💐🌹

@@irenexavier6960 I think that "Love Wins' message goes for you as well in my eyes. You are a mother who lost her daughters (I'm *SO* sorry) and have managed to put back the pieces enough to talk about it and share the things that calm you when you need it. That's *incredibly* brave and strong. I hope you're able to see a therapist or have someone to talk to about what happened. There's no reason to go through that alone. You shouldn't have to suffer those flashbacks by yourself. Having a strong support system is very beneficial. Even if you don't want to talk about it, it's helpful to know you'd have someone to turn to if needed. I think you are an incredible survivor based off what you had responded to the OP with. I hope that you're able to get sound sleep tonight with no flashbacks. I'm sure you need the good rest. I'm sending my love to you and your daughters, who you may feel are far away, but I know they're always near you when you need them. Stay strong, you've got this!!!💜💞💜💞💜💞💜

I send prayers to Elizabeth. Such a strong woman. My sisters and I many times talked with our Mom to leave our father because of the abuse she was going through (And us 3 girls). But because of the brainwashing my father did to Mom she stayed.😢 Mom was with our father til she died at age 75 from cancer in 2006. I even witnessed him hitting her a month before she died. Unfortunately(!) my 97 year old father is still alive in 2023. He still ‘tries’ to mentally abuse us sisters, like he did Mom, and my eldest sister is almost to the age my Mom died, but we know better and won’t allow it. Us girls still must take care of our father even though we have had enough of him. But, if we didn’t take care of him, us sisters would be in trouble by law for abandoning the elderly. God said we must “Honor our fathers and Mothers”. My sisters and I will give honor that he ‘fathered’ us, but we have no respect for him.

Agreed. As a grown woman now but when I was a little girl I would beg my mom, constantly bug her, not for the Easy-Bake Oven, not for the Barbie doll RV, but mamamamamamamamamama can we go live in the woods. That's how I said it. One day she grabbed me and shook me and yelled at me got all up in my face and said no no no we can't go live in the woods and don't you ever ask me again. She wouldn't leave my abusive father until that is until she found out he was sleeping around behind her back having affairs. She got a phone call from a man one day it was on a Sunday. It was during the summer time. Man had recordings where he had surveilled my father and his wife talking on the phone and he was divorcing his wife. He was calling to tell my mother that his wife and my father have been having an affair and it was something like one or two years that the affair had been going on. That's when my mama finally left him. She wouldn't do it for us, but she did it herself. It destroyed all of my siblings, they are people that turned out to be just like him. Except, for my one brother, the brother that my father had beaten so bad and all different types of forms of abuse to extensively making him mentally handicapped. Mothers who leave abusive relationships and put their kids first get a standing ovation from me.

Well, frankly, if I’m watching the news correctly and reading all the stories about this, it’s the men that abuse, women, and the children and rape him I mean, let’s face it. And they get away with it, because the general juries, and the government will not take the music and slap it in their face, I’ve seen where they murdered somebody a girl away and made and raped him and then murdered him and got off like after 10 years that is just plain vicious evil and I’m tired of seeing it in the mood and the news all the time it’s always a man beaten up murdering girls, five and six whatever I’m sick of it I don’t know where you or any man and I’m talking to the men here think that you’re so special that you have something special and it’s all right for you to do that ever. Not only that you’re teaching your sons to be dogs like you sorry I’m tired of being quiet about it. It’s about time. Women really got mad. I know men are taking a beating from women and women livers but this is a serious thing where they take a woman’s life and the children and it’s got to stop.

My mother was a Midwife for over 40 yrs. Delivering among the Amish & English (as they refer to us) alike. She delivered women at home and hospitals. She delivered generations of babies. She would tell us she had to kick the men out of bed. They would be with the women right after giving birth. No waiting 6 week minimum for them. It’s sickening! The women were treated for infections, tears and a few would need surgical repairs. The men cared nothing for their pain & plight. My mom was very protective of the women. She counseled women to leave. The Amish retaliation was real and scary. We all had to be careful.

