They've made too much out of that reading, it could've a number of things, my guess is it was attacked, ripped apart and a shark swallows the tag while eating, then disgorged it, sharks regularly disgorge their whole stomach to get rid of indigestible items, it looks weird, it coughs up it's whole stomach, turning it completely inside out.

OK but then there is the change in diving behaviour and a temperature increase a week before the tag surfaced? I know it is remote research and we don’t know for sure but it seems plausible
