I discovered Mrs. Browns Boys after Brendan O’Carroll co-starred with Tyler Perry in one of his movies here in the USA 🇺🇸 and instantly fell in love with the Mrs. Agnes Brown character! So I subscribed to BritBox so that I could watch the entire series. My favorite character(s) are…Mrs. Brown (Brendan O’Carroll), Buster Brady (Danny O’Carroll…I like the character of Buster because I think that Danny is EXTREMELY sexy (I couldn’t resist!!)) and of course Bono Brown (Jaime O’Carroll….who was adorable 🥰 when he was younger and seems to be growing into a heartbreaker). These are my favorite characters, but I absolutely ADORE 🥰 and LOVE 💕 all of the characters and the series itself. I have fell so much in love with the series that I’ve probably watched every episode of the 2011 show now at least 3 dozen times?!? Please Brendan, continue to make new episodes for us to enjoy…the show is amazing and sadly we don’t have anything like it here in the USA 🇺🇸, so I’m glad that BBC Worldwide and ITV PLC created BritBox so that those of us here in the Colonies can enjoy wholesome entertainment from across the Pond!! These people who say that the show 'used to be good' baffle me, there is literally no difference in the standard of writing or acting, both were abysmal from series 1. Try watching the feature length dvd versions O'Carroll produced prior to the BBC series, it beggars belief how excrutiatingly poor they are. Then have a look at some O'Carroll stand up, utterly dreadful. If you think this show is funny then there's something wrong. The writing, if you can call a succession of tired jokes, f words & farts strung together writing, is without wit, intelligence or originality. The central character is a crude rip off of Old Mother Riley, the format a blatant & crude copy of Carla Lane's 'Bread', the brothers in fancy dress are a copy of Spike & Ted from 'Hi De Hi', the grandad ( who ought to be over 100 years old if Agnes Brown is in her 70s ) is again a copy from 'Bread' & the armchair bound priest in 'Father Ted', etc. The stories are usually non existent & often incoherent, such as the one about the woman who poisoned her husband which is so atrociously conceived that it defies belief. The acting, with the exception of Winnie & Buster who are acceptable, is often woeful, the worst offender being the Brit who plays Prof Clowne who is comfortably the worst actor I've ever seen on tv. The obviously faked bloopers & deliberate breaking of the forth wall are painful & betray a complete lack of understanding of how comedy works. The whole enterprise is a vanity project for Brendan O'Carroll, who arrogantly believes that his completely unlikeable & meanspirited 'Irish Mammy' character, which is nothing more than a gurning pantomime dame, is a work of genius & his stolen jokes, 90% of which will be familiar to anyone over 50 constitute a 'script'. Inept & arbitrary attempts at slapstick & cringemaking sentimentality fill out this mindbogglingly awful mess which is undoubtedly the most inept tv show ever broadcast on a maistream tv channel. Galton & Simpson, La Frenais & Clement, Vince Powell, Perry & Croft, Croft & Lloyd, Johnny Speight, Chesney & Wolfe, Cooke & Mortimer, David Nobbs all great writers of situation comedy for British tv & the abundance of great comedy performers Britain has produced are turning in their graves at the popularity of this utter dreck. It's telling how popular MBB is in the US & other countries where the standard of comedy is painfully low. At least 'Are You Being Served?', which found a huge audience in the US, was consistently well written & performed. Why are US audiences not singing the praises of 'Dad's Army', 'On The Buses', 'Nearest And Dearest', 'George And Mildred', 'Some Mothers Do Ave Em', 'Hi De Hi', etc.? Comparing 'Dad's Army', a brilliantly written & performed masterpiece with MBB is like comparing cream to excrement.
