Premiere Pro GDI Out of Memory and Encoder Error Retrieving Frame Issue Solved

Ok, so I am extremely tired while making this quick video. So I do apologize for my tired eyes. But, I think this video will help someone. I have gone through all the hoops for you. I was getting a premiere pro alert that I was out of memory and encoder could not make a proxy for me. I changed all my preferences in premiere pro. I deleted everything off my SD card. I gave 6 gigs of Ram to premiere pro. And I still was getting the same message. I thought maybe the file was corrupted? Nope it’s all there. My issue was that premiere pro was having a hard time working with encoder to turn my 4k fine footage that is 45 minutes long, into a single proxy for editing. My solution as I tested out theory, proved correct. Make the footage a lot shorter while in camera. Premiere pro can handle all the 10 min 4k footage I throw at it, but 45 minutes seems to be issue. I’ve never had an issue, until this weekend, while making an awesome video to be filled with such disappointment. If it all is working before hand, then this might be your issue. Instead of jumping through crazy hoops and messing up your entire workflow like I did, maybe just make shorter 4k clips and see if that helps first. If you have no issues then, then problem solved. Hope this helps someone out.

I get this error every time I transcode and make proxies, wether its a 10 minute video or 1hr long video. However, it doesn't change the outcome of the finished transcode or the proxy. They work just fine but this error does continue to come up every time I do this.

I totally hear you. I was about to make an updated video. If you are using any Sandisk SSD drive, it will screw everything up. I started just putting all my videos onto my hard drive, then making the video, and then clearing it off my hard drive after I know I have a finished copy. I used to always just edit off my SD drives, but since the Sandisk Extreme SSD's came out, they are all crap. They lose files and they have an issue with working with the premiere software. Seems fine at first and all of a sudden your workflow gets f*cked, so I have since narrowed it down to the SSD. I haven't had an issue since loading all footage onto my desktop first and then making the proxies onto my hard drive. I am currently going to figure out which SD is the best for video and audio production, so that I can continue the workflow that I'm used to since my desktop only has so much storage

Hi Matt, Did you keep testing to see if, what you found, works? I never had this problem, not even this morning, and now it's throwing the same error you described. Ow, and the little icon on the screen is the proxy watermark; just a little heads-up for you so you know you're viewing the proxy variant of the clip.

I finally got down to the bottom of it. My real issue is that for some terrible reason, Premiere Pro is really having trouble creating proxies and a proxy folder when the original files are on an External SSD or other hard-drive. SO, only solution at this point to negate any workflow issues is to just upload all your footage onto your C: drive and then just work off of that. My workflow is back to normal when I do this. I have no idea why, Premiere pro, can't make it more streamlined as it should just quickly identify what I am doing and even when I manually put in the path, it still manages to mess it up. For now I'm working off the C: and just making sure I have the space.

Well, I'm glad somebody is on the exact same page as I am. I did everything as intended and recommended by the internet, and none of that worked. I tried to change the proxy directory to C: but that didn't worked either :(. I might reduce the footage to 4k with another encoder, maybe I'll use Handbrake, but man is it been frustrating, and I have like 3 videos in line to edit at this moment.
