Matias vs Ananyan FULL FIGHT: January 22, 2022 | PBC on Showtime

Super lightweight contender Subriel Matias (18-1, 18 KOs) scored a ninth-round TKO over Petros Ananyan (16-3-2, 7 KOs) after dropping Ananyan at the end of the round, prompting the referee to stop the fight at the suggestion of the ringside doctor between rounds.
The bout was a rematch of their 2020 bout that Ananyan won by decision, Matias was able to earn revenge for his only career defeat and put himself on the path toward a world title shot. The bout was contested on the inside throughout, with Matias targeting the body early and often, while Ananyan had success with chopping shots to the head.
“This is the fight that I wanted,” said Matias, who was jubilant in victory following the fast-paced affair. “Ever since my defeat to him, I wanted to avenge the loss. When you’re sure about yourself and you know that you have the skills that you have, you take the rematch.”
Matias was able to rack up a 252 to 164 advantage in punches landed throughout the fight, including a 59-12 edge in body punches. Ananyan was more active than Matias by a 761-678 margin but Matias’ 37% connect rate out-paced Ananyan’s 21%.
Matias’ body attack backfired temporarily in round seven, as referee Mary Glover deducted a point from Matias early in the round. Matias continued to attack the body however, and both fighters continued to have strong moments through the end of the fight.
In the final seconds of round nine, Matias landed the decisive blow via a counter left hook that immediately badly hurt Ananyan and sent him to the canvas. Ananyan was able to get to his feet and was saved by the bell ringing shortly after. However, in between rounds the ringside doctor deemed that Ananyan could no longer continue and the bout was officially ruled a TKO after nine rounds.
“I’m not just a hard-hitter but the way that I fight is like cutting down a tree,” said Matias. “Just keep hitting them. I think I can improve my power but let’s see what happens with time. I want to thank everybody who made this fight possible, but I’m going to take my time before deciding who I will fight next.”

There is an interview with Matías in Spanish. Matías said that the death of the deceased did not hurt him at the time of the fight, only months before. He said the reason was because he didn't train much and smoked more than 10 dope cigarettes a day (marihuana). After the defeat, Matías gave up marihuana permanently. Today he has spoken several times against marihuana

Am spanish and he said it on a interview he was smoking weed and trying not to admit that he was not ok in the head didnt even train right. He's trainer didnt want to force him to fight and keep telling him to take more time but matias didnt want to accept it and went to fight. But he also said it was a great leasson for him and that it motivate him to train the harder and got dedicated from there on. He even admited that he was mot dedicated compleately ever before and look at the diffrence now Dude is a legit nightmare for anyone.

Ref took a point for from Matias for punching low, but never took a point from Ananyan for constant pushing and shoving with his forearm and hands---even after ref told him to stop pushing earlier in the rounds.

True and but it backed fired on him. Because he’s draining himself. Especially since he was a little bit smaller. He was thirsting for that hook. Despite him missing a lot or blocked. Maybe he thought a connect would slow Matias aggression. He didn’t notice how Matias shrugged off the rare ones that landed. Offensively Matias was constantly on balance. And unlike the other guy Matias was actively finding holes in the guard. Zepeda was just punching to punch. He didn’t necessarily know how to sneak punches through. And his wide loopy hook spamming didn’t help much. You can tell Matias was taking him to deep waters. Could of hit Zepeda harder in the 1st half of the hit. He was mixing his power to keep Zepeda honest. Once he noticed Zepeda finally slowing downing after the sumo wrestling and throwing the kitchen sink. He began putting extra omf in his shots.

Matias he is a very intelligent and dangerous beast, he analyzes all his fights when he receives blows to the jaw, he assimilates it in an incredible way and creates the sensation to the opponent that he is hurting Matias, and in reality they waste time exhausting his energy since Matias What he wants is that, stand up straight and hit us hard to the limit, whoever received the most, Matias reminds me of the Boxer Valero who did not like to run and only wanted punches, these boxers of today with many titles only run, and that It's boring in the Boxing event, I think we will see Matias putting all the 140 pound champions running, it's time for boxing to have real fun, Matias is very good and I pay for any pay per view event just to see him box. Matias has always reminded me of an older guy named Kassim Ouma. He's heavier handed than Ouma was, but when they both get going, they just throw TONS of punches and hit anything they can; and you'll end up looking at their opponent just a few rounds in and they look like they've just fought 20! Must just be hell to fight a guy like that.

This is even more impressive considering that Ananyan is very game and looks much bigger than Matias. Matias should definitely be in the mix with the top fighters at 135 - 140. His shots almost come off like arm punches, even so he's heavy handed and is willing to mix it up. I don't see someone like Davis jumping in the ring with Matias, because unlike Garcia, Matias is more of a trenches guy and has a decent inside game. Matias has got more power in him in that he's literally not getting his legs into a lot of his punches, yet he still has quite a bit of pop. Things are shaping up nicely at this weight range, and as long as you're not biased by promoters and social media, it's not hard throwing Matias in the mix and seeing that he's got a shot at guys like Taylor, Haney, Loma, Davis, Prograis, Garcia, and Ramirez.

Esta referí le falta experiencia, fallo en cosa básicas. 1) Ananyan estaba entrando siempre con la cabeza y nunca le llamó la atención. 2) Se mantuvo empujando con las manos a Subriel, puedes empujar pero con el cuerpo no utilizando las manos para empujar al oponente. 3) Luego de caer y hacerle el conteo de protección debió de parar la pelea pues se notaba que Petros estaba en muy mal estado físico.... Cuando Petros llega a su esquina lo tuvieron que agarrar para que se sentara. Si no fuese por la doctora pudo ocurrir otra desgracia porque la esquina no tenía la intención de parar la pelea.
