Abundant Art celebrates the the re-opening of bookshops across the UK with Independent Bookshop Week IBW (19-26 June 2021) and The Booksellers Association (BA) sponsored by Hatchett UK.
IBW invites everyone to support their local indie in any way they can, whether shopping in person, on the bookshop’s own website, on Bookshop.org, or joining a virtual event. The week aims to celebrate the resilience and creativity demonstrated by independent booksellers over the past year, in the face of the multiple challenges posed by the pandemic.
From virtual events taking place up and down the country, to window displays featuring spectacular book sculptures, and from early releases and signed stock to hundreds of National Book Tokens as part of National Book Tokens’ High Five for Bookshops initiative, Independent Bookshop Weeks will have something for everyone.
About Independent Bookshop Week (IBW)
Independent Bookshop Week (IBW) was launched in 2006 and is part of the Books Are My Bag campaign. It is a celebration of independent bookshops nationwide, and the role ‘indies’ play in their communities. At the end of 2020, the number of independent bookshops in BA membership grew to 967 shops, up from 890 shops in 2019. Independent Bookshop Week is sponsored by Hachette UK.
About the Indie Book Awards-⦁ Winners will be announced on Scala Radio on Friday 25th June
Formerly known as the Independent Bookshop Week Book Awards, the Indie Book Awards are voted for by independent bookshops and judged by a panel of authors, booksellers and journalists.
The awards honour the paperback books of the year across four categories - Fiction, Non-Fiction, Children’s Fiction and Picture Book - as voted for by independent booksellers. Celebrating the best reads for the summer and the books that readers should be taking on holiday (or on their staycations) this summer, the awards are a part of the annual campaign celebrating indie bookshops in the UK and Ireland organised by the Booksellers Association.