When are we going to understand that religious right should not exist not in lieu of some of these rights at best but at the expense of people's rights? Teach your children, teach them morals and show them a great role model they want to be when they grow up. But don't indoctrinate them! Don't use religion to instill fear in your children to get your own away. Give them an education. Don't threaten expulsion of the community especially within family. Don't force them to work insane long hours under dangerous work conditions for a little to no pay all for the idea of saving the world or correcting one's behavior. Don't starve children. You're right to freedom does not give you the right to take away that right for your child. Misappropriation begins where it can begin. This honor system the court has and believing that no parent would take advantage of their child even for religious beliefs as abhorrently wrong and we have seen it time and time again. Children deserve the right to safety, and freedom, and the right to prosper. I know it's controversial, but even if they're female... SMDH laws need to be changed people. And everyone of you complaining about CPS just so you know we expect CPS to be mind readers we haven't actually change laws to mandate any kind of scrutiny into domestic abuse accusations. This is a structure and a system that has stood for far too long.

I'd ❤ to be able to speak with you sometime. I'm a victim of the LDS church (cult) & unfortunately, my ex- husband took my kids and fled to Utah, violating our custody agreement. This has warped my mind & made me blame God, on & off throughout my struggles. It's so painful. And our country gives so much freedom from religious persecution. That's the wave he rides to keep them isolated and cut off from the real world. My life has been over since the day he took them & he continues to torture my soul from afar, keeping my children to use as his pawns in what he thinks is a game.

I agree with you 100%: This woman is a hero and an absolute pioneer in her community. It took so much for her to stand up the way she did. I am in no way trying to minimize her actions or your statement. But, as a whole we need to stop putting the prioritization of our children’s wellbeing solely on mothers. This is an ideal that should be demonstrated by BOTH parents and as a society we should voice this expectation. Especially in communities like this one, so much of this responsibility is placed unequally on the shoulders of women.

My family is not Amish, but very religious. I went thru a similar thing. I called police, my husband admitted to hitting me in front of everyone and threatened kidnapping me (again), and still my family told the cops to stand in a circle, hold hands and pray that we stay together 🤦‍♀️ it was bizarre... the cops actually did it! Thank God a female cop pulled me aside and gave me a card for the domestic violence program. I have been free from an abusive spouse for over 10 years now. I am still religious. Its not religion that requires women to stay with abusers... but a misunderstanding and misapplication of it. A man who does not care for and protect his family is worse than an infidel... even slaves are freed if they are abused... the Bible actually does support abused women escaping, but evil ppl twist scripture to something it is not supposed to be.

I’m amazed by Elizabeth’s strength and resilience in the face of a whole community and culture that grooms women from a young age to accept what they are told and what ever is done to them. Elizabeth grew up Amish. Had a lovely life due to godly parents before her sociopath ex husband acquired her. The good things are true. There's good and evil in every culture. We are now at a time in history that we can more easily shine a light on what's been going on in the dark since the ancient corruption of mankind and correct injustices. Shocking but none of this is new under the sun. Exposure is painful but it's a blessing of opportunity.

Elizabeth has such a beautiful spirit and soul. It’s such a terrible shame to have to be shunned by her own family who loved her due to her abusive husband. Her husband ruined everyone’s lives. I commend her for still speaking lovingly about her family. It seems she was sheltered and her parents were sheltered and that’s how no one clocked his deviant ways.

As a survivor of child SA...I applaud you. Your words ring true. Bc of my childhood I thought God had let me down and found solace in the bottle til age 43 when I found sobriety in a 12 step program. I arrived broken, afraid and wishing for death...and it was near. I had 3 young girl and tho I never hit them I did just as much harm in neglecting them. My oldest was 6 and already playing mom. Two yrs sober I found a therapist specializing in childhood trauma. By this time I had come to believe in a God of My understanding. My faith was not restored in any church but only thru a month of praying...Hey if you're there help me not drink today.Then I'd head to a MTG... Around ppl like me who bolstered me .....I'd pray on the way home, Please Don't let my car turn into that liquor store. At night I'd thank this Higher Power not really sure if this was real. After two months of doubt and white knuckling against drink. I was standing in my little kitchen when the words came....I've not thought about drinking for 3 days. The obcession was gone and has never returned My life today is full of joy And peace. When hard times came I knew I'd survive. I don't preach. And I politely shut down ppl who say I need a church to enter their heaven. I work with women who are where I've been. Many go back out and don't survive...some do. Alcoholism is a powerful, insidious and very patient disease. I only pray a little several times daily to be willing to walk His word....to stay in peace and help others. Yes the footsteps prayer is great. I begin each morning with silent words I say to self by poet Emily Dickinson.... Hope is the thing with feathers that perches the soul and sings the tune without words and never stops at all. It lightens me when a man, my brothers, have a good understanding of abuse and all it's Fallout and says no this cannot be ignored. Thnx for your post. Sorry mine so long but I'm a spread the hope girl. I'm a survivor. I hope my words reach one person maybe

