Crystal I’m glad you did do the review. Mostly because you aren’t affiliated with any of the companies and will give an honest review. To many crochet you tubers are affiliated and won’t give honest reviews for fear of losing that affiliation. Your honest and quite correct comparison saved quite a few of us some money. And that’s a big deal in my world. So again thank you for doing it and being so honest. That’s why you will always be my favorite. ❤

@@cintiapollock2486 Red Heart (particularly the Ombre) has pilled pretty bad for me, I refuse to use it for gifting for this reason. I have pictures I wish could post here. How do you wash? Maybe it's because I machine wash blankets/afghans. Any tips for keeping it long-lasting without a lot of pilling after the first or second machine wash?. I can't hand wash large afghans/ blankets. Open to advice in case I'm doing something wrong.

@@kysshawiersema1426 Thank you! I'll try the gentle wash cycle and air dry setting with some swatches (about 6 x 6 in size) and see what happens. I've been regularly using one of those de-piller gadgets on my blanket I made with Red Heart Ombre and the one made with Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! Extra note for blanket makers looking for additional options. Have had the best luck so far (no de-pilling required after multiple regular machine washing and drying) with blankets made with value yarns Vanna's Choice and Hobby Lobby's Crafter's Secret (worsted weight).

I ordered the Glow Worm lol. I love the colors Red Heart has and totally agree that these are basically the same thing. I just never enjoyed working with really any Red Heart yarn. The stiffness is what gets me. In this case, the Red Heart I agree, is a way better deal for sure. My opinion, I’ll stick to Premier. Still love the colors and price of Red Heart though.

I’ve noticed that the colors determine the softness of RHSS. The standard colors of RH, which we all know are endless, are almost like sand paper, where as Premier is always soft and enjoyable to work with. Now the RHSS Ombré colors are surprisingly soft and squishie! But again, the colors are more muted which is what I believe makes them so soft. My first blanket I made was back in 1994 with Red Heart and even after at least 100 washing’s over the years, that sucker could still take the hair off your arms. The color matches are hysterical though!!

All last week I kept asking the youtubers who were doing Premier Sweet Roll reviews why they didn't mention the similarities. But then I noticed, they were all affiliated with Premier. The only one who responded at all was Glenda from Creative Grandma and she said she hadn't noticed because she hasn't used Red Heart yarns in a while but that when she gets time (she is busy moving) she would consider doing a side by side comparison. I would love to see her do those swatch reviews with both!

Crystal, thank you so much for this comparison video! You should do more like this! The cost of everyday living as well as all things leisure or hobby related is going up due to inflation. Everyone has a different budget, some can still afford to spend money while others may not have anything left after bills and children are taken care of. I like and use a wide variety of yarn from top quality name brands to low quality value brands. No matter what yarn someone uses, they can still make beautiful creations! I was in a bad place 6 years ago when I lost my daddy, my best friend. I battled with grief for about a year. Then one day I was scrolling through facebook videos and came across a 15-20 second crochet video. That short video intrigued me, I wondered if I could learn to crochet. That is when my life changed! I started watching videos on KZbin, making blankets, learning about hook size, yarn weight, yarn fibers, advancing my skills and creating a larger variety of items from beanies, scarves, gloves, costumes, teddy bears, cancer awareness bears, dolls, veteran blankets, hoodies, gift bags and the list goes on. I found tranquility and peace in crochet. I overcame the grief and found a hobby, a passion that was completely unexpected. Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to explain my view. I do have favorite brands that I like to work with, but I also love a good bargain. Especially when one company makes a yarn that is labeled and marketed by several vendors. For me, it's not how much I pay for the yarn or the name, it's the peace and quality of my work! Thank you Crystal, for your love and passion in everything you do and share with the world!

Great that you found the crochet/fiber community on KZbin……I also found BOD as my first KZbin crochet video….I never knew you could learn to crochet on KZbin! I started following crochet videos when the Covid pandemic started & I have learned so much but also that crocheting is calming, it puts me into a no drama zone I have stopped going into Facebook every day and got that drama out of my life. I avoid other peoples drama & you are so right about this craft & community having a healing effect. God Bless you & may you continue to find solace in the yarn community, 💖💖💖

Thank you. I was wondering what you thought. The color palettes are very similar. I like both and have experience with both. However, Premier tends to be nicer to work with, better feel in the hands when crocheting large objects such as blankets/ afghans. Feel is very important for larger objects. I think Red Heart Stripes looks (even here on camera-kinda shimmery at certain angles) and feels more plastic-y than Premier. Red Heart does soften after machine washing, but it pills up more than Premier. My Walmart selection is not great for blanket and afghan quantities of yarn. I wish they'd do better with that. But I know all Walmart yarn sections aren't created equal. LOL
