Great tips! I have one question you mention about Alt+M at both 0:59 and 1:14. When I try it, it only does what it does for you at 1:14 but not what it should do in 0:59, and I think that feature is actually really good to directly be able to create a marker and change it's color/note/length

Is there a way to link markers to certain clips, so when I delete a gap between clips, the marker will also move with it? So far I just created text with my notes laid on top of the video on the timeline, it moves with the clip if I mess around with the timeline

Hi, never got shift+M to stop at the end of a marker (3:15). The short key (shift+M and shift+ctrl+M) only moves forward og backwards to the beginning of a marker. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Great Video! I have more tips. Hit/tap M twice on the same time spot and watch what happens. 👍😊 Second remap the CTRL key with the left and right arrows for very fast Marker navigation combined with the up/down arrows. Last tip is that any of the time indicators allows for quick jumps or in the Marker setting the duration by typing 100 for 1 second or 1200 for 12 secs etc.

You select the clip and use “M:” to place a marker on the clip itself.

This is good, BUT if you make markers in the timeline and then cut the clip, the marker is in the wrong place. The marker doesn't get cut so it spans the wrong section of the timeline. I want to know how to mark in the clip editor and have that reflected on the timeline. I have looked it up before and now I've forgotten!! Ha ha I see I commented 2 years ago which tells me where to look to solve this. I'm a bit sporadic with my editing 😂 Thank you so much.

If you do chapter markers like this and move clips around or delete clips, the markers will stay as is. But after picture lock these are great commenting tools for color and sound editors

So appreciate this video - but I'm not having luck with a lot of these things working in mac. the alt (option) m doesn't bring up a menu and the marker keeps going onto the track rather than on the top of the timeline where the playhead sits. I'm a bit baffled.

Check the preferences for the keyboard equivalents. Everyghing is in there - and it's a LOT. Start by setting ONE (or a couple) until it makes sense.

Hi, as you probably already know, it's easier to mark the audio and hit the beats on Premiere compared to After Effects. Is there a way to mark the audio on Premiere and import the marked audio to After Effects?

Yes marking audio in after effects it’s not as precise as Premier Pro. I haven’t tried it but I bet if you round trip to the audio to after affects it would still see the markers. I do know that if you edit and Mark an audition both after affects in premiere Pro will see those markers.

@@BasicFilmmaker You can actually copy and paste between AE and Premiere now too. But the marker May not be all that useful to you in AE anyway because the time codes are different. You can have the same precision in AE also for audio markers, but you have to change your whole composition timing. Rather than 24fps, you need to use the audio precision. If you're just lining up your audio, You should do it in premiere first, then merge the footage. You can copy and paste that into AE and the audio stays merged as a single source footage. If you're hoping to have the marker do something then it makes sense that it has to be on an even frame. You have a bad time when you try and have things happen between frames. And using a frame rate of something like 4800 is Very computationally heavy.

Shift-M skips the end, goes directly to the next marker beginning. Well, it is many versions later. Also looking to make a span marker, then make it a subclip and throw it in a new sequence. Have you been having issues with Premiere Pro CC 2017.3? I'm constantly getting crashes, audio sync issues when exporting, and much more! I have no idea why!

I have not. You can try clearing your prefs as follows: Press Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while launching Premiere Pro. You can release the Alt key or Option key when the splash screen appears. To reset preferences AND plug-in cache at the same time, hold down Shift-Alt (Windows) or Shift-Option (Mac OS) while the application is starting. This has cleared up many an issue for me in the past.

You don't have to opt/alt click only in the Preview window to split a marker to span. You can do it in the timeline and save mouse movement. And color markers with a keyboard shortcut

I am so glad I found this but I am having two issues. The first is that the markers are not showing in the preview window. I did click on the wrench and select show markers. Not sure what else to do. The other is that the markers aren't placed above the timeline as they are in your tutorial. Instead they are on the timeline and appear in the video and audio line. Does this matter?

Wow! That’s bizarre! It might be this. If you select a clip, and add a marker, it will add the marker to the audio or video clip. If you don’t have a clip selected and add a marker, it will add it to the timeline. BTW, I love your channel name. Perfectly describes you and your channel. 👍

Check you keyboard shortcut preferences and make sure they are set correctly. Sometimes we accidentally nuke those or Adobe changes them. Can always set them as you like.

@@BasicFilmmaker same here. Hot keys will take me to beginning of next or previous marker. No hot key can be added to go to end of spanned marker. Keyboard editor has no such option. Even if I reset default hot keys this is the behavior.. What I saw in your video would be a great timesaver since premiere has not yet as far as I know a set in to out points from a spanned marker, like resolve, avid and fcp have.

Brilliant ma Man The Music perfect as well But still a Question on my Mind Sir. So i want to make markers in a certain amount of time from each others. Multiple Markers with lets say for example 5 Sec. That it creates automatically those 5 seconds? I want to cut a Vid into a style where the Vid changes with the Beat but that scene Gotta accure in every video in a timespann of 1,72 Seconds. Edo Nissenbaum Not that I know of. I checked the keyboard equivalents and I couldn’t find any setting that would match. The shuttle left, right, slow left, slow right, stop, is an application wide setting. So it seems like it should do exactly what you are saying. Maybe drop a quick note to Adobe support and let them know it doesn’t work in this panel. 👍

I press `M` and the menu opens. I write a title and select a duration but the marker does not show on timeline. Why?

That’s odd. If I double tap M I get the menu, or, if there’s already a marker there and I press M it opens up the window. I have no idea why the markers don’t show up. Make sure a clip is NOT selected in the timeline. If a clip is selected, your placing a marker on that clip. If NO clip is selected, you’re placing it on the timeline.

This is great. But I'm a beginner and my markers keep dropping down into the audio. I can't see what I need to click on to make them appear at the top of the timeline. I keep clicking in the time line and pressing M but they drop down.

What’s happening is PPRo is auto selecting the audio (or video) track. Make sure that the auto selection is off (I think it’s under the sequence menu). Also, if you click off the track indicator on the left that should work too. When you click in the timeline, there should be no audio or video footage selected, then you can “M” away. Hope that made sense.

i wonder if you could help me. i tried using markers in the middle of a project and accidentally clicked on the 'Show Markers' checkmark when you right-click the Preview window. And now the markers don't show up there at all (it still shows up on the timeline). I'm trying to bring them back up on the Preview window but I just cant find how to (I've tried right-clicking all over the place and the option doesnt show up anywhere, checked Window > Markers drop down and nothing in there, tried resetting workspace but markers still don't show up). I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2019 and have been searching google for answers but no one seems to have had the same problem. I'm still a newbie with the app lol

How do you move markers with the video clip if you need to reposition it? edit: When I move the video clip, the markers stay where they are on the timeline. I need to lock them to the video, not the timeline.

Have you tried multiple selections? Clip plus markers?

Yes. Check out preferebces. You can set the defaults for just about everything,

how come you cant add markers and see them on the timeline in the source window like you can for the program window?

The source window is just that - you're dealing with source footage, in a program that doesn't touch your footage (they would have to put the markers into your footage, then it would no longer be an NLE - non destructive editor). The source window is so you can scrub and find in and out points to drag into the timeline, and at that point you're ediiting, and the program window is showing what you've edited.
