Preloading at a stop or in general is not a practice taught in the “motorcycle safety course” because if a driver hits you, you can go flying off your bike or cause more damage by crashing into someone else. The msf course teaches clutch control.

Robert. I hope you read this message. I rode on Motors for 11 years. I love watching your videos because they are educational and it brings back memories. We rode Harleys ONLY. I've been riding a motorcycle all of 6 weeks. Right out the gate I keyed on on your training videos as the single best source for low-speed bike handling. I've been practicing your techniques. Not a master but a good student. Just did my first U-turn in traffic around construction cones in a ~30' wide street. Did the turn easily in less than 20 feet. Easy peasey. No stress. a few weeks ago I would've ridden up the street to circle blocks to make the turn. RESPECT. Also, your advice on the mini pre-swerves to initiate the U-turn were the thing that finally eliminated my fear-of-leaning. I'm locking the bars on turns now. Feels great. Gives me great confidence and satisfaction.

I was literally watching your videos for about 3 months before I bought my bike. I can say that the positivity and overall way you describe things inspired me to make the leap to riding and made feel like I can do it! I'm a new rider now on a 2007 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. (I heard your advice about first bike size in one of your previous videos that I doesn't matter the size of the first bike.) Last time I looked I've got 2.4 miles on the Trip Odometer. I better check the gas to make sure I don't run out 😁. I've been working on the Preload. Haven't got there just yet but I'm working on it everyday. I follow the steps, first gear, cover the rear brake, the Preload (Haven't figured out the sound so I found for now for that I have to look quickly to make sure I'm at 1700-2000 RPM before I) release the clutch, and pick the foot up once it starts to move. Thanks! I keep watching as a Subscriber and member of the channel. Keep up the great work! One day if you get to Cleveland, Ohio I can practice with you!
By the way, I’ll be in Columbus, OH for Traveling Practice Sessions on May 6 & 7. The sessions are full, but definitely feel free to come by and hang out. 👍🏾

Thank you for mentioning your bike jerks around at slow speed if you don't preload! I have my first HD and riding at 20-30km is terrible..... going to keep it preloaded! Thank you so much!
Thank you for taking time to create your motorcycle videos. I subscribed and the next time I get on my bike... I am heading for an empty parking lot to practice these PRELOAD steps you have outlined. Will view this video until I have the PRELOAD step 100% memorized and will practice, practice, practice until all this becomes second nature. I recently dropped my 900 lb. bike at a stop light. Fortunately, the bike, nor myself, was not damaged and a motorist immediately jumped out of his truck and helped me get my bike upright. I view that occurrence as a GOOD thing, because now I know what if feels like and how dangerous it can be to drop one's bike. I have since learned how to correctly stop my bike from another ex-motorcycle police trainer on a different channel and have been practicing the technique every chance I get before I get out on the hi-way. Before viewing the techniques for coming to a safe stop on my motorcycle, I was doing it completely ass-backward which is why I eventually dropped my bike at a red light... Thank you, thank you, thank you. AND... I thank myself for having enough sense to know that viewing these training videos that you professionals are providing and putting the techniques into practice is paramount.
Robert your slow speed video's have definitely given me more confidence in being the boss of my motor cycle. Practice, practice, practice. Thanks for helping me to become a better rider.✌🏽
On day 2, and i intuitively sense this... but when im on it ... just don't want to do it 😔 I need to see what rpm im actually at in idle vs friction and get used to hearing a healthy rpm. Stalled twice, once making a left from a stop and again making a right from a stop sign. Helps im just putzing around a University campus doing circles at 25 max until im confident at that (took MSF a month ago fwiw). Lots of start-stop opportunities. Lots of pedestrians, bicycles, slow moving single lane traffic. Lots of chances to practice stopping, turning, etc. Even Uturns... weather flooded out a road yesterday and didn't want to ride my new baby through that. When this environment becomes automatic, ill be able to confidently ride off campus and be focused on traffic eyes up instead of overthinking every slow speed situation.
Thank you so much ! Safety first . Stay alive and thrive . It is such a great feeling to have total control of your machine . Have an amazing day .

Such a great video!! I took the MSF course and they taught me to just use the clutch only in the friction zone, and we were on Harley's. This might be the most basic of questions, but I'm going to ask it anyways: When you say "keep it loaded" do you mean try to keep the engine speed constant as you move within the friction zone, or keep the throttle position constant? It *sounds* like you're keeping your engine speed pretty constant, but I've found this to be incredibly challenging with the touchy throttles on both my '14 Street Glide Special and my '22 Nightster. Thanks for all you do for us!

Good morning Big Rob. Is it possible that you could make a video of dealing with constant stop and go like when you are in a traffic jam that is moving a couple of feet approximately every 5 seconds. I don’t know if I explained it right but I noticed yesterday in one of those jams that myself and other riders had our feet all over the place and “skipping” even tripping . It just felt awkward. Also using front brake while executing one stop , and the next using rear.. then both. Hopefully you understand this jibberish I’m writing 😂 Thanks and Be safe out there
