Batman is a joke for superhero genre coz he's not super, he's just a superhero wannabe. He has no super power at all and yet he dressed up as if he has. That caped is so unnecessary coz in reality it will only hinder your movement no matter how great martial art expert he is. His reason to have a caped due to his theme to be like a bat is another huge joke in reality coz nowadays people will just thought he was wearing a cosplay for Halloween thus making much more challenging to strike fear from his appearance. What's make much harder is people begin to know that he is just a regular human with no superpowers. His iteration for being smart & genius as detective is just overated as nobody can ever conduct a crime investigation by wearing that dumb costume which will attract so much attention. His gadgets are his most fantasize gimmicks that he could ever imagine for serving as his superpower but in reality they are not practical to carry along. With so many gaps/weak points it is absolutely challenging for the creator/writer to come up with some villains that are on par with his status which are not strong but just clever on their own terms. Overall they are just a bunch psychos who think they can take on a world but actually is just a district called Gotham.... Perhaps that is the entire world they could ever live with but once stepped out of Gotham they are like ants to the eye of other super meta human... If u get what I mean.

well said but people forget this, batman was invented as a character who could glide with bat wings inspired by Leonardo da vinci's invention I believe. The scariness was invented shortly after. So the cape serves as a gliding mechanism as shown in the Burton movies and Batman Begins/ The Dark Knight and the Arkham games. Plus it's just visually cool, you realize it's part of the reason he's so recognizable as a fictional character in our world? The Shadow. The Phantom and The Green Hornet have been forgotten but characters with capes like The Phantom of the Opera and Dracula remain at least somewhat relevant. Maybe that's not a fair correlation idk. Still though I can't say you're wrong.
