We have been raising hogs for years, but always behind permanent fencing. This year we are trying out pasture rotation using PremierOne Supplies HogNet fencing. Check out what we think of this type of electric fencing.

Do you have to train pigs to this fencing first?
@bigbearhomestead
@bigbearhomestead 5 ай бұрын
It is best to train a pig with the electric fence inside a hard fence first. It will save you time and frustration. Also, this fencing is not the best for pigs. Check out our pig playlist and look for the Gallagher smart fence. It is what we use now. And we love it. There is also a video specifically on how to train the pigs to that fencing. Thanks for watching!

It all depends on the system and who you go with, we have found that over the years Gallagher has the best chargers and fencing. We have a link to them in our videos with a discount code bigbearhomestead use that code and you will get 10% off. Thanks for watching and we hope you hit the subscribe button and rang the bell so you can catch more homesteading videos.

I have about 6 acres that I want to rotate pigs through, maybe 5-10 pigs total, to start. How many, or how much, Premier 1 do you think it would take to do this? Set up 1 paddock with the pigs in it, then when it's time to move in a week or two, setup another paddock to move them into, then tear down the previous paddock. Make sense? Then just alternate/rotate throughout my 6 acres over the course of a season.

I no longer recommend this set up. I found something better. The Gallagher smart fence system. I did a review on this as well. The title of that video is this will change homesteading.

I question if their pig/poultry fencing can stand up in my squishy sand...

It all depends on how sandy it is, but you could always think outside the box and come up with a solution . Thanks for watching

We are about to get our first batch of piglets and will be setting up this exact netting on our 25 acre farm in north Georgia. Do you think 2 rolls of 100' netting will be enough for 4 pigs? Our plan is to use t-posts and insulators to run two strands of electric wire to create semi-permanent paddocks to rotate them after the pigs have cleared a 3 acre area while using the netting. Thanks in advance for responding!

I think that it would before than enough. I would suggest that you don't get the premier charger, I would get the Gallagher s 40 charger. It is by far a better charger. Also get some tent pegs so you can secure the bottom line that the pigs can't root under it.

This was two years ago. How’s the fence today?
@bigbearhomestead
@bigbearhomestead 3 жыл бұрын
The fence itself is has bro0ken in s0ome places, but I feel that is due to0 the fact that the charger died after 3 months of use. In fact we have stop using premier 1 products all together due to their lack of customer service and how badly their chargers preform. We are currently using a new fencing system, we can put cows and we are currently running pigs behind this system as well . Here is the link to the system with cows on it we will be doing one with the pigs on it in the near future. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYjboZdonZKfo6M Thanks for watching and we hope that you hit that subscribe button and rang the bell so you can be notified of future videos and live streams.

I didn't see the dog and I didn't need to that look on your face said it all... LOL... I also remember when I was a kid in the 60's my uncle put up an electric fence. Well there was a wee small space where the dogs would go under the old fence to get in the pasture and chase the sheep. Well the first day those bratty dogs went to go under that fence and the old dog's nose touched that fence and let me tell you he made such a fit he howled he barked he cussed out that fence in dog words. All awhile the younger dog stood there looking at the older dog thinking it had gone mad or something. So as the older dog laid there licking his poor nose the younger dog was heading to go under the fence will it was an instant replay of what the old dog had done. So then both of them were laying there licking their noses... LOL... Oh ya the sheep walked over to see what the noise was all about then they stood there by the fence and started baaing at the dogs I swear they were teasing those poor dogs with their sore noses... LOL... We stood there for a long time laughing at the whole thing. Those dogs never tried that again and they never bothered the sheep after that day ether... LOL... What I would have giving to of had video back when I was a kid in the late 50's and early 60's. I tell my grandkids these stories and they think I'm just a old funny story teller... I told them that I ain't tall enough to be telling any tall tales which means I ain't lying the stories are true.... LOL... It's my daughter-n-law that don't believe them that why the kids don't... But no matter it make them laugh and sit still for 10 minutes... LOL.. That was a great ending to y'all video thanks for sharing it. It sure brought back a long ago memory... Be blessed... BBE..

The stakes look much more stable on that netting than the double stake I have from PremierOne. Ive seen that new ground mechanism before and always wondering how it would compare to the standard ground rod.

Thanks for the review! Do you think this type of fence would work on un-even terrain with slight elevation? Or is the single wires system more appropriate?
@bigbearhomestead
@bigbearhomestead 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest as time went bye, this system started to fail and we have moved on to a new system that works so much better. ( So Far) We will be doing a review on this system in two weeks. We have been using this system for almost a year and so far it works great for pigs and cows. Even and uneven ground. I would not buy the Premier 1 system it is not worth the money due to the fails at about 6 months of use.