Thank you for covering this case & doing this video. My mother & her siblings were raised in the Mennonite church, which is basically one step away from being Amish. A shunning situation happened with their oldest sister due to her becoming pregnant out of wedlock. In addition to this experience, fast forwarding in time, another aunt's stepsons SA'd me when I was between the ages of 5-7; nothing was done at the time & I had to stay silent. Fast forward again to my adulthood. When I finally drew the line saying that I wouldn't be around the stepsons anymore, my aunt said, "Why are you doing this to me?" ------ Another problem was being cornered in church by the pastors & my aunt trying to "get demons out" of me because I wanted to go to a Christian women's conference downtown. ----- Religious oppression of women & the abuse that women in these religions have to be subjected to is wrong on so many levels. Please keep shining light on these situations & hats off for helping these women navigate their ways out!!!

Angela, you really need to clarify which mennonite group. I am in a mennonite group that would not be tolerated and abuse is reported to authorities.
@alifetime360
@alifetime360 Жыл бұрын
@Joyce Nightingale To clarify as best as I can, my mother's family was in Iowa during the time, and the shunning situation happened during the 1950s, I believe. Although each family member ended up leaving the Mennonite church & branching off into other Christian groups, I do recall "Anabaptist" being mentioned quite a bit. Head coverings were worn, as well as women being forbidden to wear pants. So, once everyone started branching out, it was a big deal for the women on my mother's side to be able to wear pants, go to movies & seek further education, etc.,. To clarify: I am not saying that everyone in the Mennonite church is terrible, nor am I suggesting that my experience is the norm. However, each family member that branched out to other areas of Christianity held very tightly to their Mennonite upbringing. Out of fear for what might be done (aka shunning) in other churches (as well as extensive abuses from my biological father to include alcoholic and drug induced outrage, which literally threatened our lives on more than one occasion), it was pertinent - when knowledge of the SA from my cousins came out - for me to stay silent and act normal so as to enable everyone to stay in their respective churches without consequence. My point is that had the shunning situation not occurred in the first place with my aunt, this intense fear of being ousted by "the church" in other Christian groups would not have been quite so intense (probably). Also, I will say, although you requested "clarification" - and I appreciate why you would request that - the level of control & fear that my mother & her siblings lived in (to varying degrees) is very telling of the levels of control that they learned to survive in as children. Having said that, just because my overall family experience - (coupled with the various types of abuse that I endured as a female in varying sectors of Christianity) - might not be tolerated in your particular branch of Christianity (Mennonite to be exact per your comment), well, that does not mean that abuses have not occurred and literally do occur within different parts of "the church". I respect that everyone has the right to believe what they want. As such, I reserve the right to speak openly about my experiences when I am able to, as it might help someone else who has been in any similar type of situation feel as if they're not so alone. Saying all of that, I appreciate that you wanted clarification, but just because you believe that something to the extent of what happened in my family would not happen in your congregation, well, that does not diminish - in any way - the shunning situation my aunt experienced nor does it diminish the levels of secrecy I was forced to survive under. (Try acting normal for years in front of two men who R'd & SA'd you.) My aunt who was shunned was expected by her nuclear family to continue going to an acceptable church (although she had been shunned) and it was difficult for them to understand why she was so hurt by this "church practice" within the Mennonite church that they were a part of. Thankfully, she went on to gain a bachelor's degree and was very successful in her 40-plus years of working as a nutritionist. She had an amazing spirit of survival, which encouraged me during those dark days of silence & she did find a type of peace about it all before she passed. One more addition, my mother's side of the family was German/Swiss & there is a small family Bible written in German that has been handed down and is cherished as a piece of history within the family. Whether this answers your question or not, I do hope this "clarifies" my personal and family experiences to some extent. This is the most detail I will go into in the comments. If you'd like further insight into my personal and family experiences, I suppose you will have to wait for me to finish writing that book.
